"This was my first time using
, the truck crew called and told me what time that they would be there. They went to work right away! With in" 5 minutes of opening the tank my problem was found, which was a clog. While the tank was being pumped i was was shown what I need to do to fix the clogging problem. After the tank was pumped and the lid reinstalled, the soil and the grass was placed back over the area. Work area was cleaned up to my satisfaction.

"Called
to pump my septic tank shortly after I moved in since I did not know when it had been serviced last. Prompt and professional. He" did the legwork beforehand to get my lot information at the county office, located the tank and cleaned it out in just a few hrs. He educated me on the location of everything and did a fair job covering the access holes up...not too much sod disturbed. no issues and above average service. I did have to follow him to the county office to sign for the "dump permit" but no big deal. Very happy overall and would use them again. It's a Small Business (
did the work himself with one helper) and I felt like he was honest and I got a fair price with no surprises. I plan to call him in the future when looking to relocate some septic lines to accommodate new landscaping.

How To Maintain a Septic System

A contractor describes how to properly maintain your septic system and drain field. Here are five tips to help.

Septic systems

Septic systems are commonly used in rural areas and sometimes in areas not served by a municipal sewage system. Septic systems absorb household sewage and distribute the liquid waste into a designated leach field where natural processes can reclaim it. However, solid wastes and grease must be pumped out of the septic system periodically.

For top performance, you want the landscaping over your septic system to promote drainage and prevent erosion. Grass is ideal for this purpose. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Tracy F. of Dayton, Ohio)

In almost all areas, you have to get a permit from the county or city to rebuild a septic tank or leach field - permit cost typically $150-600, though can reach $2000 in some areas for a new installation. The reason is they will then come out and inspect the installation and review the test results from the civil engineer, from whom a design and soil percolation test and construction inspection report will be required before they issue an operating permit.

If you have a question on the process, the county or city most likely has a permit requirements info sheet on their website describing the process and requirements - googel your locale name combined with a search phrase like this - leach field test

The real reason a permit is required is to be sure an engineer designs the field, that the leach field is designed to match the existing soil conditions, and that it is built to the design so hopefully it will neither break through to the surface, contaminate the groundwater, nor contaminate nearby wells or waterways, thereby creating a public nuisance and health hazard.

The reason for the initial presale infiltration capacity test you had done is to provide some assurance to the buyer that the system is likely to work as needed, at least for the forseeable future, and is based on the number of bedrooms and sometimes number of bathrooms in the house as the basis for estimating the "load" the system is likely to see. There are different tests in different locales - some use a minimal criteria of 3 or 4 gpm flow for 20 minutes, other use the more common design guide of 150gpd (gallons per day) per bedroom in the house- some prorated for a 1 hour period, some far more strict by requiring a 24 hour test. 300 gallons in 45 minutes is an extremely stringent criteria - I would check with the buyilding department that this is right, because this adds up to a rate of 9600 gallon sper day - of about 64 bedrooms worth of capacity ! I am sure I have never ever seen that strict a criteria for a residential (as opposed to resort/ hotel/ commercial) septic system, so I would check that the tester did not somewhere add a zero to the volume to be pumped or something.

Also, returning water is not a viable basis for failing the test - the proper way to conduct a test is to pump the specified amount of water, and verify that the water level at the discharge pipe has returned to the original level by the end of the specified time - usually to the invert (bottom) of the pipe, but generally a conditional or "warning" approval will be given to one that does not raise the water table above the top of the 4" discharge pipe during the test time. You might discuss this with the civil engineer before going ahead with a new leach field construction - to me it sounds like the test may have been rigged to fail,, because in-service leach fields would not take 300 gallons of water without raising the water level to the top of the pipe for a period, even though they could take that flow for an extended period ot time.

I would guess that the wrong term was used to describe your problem. What was probably meant was that the leach field was saturated. This is to say that the soil around your leach field is saturated with solids from the septic tank and you may have to have it replaced. If you do not have the tank pumped often enough this can happen as well as just aging of the system. Many people ignore the septic till there is a problem do to out of sight out of mind or the false belief they are saving money. If you have a large family you may have to have the tank pumped every 2 or three years. Some of the towns around here have passed laws to that effect to avoid such problems.

There should be no growth other than grass on your leach field - for brush, bushes or trees use the kill-all Roundup herbicide to kill off the entire plant. For roots intruding from outside the leach field, use a root killer like RootX once or twice a year - I would do two treatments a month apart initially if you have root problems. Unfortunately, just killing the roots is not going to solve the problem you currently have, because they decay extremely slowly or not at all in a leach field due to the saturated and greasy conditions - they are almost embalmed in the sludge. If you have a significant problem, you may have to kill them, then get them routed out. This can be a $500-1000 job depending on how your field is designed and how accessible the inlets of the field distribution pipes are.

The service provider arrived promptly at the pre-arranged time. Early morning service IS available. He was at the door at 7:00 a.m. Coming from Tucson to
Lithia Septic Tank Services Provider Name Locked
Vista, that was very nice to have that early option.
He pumped our older tank to the extent possible and was very willing to discuss all the aspects of septic systems and leach fields as I grilled him with 20 questions.
I understand that companies need revenue to stay in business and earn a living; however, I feel $715 was pricey. I would have been happier with $550....

bargain. My tank outlet

box was very deteriorated (unreinforced concrete) and had to be replaced with an effluent filter. Filter and installation seemed a little pricey at $850 since it only took an hour or so. I have seen effluent filters online for between 100 to 300 (filter only) so I would definitely shop around on this portion of the repair if I had it to do over again. Overall I am very happy with the service and

Fixed septic tank pipe intake. Pumped septic tank. Cleared clog. Sewage was backing up into the kitchen sink and the bathtub. This has been an issue in the past. It has been very costly over the last year. Sounds like these guys fixed what other's botched.
The technician (

I sold the house and was in a bind as my title V failed. I contacted a couple contractors and
Lithia Septic Tank Services Provider Name Locked
seem like he could handle everything. He was very forward in saying he would work with his engineer. So I felt comfortable with
Lithia Septic Tank Services Provider Name Locked
and picked him. He procrastinated on giving me a quote to the point that the lawyers for the closing then agreed to hold back 2 time the amount in escrow which
Lithia Septic Tank Services Provider Name Locked
said was going to be around $20,000. Then when we finally got the estimate it was almost $30,000. I questioned him on the charges and he was very allusive on the charges. The engineering cost were almost $4000 but neighbors that has used the same engineer said his drawings cost only $1500. So I e-mailed the engineer for his cost. It was about 15 minutes and

called me the following morning and said he couldn't do the project anymore but I owed him for the engineering drawings I still owed him. He also put a hold on at the city office saying I had not payed him for services. This all occurred in 2 days. He really had me. I couldn't proceed with another contractor until I paid his $4,000. The city wouldn't release the already approved permit to the new contractor until I had paid

We are on a well system. We had been experiencing water pressure fluctuations because the well pump was constantly cycling on and off. After some research on the internet, I thought we might have to replace the well tank (a $600-800 repair). When I called
Lithia Septic Tank Services Provider Name Locked
, the rep provided me additional troubleshooting steps over the phone. Turns out all I had to do was drain the well tank and check the air valve. Mine needed air, so I pumped in air and we are now back up and running normally. Total cost: $0.00 and about 20 minutes of my time. I really respect a company that is willing to do this. This easily could have been -- at a minimum -- a $100+ service call. The fact that they help you find the cheapest and quickest solution, even though they will not profit from it, convinces me I will call them the next time I have any water supply problems.

I don't think they are very professional. They looked me in the face and lied to me. They are big in to drilling in to the septic tank to pump. They don't understand
