"First appointment was just an assessment of the pain. Nurse was not friendly at all - exceptionally unfriendly. Doctor is quite friendly but not exactly "engaged" in making" you better. He gave me a prescription for an antispasmotic and sent me to get bloodwork and a sonogram which was scheduled about a week later. After both the bloodwork and the sonogram, there was no call or follow up at all, so after about another week of waiting in pain, I called his nurse. When she returned my call, she said the tests were normal. So I asked what to do next, and she said flipantly well it's up to you - you can make another appointment to come back, or just take the medications he gave you. I did end up scheduling and going to a follow up appointment. He didn't even examine me the second time, just said that since the sonogram was normal, it's probably irritable bowel syndrome, which has no treatment. His exact words were "I recommend you smile more and try to enjoy life" since IBS is related to stress. Perhaps this is a good advice, but when you're in unexplainable pain 24/7, and a medical doctor's opinion comes across like that, it feels patronizing. I asked for dietary suggestions and he didn't have much to offer. On my way out the door, the front desk gave me a brochure on FOODMAPS diet, but no one had talked to me about it, so I had to use google to figure out whether it even applied to me or was mistakenly given out. This wasn't the worst doctor experience ever, but 3 months later I ended up in the ER from severe abdominal pain, and I suspect it's related. I will follow up with a different doctor this time in

"He's very good at what he does. He makes you feel like he's talking to you on a one on one basis. He knows who I am and who my wife is. I consider him an excellent doctor." He'll go out of his way to explain things in
's terms. He'll answer any questions and he's very good at what he does. He has a very good sense of humor as well.

Gastroenterology reviews in Calhoun

This is his second surgery in about 20 years so he was not sure if he would end up with the colonostopy bag or not and based on the xrays that were taken the Doctor was not able to determine what he would need to do during the surgery. He ended up having to take all but about 4' of his small bowl which is just enough for him to not need to have the bag. This was my fathers biggest fear with the surgery. His quality of life had diminished so much in the previous few years before the surgery and he was having severe effects from crohns, he finally decided it was time and accepted that he may need to end up with the bag.
The surgery was a great success, my fathers quality of life is the best it has been in years - he can do so much and eat almost whatever he wants. He is happy that he had the surgery.

was really good to work with, he was very informative to our family and answered all the questions we had an explained the procedure to us very well. He had great bedside manners as well. We were very happy with his services and would not hesitate to recommend him to others looking for a surgeon for similar need.

The service in his office was excellent. Dr. Meckstroth answered all my questions and beforehand explained the procedure. He is kind and very professional. I like his bedside manner and would recommend him highly.

This was the most organized and best experience I have ever had going into a procedure at a hospital. I met with Dr.
Calhoun Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
for the first time a few weeks ago in his office and he spent more time with me answering questions than any physician ever has. He even walked me to the checkout counter which may not seem like much, but it's a big deal to me considering how often doctors leave things like that to a nurse. He personally took notes down about my issues and discussed possible solutions and what to expect when I had my scope done. His attention to detail is outstanding and is simply easy to talk to.
He came in before my procedure and again asked if I had any questions. He was very thorough, and went through what would be happening. Once in the OR, he again explained things to me and asked again if I had questions. My procedure went well and was very fast with no issues. This doctor is the real-deal and I highly recommend him

They have everything. They have cardiologists. They have gastroenterologists. They have straight doctors. You name it, they have it. They also have technical facilities for anything but an MRI that take pictures. They're quite full of everything. If I really had to get something on a given day with a cardiologist or something, I could probably get it. Generally, I make reserved time for problems. It takes maybe a week or so to get an appointment. They have a very nice office. Punctuality depends on the doctor I'm seeing. Generally, it's not too bad; they're probably within 15 or 20 minutes of what they say. They never know how long it's gonna take with a patient; they're pretty good. The staff is very nice. The doctors I deal with have a very good bedside manner. Some doctors communicate better than others. I've had no problems with the billing. I use them all the time.

He was very caring and warm. He made this situation easy to get through. I have PTSD and he was very comforting with my disorder, I give him extra credit for taking care of me so well. I was scared to death of this first time procedure, everyone on staff and even the hospital staff were so accommodating to me and made me feel very comfortable.

He is very thorough, takes his time and is very caring and supportive. He is one of the best doctors I have ever had. The firm is excellent at communication.

In September 2011 Dr.

performed a colonoscopy on me. I asked for him to perform an EGD at the same time because I was having reflux and heartburn. I wanted both at the same time to avoid preparation for separate procedures. Besides, I told him that my daughter-in-law was being treated for colon cancer and I was helping take care of the grandchildren. Scheduling two procedures would be difficult. Dr.

refused, saying that both procedures at the same time for some reason was not good for the patient. I didn't buy that, as I had had both procedures done together about 10 years earlier when I lived in Watertown without any problems. After I told him that, he said that there would be problems with the insurance doing them at the same time. I didn't buy that either but went ahead with the colonoscopy anyway. We didn't get around to the EGD until June 4, 2013. My son was with me. After the EGD, Dr..

handed us a hand-written paper about the findings: "Gastritis, reflux, and hiatal hernia. No ulcer or bleeding."
This month (about 1 1/2 years after the first one) I received a letter from

's office stating I was due another procedure. I wondered why I needed one so soon, so I asked for copies of my records to be sent to me. To my astonishment, the report read that I had

's (a precancerous condition). No one had ever notified me of this or told me how to care for it. During all this time I had been taking tramadol and naproxen for a severe hip problem and massive doses of ibuprofen prescribed by a podiatrist for a foot problem. Now I am wondering if I have full-blown cancer caused by this neglect. The report also stated that he performed a duodenal biopsy for malabsorption, for which I received no report or explanation. In addition, the report said I had a "daughter" with colon cancer. This tells me he was not even listening to what I was telling him.
Being very unhappy with what I was finding out, I called his office to have my records faxed to another GI doctor. I called 3 days later to see if this had been done, and I was told that there was no record of me calling and asking for the records to be faxed.
