, the owner seemed like a nice guy and I was impressed that he did not try to up-sell me as did some of the other contractors. My experience" follows: The crew failed to show up on the first 2 promise dates. I took off of work on both dates. I had to call Action about the crew not showing up. No call to me. On the 3rd promise date the crew showed up and replaced / tightened gutters but did not replace the rakeboard. When I spoke with Action 1 week later, I was told that the crew did not have the right size rakeboard for the job. After a couple of week of no contact, I called and the work was scheduled. Again, we had at least one no show. When the work was completed it was sloppy. Specifically, red and white stickers were left on the rakeboard (not sure why they could not be removed before installing them at the roof line). The corners where the rakeboard meets on the front and back of the house has gaps and the crew did not bother to slap paint on the exposed cuts (looks bad). The crew left a DIRECT TV cable hanging in front of the siding on the back of my house. I picked up 37 nails from the side of my house and backyard. I paid Action and communicated my dissatisfaction. The owner apologized and said he would get it fixed. Two weeks later... nothing.

Two notes #1 20 feet is going to cost you more per foot that 100 feet.  #2 All prices are relative to Your market ie Omaha is less expensive than St Lious.  Here expect to pay on the 100 foot job $5 to $6 per foot of gutter (5" aluminum) plus the $4 to $5 a foot for the downspouts and $15 to $20 for soffit and facsia covering ie vinyl soffit panels and painted or vinyl clad aluminum covering the fascia.  In the trade a soffit & fascia job.

Unless you are constructing a French Drain (dry well filled with rock or debris and no exit) style system you use a non perforated system.  Cut the plastic flush on the angle where it daylights if the slope is great enough,  If you need it river rock can be used to construct a dry riverbed type drainage ditch out from the daylighted drain.

Short answer: It's up to you. Many home remodeling contractors, including exterior remodelers, don't expect a tip since they've already provided a set price within the contract, but if you really feel that they've gone above and beyond, you may feel obliged to tip them. Angie herself answered a very simliar question in a recent column: Should I tip my remodeling contractor?

Not knowing what type of eaves (the lower edge of the roof) you had before the new soffits were intalled I have to guess what might have happened. If you had closed eves (no soffits, just rafter tails with blocking between) before as was done on some older homes it is possible they removed or drilled holes through to the attic. When this was done there should have been a baffle installed to direct the air flow up and over the insulation. This would only be possible for the soffit installer to do if the wood blocking was removed and not just had holes drilled in it. If the insulation contractor did not go all the way to the exterior wall that could very well be the cause or it he did not make sure the insulation was pushed down to make contact with the ceiling material. If the house was never cold before I would bet the problem is at the eaves. You should call the insulation company for an answer.

The ice build-up in the gutter should not, provided they are properly attached and solid, rip out the gutter.

When you get snow slides and large chunks of frozen precip that let go and slide down the roof with velocity, those are what tear off the gutters and create damage.

If you are concerned about the snow load, a snow rake and/or a proper roofer can remove some of the accumulated snow.

Some ice damming is unavoidable in the correct conditions but I would urge you to look into proper ventilation of the roof and air sealing and insulation.  This will reduce your home's inclination to form these ice dams in the future.

Made contact with

All went well. Cleanup was superb. Installation was fine with one minor issue that was immediately taken care of by

showed up promptly as scheduled on Monday morning and got right to work. Unfortunately, we had a problem with yellow jacket nests, which prevented them from proceeding (sorry for the stings!). It was decided that the installation had to be postponed. I immediately called in a wasp removal company, had the property sprayed the next day, and Alloy was rescheduled. Friday morning Alloy's crew called to let me know they were on the way; installation took about 3-1/2 hours of non-stop work. Alloy got us on scheduled & even rescheduled quickly, showed up promptly, and did a great job! We're still awaiting a good hard rain to watch our new gutters at work!
- Mark O.

The work crew was on-time and was very knowledgable about the gutters as well as the wood shingle roof. The job was complete in one day with no issues. I would highly recommend this company for their professionalism as well as their attitude toward service. The owner is very helpful and I would use them again in a heartbeat.

Great company to work with.
They replaced my storm damaged roof.
They met with the insurance adjuster and filed all of my paperwork with my insurance provider. Basically I did NOTHING!!
Their workers performed quality work and did an excellent job of cleaning up their mess when finished. I have a fairly large house and they were completely finished in 2 days. Very large crew.
I would HIGHLY recommend using

There was some miscommunication at first but once the crew got to our office they were very efficient and productive. Our roof looks great and we couldn't be happier with the end results. There were some minimal damages that happened while the work was being done but all were addressed by the foreman of the crew,

May, and taken care of the very next day. They even put the gutter on at no cost to us and took about 10% off the total cost of the bill. The foreman

worked with my homeowners insurance for me so I did not have to deal with them. My new roof was tore off and completely installed in 8 hours!! Everyone was very professional and the area was completely cleaned up after the work was completed, when we came home from work you could not even tell they were there except we had a new roof and gutters :)
