failed---miserable and spectacularly—on both counts. The grading made the problem worse instead of better. The contract stated that to address the improper drainage, the grading would create six inches of fall (slope). Instead there is absolutely no slope at all from the foundation until almost 14 feet away from the house. It’s completely flat! Then the ground suddenly drops six inches over in next three feet creating a 75 foot
with a flat bottom running down the center of my yard. Every time it rains there is a lake effect with at least 2-3 inches of standing water in the bottom of the
(PIC-1, -2, -3). The yard doesn’t fully drain itself for at least a day or more and the water has washed away much of the sod in its path. (PIC- 4, -5, -5a, -5b) When I complained about the improper grading the first thing
said was, “I never promised you 6 inches of fall.” When I showed him the contract that says 6 inches of fall, he said quickly reversed himself and said, “OK you do have 6 inches of fall but the contract doesn’t say where the fall would start.” Can you believe this guy? He’s trying to convince me proper grading means the slope STARTS 15 feet away from the foundation! But instead of honoring the terms of the contract, he offered to put down 2 inches of soil to build up the ground level at the foundation. However, the siding on the house is only a few inches from the ground right now, that’s why it needed to be graded a half foot AWAY from the foundation. And my termite company tells me that having the soil level any closer to the exterior siding would create a pest problem not to mention voiding my termite bond. The sod they installed is also a mess -- dead in several sections.
has refused to correct his mistake and re-grade the yard and re-install the sod and it needs it because the grading was a disaster and the sod is dead. There was virtually no prior soil preparation once grading was completed. The new sod went right down onto the bulldozed clay with only a sprinkling of top soil. And they did not roll it (PIC 6, 7). I have already contacted two other landscape companies and a general contractor to have the yard and the grading assessed and everyone has said the same thing—the yard was not graded properly, the sod had not been rolled and the backyard needs to be re-graded before the improperly draining soil creates a mold problem in the crawlspace. But that’s was only the beginning of the debacle--the entire project was plagued with problems. The contract stated they were not to dig any closer than 12 inches from the foundation because I have a liquid termite
. Naturally, the first thing the workmen did was to dig a 16 foot long trench right up against the foundation removing the termite
.
complained that I should have reminded him about the digging issue. I think
should have been on site when they started digging. And that was the real problem in this job --
himself. For the ENTIRE two days that they graded and sodded my yard
was NOWHERE on site. He was at home supervising the installation of a new roof on his house because his roofing needed to be done immediately! He didn’t tell me this until they began the grading and didn’t mention that he would not be there AT ALL and so rather than re-schedule my job he abandoned it into the hands of a crew of non-English speaking workers who couldn’t communicate with me and were clearly not competent to do this job without supervision. If you’re crazy enough to use this company, consider this a word to the wise: I spent $5,400 for a yard that is almost unusable and with the added potential to create major problems to the structure of my home. It will take several thousand dollars more to fix the problems that
and his crew created. If you’re smart you will run in the other direction.

Overall,
did the work we agreed upon. I have a great back yard, nice new driveway, it looks great and I love it.
started the job on time and it moved very quickly to completion. ...more />
There were extra costs and frustrations.

underestimated the job by 3 (out of 13) pallets of grass and came back to me for more money half way through the job for that. Some plants I paid to relocate got moved to the wrong locations, a drain pipe under the new driveway was forgotten, sprinkler system had a few issues, and a downspout drain pipe he placed had a backwards slope towards my house and had to be dug up and reinstalled.

Some of these issues I chose to simply fix myself after
finished the job because I grew tired of reminding him of what we talked about and
pushed back quite a bit when I requested things be fixed (plants moved, drain pipe sloped correctly, etc)

Overall, my experience is a passing grade of C.
certainly got the big work done I wanted and the grass and driveway are spectacular. I was a bit disappointed in the details.

called me to discuss this review and I've reworded it a bit to try to as fair as possible. I appreciate that he did offer to come out and fix things I was not satisfied with, but I declined his offer.

He was very thorough and knowledgable. The estimate from
Norcross Landscapers Provider Name Locked
was comparable to others we received. While we ultimately went with another provider, we would consider this company for future projects.

I spent $350 for their services. Overall, it was good. You have to make sure that you stay in contact with the guy who came out. He is not good about staying in contact with you. I might use their services again.

gave us a prompt response on our request for a quote (some never responded, some barely spoke Ensligh), and honest "no pressure" options (e.g., bermuda or zoyzia grass, with or without irrigation system). When we decided to go with him and scheduled the work, he showed up on the appointed dates. He came out about two weeks early and sprayed the old lawn with herbicide to

it. Then did the lawn and irrigation system install over two days. First, scraped off the old dead lawn. Then had a dump truck of topsoil delivered, spread and smoothed. Then laid down the new sod.

There were small bumps in the process: he underestimated the amount of sod we would need by maybe $200, but he had more available to cover the shortfall immediately. The added cost didn't bother me because when you commit yourself to a job of that scale, you have to expect minor hitches.

He predicted he would cut our TV cable when scraping the old lawn off, because it always happens, and it did. But he then either walked us through or handled himself contacting them to get it restored. A couple of the irrigations heads didn't work right at first, but he was prompt in getting them in proper working order.

I believe that success in a new lawn installation depends a lot on the quality of the grass you have installed. If you buy stuff from a big box store that's been sitting on a

forever, you take your chances.

uses a couple of sod dealers in Alabama, and the lawn he installed, once it settled in, was beautiful. Had to fight off the crabgrass the first year while it etablished itself -- now (if only God would send rain on occasion) it's wonderfully self sustaining.

Our neighbor across the street went with

as well when he installed a new bermuda lawn and irrigation system a couple of years later, and same thing -- his lawn, once established, looks absolutely fantastic (he uses his irrigation system more than I do though, so his water bills are higher, but his lawn could have been yard of the month).

Bottom line:
Norcross Landscapers Provider Name Locked
is a straight-talker. He didn't try to upsell me once he had my order, he didn't try to pressure me into buying something I didn't want. I got prompt, excellent service for a fair price with good follow-up (he always seemed to be available whenever I called, or called back fast). And I love the results.

We contacted
Norcross Landscapers Provider Name Locked
to provide an estimate for stone work in our front porch area and to solve some erosion problems. We had an idea for a courtyard / patio using stone. We also wanted to create a dry stream bed to handle erosion issues. When Navid Derakhshan (owner and landscape architect) arrived, he was prompt and prepared to review all our concerns and wants.

Navid had some excellent ideas and offered ways for us to stay in our budget without sacrificing the look we were after.
We are very satisfied with all the work and had additional work done in our backyard. Navid provided very healthy and large trees, shrubs and plants as well as fill dirt, top soil, sod, rock garden, a water feature, stone and rocks for steps, bridge, stack wall. We would recommend this company without hesitation and in the future we would use them again. Very professional!!!!

Landscape scheduled a time that worked with my schedule. I wasn't home for the day of work, but everything appeared to be very business like when finished. No problems.

They were prompt to come quote. They showed up when they said they would to start work. They did a great job on a parking pad. They ran into a few struggles with the double gate but worked on it until it was correct and met expectations - both ours and theirs ~ which took much longer than expected (months). They had no problem not being paid until the job was complete. I would recommend them to others. It was the professional way they handled the challenge of the gate that was the most impressive. They "walk the walk".
