Even though our job was small, really wanted our results to look great. And they did! He installed the replacement wood and molding in one morning, was friendly with our dog, and left the place very clean. We'll recommend

We are empty-nesters who have lived in this home for 22 years. 10 years ago, we had the floors routinely refinished and everything has been fine. Never had issues with the original floor or the second refinish. Nothing. No scratches, wear problems. We have always had 2 dogs. We currently have a Golden & a Cavachon.
Early last September, my wife and I came home to major water damaged wood floors in the kitchen. We had the floor professionally dried out. We also decided to have Dusty’s replace carpeting in our family room with wood. After inspecting the damaged area, Dusty said it was dry enough for him to start work. He began work the week of November 11th. After that, everything went down hill.
The floor finish was installed incorrectly - not properly cured, admittedly by Dusty. (His quote: “"sticky" residue on one of the layers.” So the floor was redone for the first time the week of Thanksgiving. As requested by Dusty, both times we kept our dogs totally off the floor and walked using socks only. He asked us to asked to stay off the floors for 1-2 weeks and no carpets for 30 days. Seemed excessive, but we did it.
After we stayed off the floor for the allotted time that Dusty asked for, we let our dogs on the floor. Everywhere they walked, it left tiny scratches. The floor looked horrible. Dusty came out quite s few times and said “Well, your dogs are very tough on your floors.” Those same dogs were on the same floors for years and we NEVER had an issue. Dusty kept telling us the floors looked so bad because of our dogs. I just couldn’t accept that answer since it was never a problem before he refinished the floors.
So he came back and redid the floors a second time again the week of January 13, 2014. This was his 3rd attempt. After the allotted time staying off the floors, we went back to trying to use our home again. But guess what? Same problems, even worse. Anything that moved on the floor left a
The floors just continued to look worse. He came by a few times to look at the floor and on March 31, brought a finish “expert.” They both just stood around looking a little confused and shaking their heads. They saw the problems, but “it was the dogs.” Not! We bought every tool and cleaning fluid he recommended and nothing worked. The floor just kept on looking getting worse every day.
So after 3 refinishings, he came out and did a professional buffing of the floor. Right after he left it looked ok, but then I noticed this his professional buffer even left
So I called him again. I never once asked for any fiscal compensation, only a good workmanship. At that point he said, “there is nothing I can do.” Basically, I’mdone with you.
So now, over the past couple of months, the hardwood flooring has started to cup. We have had no additional water damage. You can feel the floor roughness when you walk on it with your socks. And as I now inspect the floor even closer, there are places I should have noticed earlier where the new floor seams are just not right. I guess my expectations had been focused on the finish, not the actual floor.
Have I contacted him about this issue again recently? No. He basically told me there was nothing else he could do. So now I am looking at other hardwood floor refinishers to come and totally redo the floors. Would I have him come and redo the floors again if he offered? Probably not since he couldn’t get it right in over 3+ attempts. I’ll just pay up to have someone else do the floors so they will be just like the floors we had for the past 20 years.
Regarding the issue of price. Dusty’s was not the cheapest, but we went with him anyway. The “F” rating on price is because I wouldn’t have paid a nickel to get the floors we have today. Responsiveness rates an “F” because this whole issue was never resolved to our satisfaction.
The entire process was a fiasco. We were totally inconvenienced for weeks (spread out of 3 different times) in our primary living space. Why am I waiting until now to post? I am sick of waking up every morning to a floor that looks this awful. Plus my wife is extremely disappointed in the in the outcome and is not happy about spending additional money to get the floor she can feel proud of when she entertains.
I’m sure Dusty will respond to this review, but I can certainly attest to these facts, some of which are documented in email and text messages.
