"It rained the next two weeks and he understandably did not show up. Then another 4 weeks passed. So I called and I was told that they would start the next week." Then I got a call the next day from the owner saying, "I decided your house is too far away and you should find some one more local to maintain your lawn." I waited 6 weeks and now my lawn is overgrown and they didn't have the courtesy or principle to honor their signed contract, not even once. Beware!

"1/16/15 we noticed that branches on the old, large spruce tree in the front yard were leaning on the telephone wire. The tree is adjacent to the electrical cable" wires. we were concerned because inclement weather was predicted and that the branches could affect the telephone and electric wires. We scheduled a visit online with
and they came by 1/19/15 (we were not home), and emailed a proposal the same day. the company recommended that the spruce be cut down. We decided to prune the tree and were not able to employ
. However because of the responsiveness, professionalism and efficiency, we will use them in the future.

Hiring to trim trees? A how-to guide

Follow these tips to find a tree service that will clip with care and leave you with dollars for the rest of your landscape.

Tree Care and Services

Trees grow slowly so you can't afford to make a mistake by planting them in the wrong location or overlooking something that puts the tree at risk. Tree care is something most homeowners can do on their own, but an expert should be called if a tree is showing signs of disease or if limbs need to be removed.

Removing a tree is the most expensive service, and typically includes cutting it down section by section, then hauling away the pieces. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Kathleen L. of Keizer, Ore.)

I would strongly suggest sending your neighbors a certified letter stating that, per your earlier conversation, you consider this tree to be a hazard due to its proximity to the power lines.  Then, when and if something bad does happen, you will have a record of having informed them of it and they won't be able to say "we didn't know."

You say the county has told you it is the neighbor's problem.  Did you contact the local electric company?  They should care very much about the situation.

I would also recommend taking lots of pictures showing the proximity of the tree to the wires and that it is obviously dead.

Dead trees do sometimes stay vertical for a very long time, but it sounds like a tense situation for you.  I understand your desire to not inflame the situation, but it doesn't sound like there is anything more you can do that won't have the potential to do so.  So it becomes your responsibility to look after your own interests in the most reasonable way possible.

For my money, never ? I do a walk-around yearly in the summer (when easy to work on and before the heavy fall winds in our area) and look for trees with dead crowns, losing branches everywhere but at the crown, brown branches (evergreens) or leafless branches, leaning trees, trees with visible rot, trees with major bark loss, trees with seriously damaged or eroded away roots, etc. If none of those symptoms, then I call our 100 or so trees good for the year.

Of course, the bigger the trees and the likelihood of house damageor powerline loss (especially in winter) if there is a major branch or tree fall comes into play also. I trim and cut my own trees when needed regardless of size, so my level of confidence in being able to handle anything comes into it.

If you are worried about one or more trees, call an arborist to check them out - then I would say unless there is evidence of damage - ESPECIALLY leaning trees or major branches not leafing like the rest of the tree - I would not worry having them looked at more frequently than every 10 years or so.

came with his three man crew to my home on the day of the job and went over all the details and explained each tree trimming plan.He is very knowledgeable and professional as well as being personable and pleasant. He really listened to my thoughts and his suggestions were extremely helpful to the process. They arrived promptly and finished the job within a few hours. The yard looks amazing, even better than we expected.Their clean up was beyond incredible, not only the yard but the sidewalk and street were left spotless. I would highly recommend

They arrived on time with a team of 6. Worked all day and then even did some extra when asked. Fast and professional. Being new to the area we had to trust Angie's list for recommendations. This worked out great. We will definitely use them again as I'm sure we will have more trees that need to come out.
- Barbara H.

I was very, very pleased all around. The price of $270 was $200 less than the estimate I got from another Angie's list recommended business. They came out on time, did the job very well, cleaned up well, and were gone! The only thing they left was a beautifully trimmed tree. I didn't pay anything until the job was done. They were very professional all around, from my phone calls to their office to the guys that did the tree trimming. I couldn't be happier.

The work took about half a day. The owner was here at the beginning and end of work. His men spoke to us before they began to ensure they had proper instructions and checked several more times during the process. They were very professional and friendly. Our grandson enjoyed watching them and they were even attentive to him. Total clean-up at the end. Very pleased.
- Carol T.

The owner was on the jobsite and very much involved with overseeing everything was done as he and I had agreed upon. They were prompt and on time. His team of men were professional, respectful of myself and my property not to mention my dog. I would highly recommend this company again and again. I am a single woman home owner and it is not always easy and often companies try to be taken advantage of this fact. I never once felt like that with
Dublin Tree Services Provider Name Locked
. I still cant believe he did the job he did (and it was a HUGE job) and gave me the deal he did.I didn't even have to ask or haggle the price. I have had to deal with this tree since I have owned my home in 2002, I know what a big job this was and I appreciate
