Cost of test: $59.75 (discounted to $50.75). Cost of certificate: $8.25. Transfer fee: $1.75. Sales tax: $0.75. Total: $60.75. You get an inspection report for your records, plus the invoice. "I dropped off my vehicle and was told it would be several hours and I was fine with that. I was not able to pick the vehicle up until Sunday morning. When I picked up my vehicle I" had to ask if my vehicle passed. It did. When I went to get my vehicle I noticed the out-of-state registration sticker was removed. I told the CS person about it and he had to go ask the inspector. The inspector advised me that VA law stated that only one sticker could be on the car. I called the inspector and the CS person on that and left. A
to both the VA State Police page and the VA legal code page clearly state the first thing an inspector is to do is to remove other inspection stickers but not registration stickers. The CS person apologized and admitted the registration sticker should not have been removed and I have followed up with higher echelons to seek reimbursement for the expected fees to replace my registration sticker. Several points emerge: 1. The lack of knowledge about the actual inspection procedure. 2. The carelessness, at best, for failing to read what both stickers on a car were (one TX registration, one TX safety inspection). 3. The willingness to tell a customer the wrong, or believed right, information. 4. The trust in the inspection program's decision to award the inspector the right to inspect. At this point I am waiting to hear from the corporate office.

"Just echoing what everyone else states.
is the best and worth driving a little farther. I called around and he was the cheapest I found. There is no doubt I" could not have gotten better service. Pulled in at a good time (no one else in line) and literally drove off with the
test complete in five minutes.
is genuinely nice and provides good service. A handshake when you arrive and a handshake when you leave. Nice to have companies like this in our area.

Car Inspecting reviews in Harlan

Towed auto in, did not tell mechanic what was wrong. Mechanic replaced oil pump and seals, Mechanic started auto to get it from parked position to location for repair, stated they had test drove the car after replacing oil pump and seals. Upon leaving with auto, check gas cap light came on and sounded like a helicopter. Returned to G&H and they realized the it had a hose to the intake valve was not hooked up and hooked it up. Thought that would have been detected when test driving. Car still made horrible sound and took it to the dealership and was told the car had been run without oil and the

shaft and lifters were destroyed and would have to be replaced. Dealer said this should have been detected when oil pump was replaced. Now we are without the use of the car and it is going to cost us another approximate $3100.
Normally we have always had G&H do the work on our vehicles, oil change, state inspection, tune ups, light replacements, etc. We have usually had good service and I a timely manner. For some reason, this time it was as if the left hand did not know what the right hand had done. The mechanic stated he was not told what was wrong with the car only that it was towed in. I have lost faith in one of the people that work there and do not trust him anymore.

The inspector was prompt and unbelievably knowledgeable. Really helped me with my purchase decision as I was considering replacing the transmission on a 1998 Monterro. He called once the inspection was complete and gave my husband a full run through of the car and followed by sending the report later in the day. Awesome family business!

has earned a new customer in me...here's the story...
Auto shops get a bad rap because some of them are run by crooks, period. I was unlucky once to run into such a place. I went there for an AC charge, got talked into struts...was promised OEM stuff (not what I got)...and one lie

to another...almost sued them.

has renewed my faith in independent shops.
My car is a 2001 Toyota Avalon that I treat like gold. When it needed a timing belt and a new axle, I brought it to

. Got sick of traveling to Precision Toyota in Tucson. After the initial belt replacement, the "check engine" light remained on. And the car had some major pulling issues after the axle replacement. I thought to myself, "Here we go again with independent mechanics..."
Well, I came in and got to know

...who gave me a free rental for a couple days over the weekend in case there were any safety issues (Initial work was on 7/18/14, completed 7/21/14). The following Monday, I talked with

Then they showed the "old school magic".
Harlan Motor Vehicle Inspection Provider Name Locked
found out the reason the check engine light was coming on. The belt they had put in had a slightly different calibration from the original Toyota belt...at least for my model and year. So, they got the authentic one and reinstalled it. Problem solved!!
The pulling issue remained...and there were some weird noises too. All of this got worse AFTER he put in a new axle. This really peaked my skepticism. It turned out to be pure coincidence. After some clever thinking by

The crook that did my struts years ago? He supposedly replaced those, but he didn't. No problem,

put in new ones, replacing both the strut mounts in the front. All the noise and pulling?? COMPLETELY GONE!!!
My Avalon is back to the way it used to be. They found a problem that had been bugging me for years...getting progressively worse...and the Toyota dealers had no clue!!!
You can guess where I bring my car from now on....
