"Great job! Had to remove an old, lower quality unit and replace with new solar tube. Installed 2 additional tubes and did a very good job!

8 tips for finding the best solar panel installer

One highly rated provider shares eight tips to help you find the best solar panel installer for your home and get the best return on your investment.

3 types of solar panels: pros and cons

Are you confused about how solar panels work? Manufacturers produce three general types of panels, with variances that affect efficiency and performance. Find out how the three types differ, and which might work best.

Connecting your residential solar power to the utility grid comes with advantages, but for some homeowners a stand-alone solar system is a better fit.

When selecting a solar panel installer, it’s important to know the efficiency of the panels that will be used in your system. Cheaply made solar panels do not give homeowners as high a return on investment. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Thomas B. of Las Vegas)

Getting a solar panel system is a big decision … and so is choosing which company will install it for you.

Thinking of installing solar panels? Here are some payment options to consider.

There are many high pressure solar companies out there pushing a solar lease and homeowners may not fully understand what they are getting into, says Burnett. (Photo courtesy of SolarCraft)

Leasing solar panels may sound like a nice way to get green energy into your home, but count the cost before you sign that lease instead of buying outright.

Are you talking about powering your home solely on solar (i.e. no back up power source or off grid).

The power, once convered from DC to AC via the inverter, is suitable for use by the home.

Most solar application are in supplement to the current powering of the home and will spin the meter back in the day but are not the primary.

OK - that should strike Atlantic Plumbing off your vendor list !

You say female pipe to copper pipe connection - I hope you are not saying they connected copper directly to galvanized or black iron pipe. If so, there should have been a dielectric union put in there to prevent corrosion, which could be part of your problem.

Also, generally a bad idea to use teflon tape for hot water tank connections - too much thermal cycling, loosens it up over time. Should use plumbers dope for that application.

It sounds to me like a connection problem - if the tank itself was leaking it should be flooding the top of the tank or more likely running down through the insulation and dripping out the bottom.

Unless you are a do it yourselfer, sounds like you need to find a new plumber with good reviews and rating in your area - Search the List (in green banner bar). This should be an easy fix - should have him put in dielectric couplings (about $5-10 each depending on pipe size) if current connection is iron to copper, and even if not, have him redo connection not only for cold but also hot water - if one was done poorly, probably both were.

Initially I spoke with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
who later came out and worked on the monitoring system. My consult was with a young man named
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
who was very knowledgeable and best of all did not give off the "salesman" vibe. Some of the other companies sell Solar like the aluminum siding salespeople in the movie Tin Men. The more I spoke with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
the more trust I had with Mimeos and the more I found myself hoping that the pricing and product was going to be fair and solid. I had gotten answers to my many questions about Solar from other bidders who had come out, but when I asked the same questions of
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
he usually gave me simpler, better answers to those same questions. The company does more than solar and hires independents to do the work. They do have all the necessary licensing--I would check this online for any installer I plan to hire. One of the most important elements in my buying decision was to make sure that I generated enough energy to cover my entire bill for the year. When I brought up the fact that my last years energy usage might be low compared to previous years with other companies it was mostly ignored.
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
took time to look at my spreadsheet (with my previous energy totals and bills) and discuss what would work best for me. All the people who worked on the job I got to know on a first name basis--not because they were there too long--just because they were all professional and friendly. Keeping the work area clean everyday is important and they were extremely thoughtful in this regard. I was told ahead of time when workers were coming and everyone working on the project went out of the way to make sure my neighbors weren't disturbed. All the hardware went in easily and the only issue I had was with accessing the monitoring software. I switched from a static
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
to a dynamic (the system was originally set up with a static
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
and was working), so there needed to be some changes to get it working. The system was still generating energy fine, but I wasn't able to view it. Mimeos kept following up until the system was operational and functioning normally. Other companies might disappear after final payment is received, but not Mimeos. I would frequently get emails from Kaliza during the process about inspections, rebates and general updates on the entire process. Whenever I would get an email from her I sometimes thought she was even more excited about my solar project than me--just a very pleasant vibe. On occasion I spoke with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
, the owner, about certain concerns I had and he was very accommodating and took care of me as well. When I almost made the decision to hire another company I spoke to
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
and explained the situation and he worked with me on the system to get the bids closer in price. I consciously made the decision to pay a little more knowing that I wouldn't have to worry about the end result or have aggravation during the process (and I'm sure glad I did)! I highly recommend Mimeos!

The thing that attracted me to
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
is that they had been in business 30 years! Some of the other companies were barely pushing 3 years. I first spoke to a woman, was then referred to
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
, got a call from
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
who was my future contact and got an email from
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
. Since I had already got more than a few estimates at this point I wanted to make sure that they would be in the "ballpark"--I was concerned about wasting both mine and their time.
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
promised me an estimate 2-3 days later and I received it after emailing a day after that--they are obviously busy. After reviewing the estimate and speaking more with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
he felt that a site visit/measure would make the most sense. He came out a week later and revised the original estimate with hard numbers. He was, by far, the most knowledgeable and experienced person I spoke with regarding solar. It wasn't that he just knew everything (he did!) it was that he could relay the information is easy to understand plain language. He was extremely patient and pushy is not in his nature. So, why didn't I use
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
? It was the price. Although I was willing to pay a little more for the service, warm and fuzzy feeling, knowing I was getting the best gear, etc. I couldn't justify $10k more for it. I wholeheartedly recommend
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
. If you aren't looking to pinch pennies and don't want to waste time interviewing contractors that you won't end up using anyway, just go with the BEST and give them a call.

I spoke with Dapo on the 20th and was told that it would take 1-2 days to get a meeting set up. Due to a conflict I had I met with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
on the 26th. I was a bit confused because
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
seems to be the President of WorldStarSolar, but was representing/working for
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
(which seems to have independents working with them)? To be honest, I'm not sure what the exact situation is... If there is one word to describe
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
it would be "persistent." He called, emailed more than all the other companies put together. I'm not the type that gets intimidated by people, but I was starting to feel that enough was enough. Let me back up...
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
was extremely knowledgeable and presented a good system at the best price of any of the other companies. If price is the most important thing I would call him first. He wasn't tied to any particular brand of equipment and when I changed my mind about the brand of panels I wanted, he was more than happy to adjust the bid. He was always quick with an answer and if he didn't know, he'd check and then get back to me. However, I started to get the feeling that his persistence and answers involved a little bit of "fast-talking." In fact, I decided to move forward with the project, but during the contract process an issue came up with the monitoring system. It was a small issue and
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
was going to take care of it, but I just felt that the whole process was being rushed and that something else might get forgotten along the way. The project was just too expensive to not have a "good feeling" about it. In the end, I think it was just not a good personality match, so I would still consider recommending someone call
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
for an estimate.

I spoke with the receptionist(?)
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
and she transferred me to
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
(who was an intake person). After answering a few questions I was set up for an appointment with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
. Due to an emergency our first appt. needed to be re-scheduled, but the
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
was nice enough to come to my office and go over the system. The equipment recommended seemed to be high quality but the panels were lower power in comparison to other recommendations and power optimizers were recommended in order to increase efficiency. Although I thought this might make the bid more expensive, the price was actually reasonable compared to other bids I received. All my questions were answered although I didn't get the feeling that the salesperson was quite as knowledgeable as some of the others I met with. I was given a nice brochure specifically tailored to my bid that included product info, information about
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
and diagrams of the layout for my place, etc. Because I decided that I would rather stay away from power optimizers and go with fewer, higher power panels I went with another company. I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting an estimate from them--and they have been in business for ~ 8 years now.

I spoke with a woman and left my name and number. I received a callback within 30 minutes and spoke with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
. He "pre-qualified" me over the phone and recommended an outright buy over financing. He mentioned rebates and tax credits as well as talking about whether I wanted to cover my entire bill or just Tier 1. In case you don't know, on DWP's standard service has tiered pricing. The lowest rate is Tier 1 then it goes to Tier 2, etc. If you use a lot of energy then you will end up paying a higher rate. A good alternative is a plan called "time of use." You get charged higher rates during peak time, but lower off peak. Of course, you are generating solar energy during peak time (daytime), so in the long run this plan may be much better for solar users. It is possible to have a truly ZERO bill with time of use while standard plans always have at least a $10/month charge just to maintain the service. I met with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
Saturday morning. He was a wealth of information, was adamant about the company using the best panels and the best invertors. He recommended against the micro-inverters (which I found to be about 70% of the people I spoke to). Their warranty also included cleaning the panels (which none of the other companies did--although some said cleaning wasn't necessary anyway). The problems started when I started to ask about pricing. I studied mathematics in college, but soon enough I was drowning in numbers--prices, percentages, rebates, etc. I still have the papers with all the scribbling on it and I'm not sure I can make any sense of it. Some of it had to do with financing, but really he was just offering me a low wattage system that wasn't competitive with other bids I received. Clearly, I was being misjudged. He thought my concern about price meant that I wanted to spend less at any cost and this was not the case. At one point during the conversation I believe he told me that he was "still hung-over from last night..." Still, I was impressed with his knowledge and confidence. When it came down to it, the system was more expensive and did not offer the same amount of energy output that I had received from other bids. Also, I felt that he was a bit of a "hustler" so I passed.

I left a message at 11 am and received a callback at 3:30 and spoke with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
. He was very pleasant and enthusiastic and asked the standard questions: Do I own the home, do I plan to lease or buy, how did I hear about solar, etc. I set an appt. for the next evening and I received a call to confirm the evening appt. the same day of the appt. I met with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
and he was very patient and answered all my questions. I tend to be a fairly technical person, so I began asking about the equipment they use, etc. He answered most of the questions completely, but he wasn't 100% on some of the questions about the process with my electrical company. Like most of the companies they offered an electrical upgrade at a very low price ~ $1500, monitoring, etc. I soon found out that there are 3 options for inverters: micro, standard and power optimizers. Power optimizers and micro-inverters cost more and due to the fact my roof is all flat and pointed in a good direction the micro-inverters/power optimizers seemed to be a waste of money and increased the
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
of reliability issues. I felt good about the meeting and professionalism of the company but the price was so much higher than every other company that I just couldn't consider moving forward.

I made the initial call and spoke with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
--she was very friendly and took down all my information. They offer evening appointments, so I was able to get a meeting scheduled for 6:15 that evening. I received a confirmation email about 5 minutes later with the estimator's info and a request for 12 months of my energy usage. The energy bill is asked for by every company, so you might as well have a copy ready for any meeting you plan to have. My meeting was with
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
and as this was my first meet I had many questions. He had information on his laptop with a satellite photo of my roof and had planned out a possible system design. He asked some (what I learned would become) typical questions about my roof composition, where the panels would go--garage vs. roof--and my typical energy usage and plan. He asked if I planned to lease versus buy. At this point I didn't really know, so I asked about both. Solar City offers financing so they are a one-stop shop (in that respect). I recommend a sheet of questions to ask the prospective company and take copious notes, because after a point it will all start to get jumbled together.
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
explained the process and payment schedule. Overall, the consult was going very well and I liked him. Things started to change when I indicated that I would be interviewing other companies and didn't want to sign a contract that evening. He started to get more aggressive and pushy with the sales pitch. I have been a salesman for over 20 years and don't appreciate a hard-sell myself. He seemed convinced that a lease option made the most sense because the company owns the panel, takes care of their maintenance and assures a certain level of production. To me this made the least sense because the savings was the smallest, the company took the rebates instead of me and I had to sign an agreement for 20 years! don't get caught in this trap. If you decide you want to sell your house then you'll be paying for solar panels on someone else's home for the rest of the lease period! Anyway, he left in a bit after I assured him I wasn't going to sign--he kept asking me to sign a rebate agreement and threatened that I might
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
a
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
at a rebate. I confirmed that this was bullsh*t after talking directly with the DWP--they told me it was a scare tactic to get people to sign right away. In any case, I was turned off and decided that I wouldn't be using them for my solar install.
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
tried to get me to commit to a specific time when I would be making a decision--another turnoff since this was my first meeting and I was in no rush and didn't have any idea on how I would proceed at this point. He left telling me he would call back in a week to check, but he must have realized that he blew the meeting at that point and I never heard from them again.

I had scheduled a site assessment for 3 p.m. and taken the afternoon off of work to meet with their technician. I waited until 3:45 and when no one had come, I called the office to check in. The respondent was surprised that their colleague had not yet arrived and told me they would call me "right back" with more information. After another 50 min., I called again. I was concerned there had been a car accident or something and didn't want to
Parkland Solar Panel Installers Provider Name Locked
them but the same person answered the phone and made no apology when I identified myself. She said, "oh, didn't you see his email?" I had not received any email. Then she realized I hadn't been copied on it and forwarded. The technician had driven by and not gotten out of the car. He cited air vents which limit the installation space which I'd already clarified that I would be moving.
Overall, this was a very frustrating experience and waste of time. Maybe their work is good, but there's a long way to go on customer service.
