"10 mins after our appointment time, the sales rep called to say he was still at his 3pm appointment. We were to meet at 6 at the new house we bought but do not live" in yet. I called the office number at 6:08 and left a message. It was not returned. That was our first and last experience with this company.

"I ordered seven windows for a typical row home in Baltimore. Our stock windows were literally falling apart. Wooden frames were heavily rotting. Most of the windows" could not be opened at all. Another very cheap and reputable national installer, who gives "deep discounts" quoted my $4,500 for seven windows. This was done about a year after we absolutely needed one window installed, which cost $900. But I wasn't satisfied with their quote, so I found WindowNation. Herb at WindowNation came by with his demo stuff, including a tiny show window and a heat lamp. He was ready to give me the low-down on what to expect in window purchasing, but I had already done most of my homework, since I learned about Low-E glass and the available types of glass. Still however, Herb's use of the heat lamp to demonstrate heat transfer through glass is an eye-opener. I could barely feel heat with my hand just two feet from the Low-E glass, but even eight feet from the lamp while standing outside, the heat transfer was felt through my own standard glass. Herb is able to explain windows because he's done them for so long. He gave me an estimate that made me step back. Taxes? Installation fees? No, Herb said, the quoted price is the install price, period. What I thought might have been about the same price as the national window company, was actually $2,786. For SEVEN windows. Installed, with argon-filled Low-E glass. Metal frames surrounded by vinyl. Just $398 for each one. Please indulge me as I try to help. Herb came by the following week to measure all windows. Windows are then custom-built, which simply, takes time. He said it would be about 4-6 weeks but that typically, 4 weeks is the better estimate. The windows were ready in about that time. don't rush them in, because it simply takes that long for the materials to be cut, molded, and welded together. Regarding this company, they said that there is a size threshold to consider. My windows were six smaller ones and one larger one (37 inches wide), and as long as the window size is SMALLER than the threshold size, each window will cost the same. No
prices there. The work crew just finished installing all windows, which took them about 3 hours. I think the exterior caulking could have been smoother on several of the frames outside, but the caulking inside and out, were done to seal the windows as best as they could. By the time they finished installing the exterior vinyl the facade looks 100pct better than the old windows. They are much easier to maintain and they have a 20 year warranty. This has been my first experience in purchasing a home filled with replacement windows. I had read other reviews where the lead time was too long, or the install wasn't correct. Each end every window fit well. Each one was installed properly. And they took all the refuse away. One thing I truly noticed that hadn't been told to expect: The sound quality in our home has been improved dramatically! We had 30 year old plain glass windows, and we could hear EVERYTHING outside. Small talk, our loudmouth neighbor
(we love him), cars going by, or the generator humming from the school across the street. Just now I saw a couple talking across the street, and I literally could not hear their conversation as they talked. Cars now pass, and the sound seems more muffled now. It's quite an impressive improvement. Within the next day or so, our first cold front should pass. I can imagine that the draft will be much less than with our old windows.
was talking to himself again, and while it cannot stop the Mouth of
, it did muffle it better. For the price I couldn't beat the value. In closing, here's an update about that expected storm: we just had a pretty decent amount of rain from the nor'easter/hurricane that passed off the coast. Gusts of wind and rain that was constant over almost four days were absolutely no problem. I see how we will have much more comfort in our homes, plus an amount of energy savings. I used to feel the breeze and outside temperature seeping into EVERY old window, but have zero issues with outside influence today. And it's also a good selling point that all my windows and doors are now EnergyStar compliant.

Angie's Answers

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

Thermal numbers look okay when looking at the NFRC.

Do you have any other data on them?  Air infiltration, Design Pressure, Visible Transmittance, and Condensation Resistance are all good evaluators.

Air infiltration rate is way high at 0.21.

It may look nice in person but the performance numbers are below average.

Window Replacement reviews in Fortson

He walked me through my options for windows and promised to detail them in the estimate. After not hearing back from him, I followed up with an email a couple of weeks later giving him the benefit of the doubt that perhaps he had written down the wrong email and still have not heard from him.
Since communication and responsiveness are key traits I look for in a contractor, I have moved on.

We recently had a new Roof installed by Power along with some other work such as gutters and trim work. We had a very pleasant experience with them and all of their employees. The crews were specialized and all of them were very professional and did an excellent job. We are very pleased with the service.

DO NOT use this company....they are scam artists or seriously inept when it comes to any knowledge of windows. My husband and I moved from Chicago and bought a home here in Atlanta on Memorial Drive. Both the vibration and car noises are intense and so we decided to replace our windows to minimize (as you can never fully get rid of the noise) the amount of noise entering our home. We dealt with two primary people (who we have never heard from since they took our money)

was the gentleman who came over and met with my husband to discuss our needs. I had done a tremendous amount of research on windows, STC ratings, and options for sound reduction which my husband parlayed to

never did an acoustical evaluation, just kept promising my husband that he would provide us with the highest STC rated, triple paned most sound reducing windows they had. They took our money, and what we did receive were windows with an STC rating two points above our original windows (also only double paned which were what our original windows all ready were)....which in

's terms only reduced our sound by approximately 15%.....which on Memorial Drive is not that noticeable a difference. So now we are 8k in the hole with windows barely better than the original ones installed in our house. Additionally, the installers did a very poor job caulking our windows (and even forgot to caulk the outside of our bedroom windows), so much so that even the operations manager (

have vanished into thin air, no one is ever in the office to answer the phone and I have on repeated occasions had to write on their website asking for assistance. I have only received sporadic contact with

and have not heard from him or anyone in two weeks, despite both my husband and I leaving repeated messages. In effect, this is a sham company, started by some rich guy's son as a hobby who evidently has no idea what he is talking about, and who carelessly rips hard working people off. The reviews you read on their site are the only reviews available and considering the fact they are the ones to edit the page, I am suspect if they are even real. Do yourself a favor, and save yourself a tremendous amount of money and go with a legitimate window company. Do not make the mistake we did.

This is the fourth time that I have used Signature Windows for a window/door replacement. Needless to say, I have been pleased with their products and service each time.

did an outstanding job! The installer that came finished the entire project in a very timely manner. I am beyond satisfied and would call them again in a heart beat!

I called
Fortson Window Installers Provider Name Locked
about a week ago to schedule an appraisal. We were told that they would come out at about 8:00 am. They did not call or show up at 8:00. We called at 8:30 am to find out what the hold up was and were told that they were still on another job. I told them that we had other things planned and that I could not wait around all day. Another lady got on the phone with me and told me that we should not have been given a specific time, but that they usually give a 4 hour time frame.
Then I called again today (10/6/15) to try again to set up an appointment for them to come out on Thursday, Oct 8th and give me an appraisal. The lady who answered the phone said that they would tell them to come out on Thursday. When I asked for a time frame, I was told that they don't give out a time frame at all. The best that they can do is call about an hour ahead of time to let me know that they are coming. I declined to schedule the appointment because I don't have time to wait around all day for them to tell me that they are coming. Most people have busy schedules. This business model basically devalues the customers time.
Fortson Window Installers Provider Name Locked
should be able to have a little better idea of their work schedule than an 8 - 10 time frame. I truly don't know if I would consider using them in the future.

After some initial confusion over the signed contract being submitted, they ordered the window and installed it. The initial problem was I thought the contract was signed and submitted so the window was ordered (4 to 6 week delivery), they were waiting on an "ok" to proceed with the order. It delayed the install, but it all worked out ok. They were a good group to work with.
