is an efficient system that gave us an extra level of security and peace of mind whenever we left home. We sold our home recently and transferred" the system to the new owners, who also appear to be pleased with the service. There is an initial installation fee. Then the cost per month is approx. $39.00

"I bought a house in a new subdivision in San Tan Valley last year and, as you might imagine, every possible post-construction vendor came knocking. Including
" with Talon.
is a contractor and everything went well until I figured out that the equipment had issues, and some things were not made clear in the process. 1. That
County would come looking for a permit if they were ever called or notified (yes, I asked) 2. That my little
Inu dog (5 lbs) would be setting off the alarm as she roamed the house. Again, yes I asked and was told that the motion sensor would ignore anything smaller than 20 lbs. I had it removed by
because as soon as I set the alarm to leave it would go off and then I would get calls from Security AND
County as well as it going off while I was on a plane traveling. With a bit of attitude and a stern warning not to talk to my neighbors about it, he removed the system and left. He also left holes in the walls and strips of paint and texture missing where he ripped the sensors down. One of my neighbors told me she was thinking of having hers removed, not knowing that I had done so, and she still has it. We did not discuss my situation. Fast forward six months, and another neighbor of mine decides they
’t care for the sub-par service and want theirs removed, again, I have not had a discussion with them either, when Mr.
decides to go on a rant to them about me, calling me out by name to my customer telling them that he ”gave me a special deal and removal to help me out because my credit was bad and I didn’t pay my bills”. In addition, he told my neighbors that he knew where I worked and was going to get me fired. He then has the audacity to call my personal number and berate me over the phone saying I am “bad-mouthing” him and ruining his business. I have had no conversations to that effect with anyone and most certainly do not appreciate his approach. So, when dealing with
on behalf of Talon, consider these security issues: 1. He has threatened me to my neighbors 2. He threatened me over the phone 3. He made false accusations about why he’s losing business 4. He shared personal information about my financials with my neighbors Is this a security company you want to give your business to? By the way, I am open to suggestions about channels to contact about the sharing of my personal info.

How Much Does it Cost to Install a Home Security System?

Securing your home is important, but how much does it cost install a security system?

10 Questions to Ask Your Home Security Provider

The security of your home is important. Ask these questions before you make a hire.

Look for a home security company that makes your family's safety a top priority, says Perez. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Gregory P. of New York)

On this episode of Chat with the Experts, Armando Perez of Hoosier Security explains the importance of home security systems and what options are available.

, Alarms

You return home from work to find your door forced open. "Surely not a burglary!" you exclaim to yourself.

adjusting a hardwired smoke detector
Alarms, , Electrical

Dear Angie: How often do I need to replace my hard-wired smoke detectors? And who should I hire to do this? Our 15-year-old system has five detectors. A few are chirping, and it doesn’t stop even when we replace the batteries. – Michael G., Benbrook, Texas

Wireless systems are easy to install, but wired systems offer more flexibility.

Angie's Answers

I second the original question (still unanswered). Speaking as someone who logged in today to try to find an attorney, I see this category as one that's exactly what I have my Angie's List membership for:

1. It's important that I find a good one
2. I'm not an expert enough to know myself who is a good one
3. The industry is full of advertisements and misinformation
4. I wish I knew what experiences other people have had

I don't care about lawns--I planted mine in clover and don't have to mow it. When I do need to mow I use a rotary Fiskars mower, which is great--or a scythe. That's right--a scythe (the European type, which is smaller, and it's very good exercise). Gas-powered mowers, chemical fertilizers and weed killers--all nasty stuff that gets into everyone's air, soil, and water. I'm sure my neighbor doesn't like my wildflowers, semi-wild pockets of fruit bushes, and unmown areas and yes, dandelions (I have 10 acres) but that's too bad. It's better habitat for wildlife, especially the pollinators on which our food supply depends. I think this obsession with the Great American Lawn is a waste of time and resources. Plant some food instead.

I'm not sure Angie et. al. want you to have a complete answer to this question. By re-subscribing at the Indiana State Fair in 2012, I think I paid $20.00 per year for a multi- year subscription. Maybe even less. At the other extreme--and I hope my memory isn't faulty about this--I think the price, for my area, for ONE year was an outrageous $70.00. And they debited me automatically without warning. I had to opt out of that automatic charge. I like Angie's List, but if some of the companies they monitor behaved the way they do in this respect, they'd be on some sort of Pages of Unhappiness. I'll be interested to see if this comment gets published or censored out of existence.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

You have to put your self in the shoes of a business that is in business to turn a profit of some sort. All businesses have different overhead which in turn decides what their bottom line would be on their services. I personally would not go with an unlicensed professional for this type of install. You are messing with gas, venting issues, electrical wiring{electric water heater} and updated code issues such as a drain pan and tempature and relief drain lines for heaters that currently do not have them. I do agree that there are some companies that are way out of line for their installs but most of these companies are the really big companies that have very high overheads  I would assume. Tank type water heaters have changed over the last several years and with these safety changes come bigger prices. The price of steel thanks to China is skyrocketing and tank type water heaters are made of steel. Most wholesale plumbing supply companies cannot match what the big box stores are selling at retail to consumers. I happen to think from research that heaters such as Rheem, Bradford White and AOSmith who have been in business forever make a better product than what you can buy in the big box outlets. You also have to take in consideration the location of the water heater that is being replaced. Is it in the house, basement, garage or attic. Most 40 and 50 gallon water heaters that are purchased in a plumbing wholesale store in Texas cost between 300-340 for a 6 year warranty heater with 6 year on parts and tank. Speaking of warranty. Most big box companies will take a least 24 hours to a week to get your warranty problem taken care of. Most reputable plumbing companies will give same day service if they installed the heater.

So lets break down a typical install at cost to a licensed plumber in Texas

Heater: $315, water shut off $6.50, water flex lines or unions to code $20, gas flex line and cut off to code $12, misc fittings $15, Total $368.50 Lets add a 35% profit which is some what low  for a business $129, Total 497.50

This doesnt  include permits, pan and drain or any venting issues. The vent must go from the heater to the outside of roof using double wall vent.

Cost of permit on average $60

Most plumbing companies allow for 3 hours of time for a water heater. This includes picking the new one up. Delivering out to house. Draining and removing old water heater. Hauling off old heater. Installing new heater up to code. Going down to city and pulling permit.

Average Labor charges for heater installs $400

That would make this install run without extras on any code issues $957.50

I just had a 50 gallon gas water heater installed in my house for $1200 but I needed a pan installed. I used a licensed plumber.

Todd said it best.

An itemized list / cost breakdown, more often than not is used against the contractor when it is shared with other builders who will then beat it.

Good contractors use good people, and good people cost more.  Just the cost of having the appropriate insurance / bond can be the difference between winning a job or losing it ot a 'lower bid'.

It is the rule of three; there is Good, Cheap and Fast.  You can have any two:  Good and Cheap, won't be Fast; Good and Fast, won't be Cheap;  Cheap and Fast, won't be Good!

When comparing bids, it isn't the cheapest or the 'nicest' person you should select.   You should understand why there is a large price difference (it shows there are gaps in your design program or what you have asked for specifically, which means there may be arguments later).  If most of the bids are in line, and one is way high or way low,  you want to know why before dismissing or selecting them.

A price-only decision almost always costs more in the long run.

Good luck!

The customer service is outstanding. They promptly answered questions and provided feedback. They were more than willing to assist. Even when a product was not ordered they were willing to give a discount. The installation process was easy and the initial setup via customer service was easy. Unfortunately, customer service is not available after regular business hours.

They were very responsive in understanding what I wanted on our first phone call. They then followed up several times to coordinate the appointment. They were punctual, and very responsive to what I wanted as I walked them through the house. They did the work efficiently, and professionally. Would definitly recommend them to friends for AV/Security/wirinig work.

Very professional installation. Clean cut workers that were very courteous and cleaned up after themselves. System works perfectly.

It has gone very badly. I'm going to fire them some time this week. They have the wrong address of the house. I've asked them 3 times to change it and they say they will but they never do. I'm going to send them a letter asking them to refund my money and as soon as they refund it all, I'll be happy to ship the thing back to them.

After doing alot of research of other security systems,
Rome Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
consistent was ranked the best. I was looking for a system that included home automation as well as monitoring service. The package I bought for $199 for a full set up, and the service rep was able to customize a package for my home. The set up was relatively easy and only required sticking the sensors onto the wall. The system comes pre-programmed. They recommend you set up an appointment and
Rome Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
will call you during a 1 hour timeslot, but I was able to get through pretty easy on a weeknight. I set up my system in two waves. 1st to activate the system, then to set up my pre-existing zwave system. If you aren't using
Rome Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
zwave sensors, it is a bit more difficult and the service reps aren't as knowledgeable. (Note, I have a pretty extensive z-wave system, (the rep commented that it was the most sensors he had set up and had to google alot of answers). Overall the app is very easy to use and you can set up different scenarios to alert you if you leave a door open if you go beyond 1 mile radius of your house. Very helpful if you might leave your garage door open! Would recommend this system to other people, however use the
Rome Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
zwave sensors if you're not tech saavy since they'll set it up for you.

Great service. Responded quickly, set up an appointment same week. Was on time and communicative. Promptly diagnosed a problem that his competitor completely botched, and then fixed it. Then troubleshooted and repaired a bunch of other more minor issues. Got the system up and running and tested everything. Would definitely recommend.
