The initial impression was positive. They scheduled us right away on relatively short notice during the busy summer season, called to confirm the night before, and called to let us know they were on their way and were a bit late (20-30 mins, they said running late coming from another job in Englewood up to our house in Westminster and in mid-afternoon rush hour traffic).
The 3 gentlemen were polite and worked hard - there were 2 adults plus 1 teenager or college kid.
We had requested help to load heavy/bulky items onto an ABF UPack trailer we contracted with (which we highly recommend for anyone doing a large, long distance move). They instead loaded about 95% of our 4-bedroom house for us, which at first
The grade we gave them is based on their hard work and going beyond what we asked for in loading the truck in Colorado, and the shocking and shoddy packing job we found when unloading our trailer when it arrived at our new home in
1) They stacked boxes and heavy items on top of a flimsy office chair
2) We found numerous instances of heavy, bulky items stacked on top of small, fragile items, such as boxes marked as "fragile" and "do not stack heavy items on." This includes a very fragile box of artwork that we specifically asked for and wrote on the box to NOT stack anything heavy on - yet it was on the bottom of a large pile of very heavy boxes and items.
3) Similar cases of plastic storage bins where the lightest/most fragile was on the bottom of the trailer, and much heavier ones were piled on top, crushing the ones on the bottom.
4) We specifically requested they use plastic sofa and chair bags, and box spring bags, before loading them on the trailer - they did not, and those items had stains and dirt on them as a result.
5) Careless loading and packing of heavy sofas and reclining chairs - which ended up damaging, and destroying, 2 bookcases, an end table, and a vintage hope chest.
Really, we were just shocked as the trailer was unloaded. We can only surmise they either really weren't experienced movers, were just too tired from the previous job earlier in the day and just didn't give a d*** about our things, and overall would send a strong word of caution to anybody using this company in the future. We didn't watch them as they packed the truck - we assumed they were professional movers who knew what they were doing, and importantly, would take care of our items. We were sadly mistaken.
In the overall scheme of things, the damaged items noted weren't that huge of a deal considering the amount of items being moved, fortunately. Most of our things were just fine. But see the photos attached and judge for yourself before hiring this company.
I had to go ahead and meet with the new landlord, and since he was still packing the trucks when we were supposed to leave, I went ahead to my new residence with a friend. He said he would take pictures of everything when he left and send them to my via his phone. Bad weather and traffic caused delays, but it became very clear that he needed more people to help move in the time he allotted--they were exhausted.
What was quoted as a 4 hour move became an 11 hour move. When he arrived he said that he had left somethings on the deck, and so would go back and pick them up and bring them the next day. I said that was ok, I would get them. I and another person also helped to unload the trucks, when they finally arrived. At the end, he tried to extract more payment than the original fee, I though this was ridiculous because it was his poor planning! I did think that he worked very hard, and I gave him all that I had, which was still less than he said he should get, but more than we agreed upon originally. As part of the agreement, he said he would return to the uhaul I rented and fill up the tank. When he returned the truck, he did not fill it up, so I was charged an extra 120.00. He also broke a mirror, but had volunteered to take it back to Bloomington and get it repaired free of charge.
When I returned to the condo, I realized he had left A LOT of things on the deck, and inside the house as well-- two large rugs, and a shelving unit on another deck. I took pictures of all that he had left behind. The mirror
Only negative was we had asked them to remove and donate several large pieces of furniture and a TV to Goodwill, which they said they would do and then realized there was not enough room on the truck for these items. So we told them that we would handle them the next day ourselves. That was the only minor issue that we had asked for that they did not complete, but for us this was not a big deal given the level of effort and professionalism of their crew--even the 16 year old "youngster". Except for a lunch break, they all worked continuously from the time they got there to the time they finished at the new house. It was a life saver for us!
