"Superior Contract Services was prompt and professional. They addressed all my questions and gave me feedback on what repairs were necessary to keep my home protected." I had storm damage to my home and the repairs they performed on my roof, siding and gutters have prevented any more leaking. It also looks great. Thank you!

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.

I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

I found an earlier review on
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
on Angie's List in which the reviewer mentioned half-round gutters. Because
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
is located close to our own home, I called
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
. We were not confident that the half-round gutters installed on our house by another company were performing as they should.
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was kind enough to come out and take a look. He was most professional in his evaluation and reassured us that the gutters looked fine, and were properly installed. His manner and professionalism would lead us to use his services in the future

I had a contractor friend build a 200 square foot patio cover attached to my house and sun room.Great job on the patio cover, but unfortunately for me, he was no roofer. After about 5 years,I was getting a lot of leaking from the transition points between house, sun room, and patio cover.I called
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and the owner Bill came out promptly to give me an estimate. As I recall,he very generously gave my friend(who built the patio cover) credit for " building a good roof for a shed" .Even though Bill was leaving that day for vacation,He emailed an estimate that night. When I called with questions he called me back DURING his vacation! The man works too much. Bill displayed a great sense of humor, and a willingness to explain in detail to the uneducated the whys and hows of the project. The estimate was for removal of the old roofing material down to the wood and haul away.Replace any damaged material (turned out to be three plywood sheet worth@about 182$ including labor). They installed proper flashing at all transition points ,used asphalt primer , and torched a base
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and mineral surface sheet over the wood base.My apologies if that doesn't correctly describe the scope of work or order of steps. My point being there will be no leaking anymore,I am confident of that!! I only wish I knew the minimum of roofing I now possess at the time my patio was built. Two men showed up around 7 am to do the job.I was expecting twice that amount for the work they did.I don't know how they accomplished everything by 5 pm and did such a good job cleaning up the work site with only two people.
I could not be more satisfied with
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
than I am after this completed job.I intend to use them to re-roof my house later this year.

We had to wait a while for the job to be done, but this was not the roofers fault, but was weather related. The price was fair and the quality of the work was very good. I would hire them again if additional work was necessary.

They did excellent work, and their bid was lower than anyone.
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
took the time to hear what we wanted and what we could afford and came through with some very reasonable pricing. He and his crew went above and beyond in all areas: answering questions, finding ways to save money, and performing great work. I was very impressed by the professionalism and great customer service. The roof and the addition look great. I've now referred him to two other people that needed roofing done, and they loved his work as well. Excellent integrity and character - I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I have to say the whole experience was effortless. My husband and I needed to update the exterior of our home. We also wanted to improve our homes energy efficiency. Our friend recommended them to us and we looked at their website. www.mmbuilds.com . They had a great deal of before and after pictures and a lot .of great reviews. So we decided to have them out to our home for an estimate. The project manager arrived on time in a uniform. His vehicle was newer and he was clean cut which my husband liked because he was in the
Decorah Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
when he was younger. The windows took about three weeks to come in and M&M Construction Specialist pulled permits during that time, I guess for the siding and the roof. The day after the windows came in they scheduled the work to begin. The roof was done first and then the windows and siding. We chose insulated siding and energy star windows. We also picked Gaf roofing. They gave us a lifetime warranty 50 years on our roof and also a lifetime warranty on our siding! We really liked our project manager and that was the biggest plus for this company because they only have project managers NOT salesmen. The same guy who sold us our home improvements came and ran all the work. He was there from beginning to end. The house looks beautiful!! The communication throughout the project was seamless. The craftsmanship was excellent and my husband is picky! They did a great job cleaning up and making sure we were happy. We would recommend them to anyone looking to do a home improvement project.
