"Ended up not using this provider and requested a refund (which Angie's list processed). My reason: I asked the provider what happens at the end of four hours" and the painters are not done. I was told after four hours, the painters are done. What I was interested in hearing is that the painters would provide me a time-estimate on the work I wanted done before starting the job and if the job exceeded four hours, I would pay the difference. But the provider did not seem willing to work with me.

-Laurel S.

"I had an initial problem connecting with the company - hope that issue is resolved. The painters were great, got to work early, worked continuously, stopped only" for lunch. Were very neat and cleaned up all their equipment each day. Work took two and a half days. If all their painters are as good as these guys, I'd go with them every time.

Remodeling tip: Should painting or flooring come first?

Angie Hicks responds to a member who wants to know whether interior painting should come before or after the installation of hardwood flooring.

Interior Painting

Professional decorators say painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to dramatically change the look of a room. It's also one of the more accessible do-it-yourself projects for the homeowner, though a professional interior painting company will likely do a better and more long-lasting job.

Angie's Answers

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
This is a good question.  However, the question makes the assumption that there is a paint that covers everything in 1 coat, which I don't believe is the case.  My recommendation is Benjamin Moore's Aura.  Now the fine print.  Aura will cover very well because it dries to approximately twice the thickness of other paints.  However, Aura says it will cover any color in never more than 2 coats, but there are exceptions to that as well, including some deep reds.  The main thing is the color change.  If the color you are using is within the same family of colors, you have a chance, we've also had pretty good success of grey covering over tan in 1 coat, but if you're making a major color change, don't expect any paint to cover perfectly in 1 coat.

Some other 1 coat coverage paints you could use would be Sherwin Williams Duration, and Behr Ultra Premium Plus.

Hope this helps!
Without seeing the project I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  HOWEVER, I've never heard of someone "floating" over paint blisters - just logically that can't work.  If air or moisture are trapped (because that's what causes blisters) painting over them won't fix the initial problem.

I have a couple suggestions - My first would have been to contact the paint manufacturer - whether it's sherwin williams, benjamin moore, behr, etc. to see if they would send a rep out to give their recommendation.  We have done this before starting a project to get the best possible recommendation for work to be done and have found them to be very helpful in diagnosing what is currently going on and the best way to fix it.

If that doesn't work, I would call either the better business bureau or maybe the local paper if your contractor isn't willing to work through the problem with you.  Also, If your contractor warrantied the work I might re-read that to see what they cover if anything.

My guess is that there will have to be some sort of dispute resolution process.

Hope this helps!
Yes - absolutely!  Refinishing is THE VERY BEST way to go to avoid tearing out a perfectly good bathtub that just LOOKS bad after years of use.  Go to the link below for some before and after refinishing pictures of acrylic tubs.

Interior Painting reviews in New Fairfield

Mixed results. Kitchen & dining room were fine, taped off, sandblasted & painted nicely. Bathroom, cabinets & exterior were not done particularly well. They seemed to be rushing at end of job for these locations. Bathroom surfaces were not well prepared & paint started peeling off in some areas within a month. Similar results on exterior, but it took about a year for paint to start peeling off. They did something weird with the sander on our kitchen cabinets, making them look as if they were warped and difficult to sand, and charged us extra to sand them properly. Stain was not very well applied on the cabinets. Work was done by
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
's son and one other man.

I recently had H & H Painting and
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
set and replace drywall on my kitchen ceiling and on our bathroom wall. Plus they did interior painting in several rooms of my home. They were very professional, arrived on time, completed the job as planned. My husband and I think they did an amazing job! We would highly recommend them. We plan to use H & H Painting &
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
again in the near future.

I would highly recommended Bill and his team at
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. This is our second time working with this company - at this point, they have painted the majority of the interior of our home. The first time, we had our entire downstairs painted - open floor plan with high ceilings (including living room, kitchen, hallway, dining area) and upstairs hallway/staircase. This past week, we had two bedrooms (including an accent wall) and powder room painted. Bill, the owner, has been a pleasure to work with each time. He is prompt in returning phone calls, easy to communicate with, fair with his pricing, flexible with accommodating our work schedule, and knowledgeable in paint suggestions to blend with the more contemporary style of our home. Bill is a great resource for color, as he recommended a paint color for our powder room that I would have never been drawn to on my own yet absolutely love today! I'm so glad I asked for his advice. In addition, we recently had a leak repaired in our ceiling; in an attempt to paint over the repair on our own, the color we used did not match the rest of the ceiling. I showed this to Bill during our recent consultation. Rather than suggest that we needed to repaint the entire ceiling, which would have been quite costly, Bill recommended that he mix some colors to match the rest of the ceiling. It ended up being a perfect match, and the recent repair is no longer noticeable at all. It is this integrity, knowledge and experience that allows my husband and I to fully trust the team at
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
! On each occasion, they have worked in our home without our presence; not only do they work efficiently, but they are trustworthy, polite and friendly, and leave the house in the same condition as it was when they entered. It is clear that
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
cares about the client's satisfaction, producing high quality and detailed-oriented work. I will not hesitate to call
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
for my next paint project and would absolutely recommend that anyone else do the same!
- Karri T.

New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
was always good about letting me know when he had to leave, etc.. but beyond that, communication was very poor as was his quality of work & professionalism. We met with
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
and picked out a design. I made a point to show him our old wall design and made several statements indicating we wanted it to be SUBTLE like how the our old wall was. He told me stories about how he asked one customer (because I told him that I am a big stickler on crisp lines where the wall & ceiling meet) if he could remove his toilet tank so he could make sure he was able to get behind the toilet with the design he was doing. I had also asked him if we would get flood damage again, can this design on the wall be partially done and his answer was 'yes'. I took this as him being very meticulous which was one reason I hired him but boy was I wrong! His pricing is EXTREMELY high but I was willing to pay the extra for what I thought would have been quality work. When he did a sample for us, I did state that the black in it needed to be softer and not so bold. I thought at that point that we were on the same page but found out quick that we were not! We ended up with what we call the "Madagascar wall" which did not match the design we had picked out or thought we were getting. We could see roller
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
in the job which I was able to capture with a camera, above our bathroom door was VERY poorly finished and very noticeable, blend job was very poor, and lines were very poor where wall/ceiling met. I had pointed out multiple times via email, text and showed him in person the poor quality and the response I got was one that he would have to redo the entire thing and didn't know when he would be able to redo because he was going out of town. He also said he would have to redo the entire thing because he cannot just touch up spots, which is not the same answer we got in the beginning. In a response email, he claims that I agreed the design & color matched exact, which never happened. He did hold the sample up to the wall and after 3 or more attempts, found ONE area where it was SIMILAR to the sample. I never once said or indicated that it matched exact but had stated that in that area he was holding it next to was kind of SIMILAR but still different. When I explained to him that we believed we were getting a stretched version of the sample, he made the statement that he does not feel the need to explain his samples based on industry standards but then in a different sentence stated that it is up to the customer to envision his sample in their space. After much stress and headache, we came to an agreement of $500 for a wall he knew had significant flaws and that we were going to have to paint over it. I offered, out of courtesy on my behalf, a photo of the wall painted over in which we never once set a date of when the photo was to be received. He sent us an invoice for $500 marked 'Final Invoice' in which we paid within 3 days of receiving and not anywhere on the invoice did it indicate the price was based on receiving a photo but regardless, I still had planned on sending him a photo. After he was clear that he felt he gave us what we had picked out, which we disagreed, and it was obvious we would receive the same wall but be charged $1200 more had we proceeded to let him redo it, we hired a different painter. The new painter understood the meaning of the word "subtle", charged us $590 for the same wall, doing a very nice textured design that Mr
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
would have charged well over $3k for. We were having issues getting the new painter in and had to reschedule it at least twice due to holidays or due to supplies not showing up. Even though we had been in contact with Mr.
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
on when the wall was being rescheduled, etc.. I was continually sent emails threatening a
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
on our house even though he knew the situation as to why the wall had not been painted over yet. Approximately every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks, I had an email asking for the photo and mention of putting a
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
on our house. He indicated how we had his design being displayed that wasn't paid, even though he cashed the $500 we sent for our agreement less than 2 weeks after we sent it. When I was trying to get another date scheduled with the new painter, we had already decided to primer over the wall because I had a feeling another nasty email was coming from Mr
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. Sure enough, I received another email from Mr
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
stating that I had 2 weeks to send him a photo or he would place a
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
on our house. He proceeded to say how we can either paint over the wall ourselves or hire another person to do it until our selected painter was available. In another email, he felt the need to explain what a
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
was, which I already know what it is along with timelines, instead of reading my email explaining he has no merit of putting a
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
on our house when his work WAS paid for! But again - his communication skills are not there and he didn't understand that when someone has already paid you and all you are waiting for is a photo of the wall being painted over, there is no need to harass them and threaten liens on their house! I have never in my entire life dealt with someone who plays victim when taking advantage of people like Mr
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
does. Not only was his quality of work extremely poor, but so was his professionalism & communication. I would not recommend his work to anybody. We were already going through a very stressful situation with storm damage and flood damage but then having to deal with someone like this was more stressful than the damage in itself. I don't normally send bad reviews on people but this prompted me to try and ensure others do not have to go through what we did. If I can figure out how to attach photos, I will do so. I was going to give Mr
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
an F rating but to be fair, due to his responsiveness and punctuality, I felt a D was maybe deserving. If it were solely based on the work, professionalism, & price, it would hands down be an F rating.

We have had an extremely bad experience with
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. We have found the company to be non-responsive to customer questions, lack attention detail, unable to meet deadlines, have extraordinarily high amounts of staff turnover, and they do not fulfill the promises in their advertising or warranty obligations.
After we signed the contract, the communication about our project was no longer a priority. Project managers and staff failed to return our phone calls, voicemails, or emails. We eventually had to contact the owner,
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
Green, about the issues. We have even left messages on her personal cell phone about warranty issues and we never received a response. The staff do not communicate to each other about the projects, so we had to spend a lot of time discussing the same issues constantly.
Green's team frequently installed items incorrectly and had to redo the work. We were home when they were working on a few occasions and were able to avert some of the issues. They installed a window incorrectly that had to be re-installed twice because it would not open, which is a major fire hazard. To this day, only one of the windows will open consistently. They attempted to have HVAC cords running along the entire exterior side of our home. They attempted to install an AC unit that would be used for a motel--not a residential property. They attempted to install the wrong tile. They also installed the shower incorrectly, which had to be reinstalled more than one year later because water was leaking throughout our home. Our AC unit was only 2 years old, and we planned to sell it if it was not utilized for the project. Green's team actually removed the unit from the site without permission.
We were told that our project was a
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
one and that it would take 8 weeks to complete. It actually took nearly 5 months to complete. There were weeks that went by when no one came to our home to do any work.

New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
terminated our project manager two weeks into the project. We actually would not have hired Green had we known that we would be assigned to a different project manager. We did not have a relationship with this project manager and he was not action-oriented. There is also a lot of turnover among the subcontractors they use, which negatively impacted us in the long run.
Our primary goal with this project was to support a female-owned business while also receiving high-quality work. We were persuaded to believe that the work would be guaranteed for quality and that there would be customer service 24/7 as noted on their website. This was never the case. Our HVAC unit has significant problems in our home. It was haphazardly installed and we have a number of issues that we did not discover until now. We are now able to see that the HVAC system has extreme uneven heating and cooling. There are problems that were not present until
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
remodeled our home. My infant twins' playroom gets zero heat during the winter. It registered at 20 degrees one day. Our master bathroom gets no air flow at all. I called
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
Warranty Team on December 22nd. They told me they would send a technician. The first technician came to my home on
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. 2nd, after I called them numerous times and left several emails. The technician told me that he did not understand why the original subcontractors would design the system the way they did. Green installed 4 zones in the home, which is unheard for a property of our size, according to their current technician. He told me that he had never seen an HVAC system designed liked ours and that it would take him several hours to diagnose the issue. He said he would return to work on the system after he received the work order from Green. I followed up with Green immediately. They said they would send another technician to work on the project that week. I had to leave numerous voicemails and finally got another technician to come to my home on
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. 23rd. The individual they sent had not talked to the previous technician that came to our home, so I had to do the same walk-through again and discuss the exact same issues. I called
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
to express my frustrations that no action has been taken for over a month. They told me that they would have the subcontractor call me.
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
touts itself as being a one-stop contracting service. The subcontractor called me and said their warranty only lasts one year and that we needed to call
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. I called everyone at
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
no one would return my calls. As a final resort, we contacted
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
Green on her personal cell phone and she didn't return the message. We were told that there was a 7-year warranty on all projects at
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
when we signed the contract and they have not lived up to the hype in their ads or warranty. We are very disappointed in this company's service, communication, professionalism, and quality.

This is the third time I've used
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
and they've quickly become my go-to painters.
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
are creative, thoughtful, punctual, and thorough. At this point, they work unattended in our home and, when we get home it's like they were never there (except for the new paint!). The magnetic wall was a tricky project. Our son's "artwork" doesn't stick to the stainless fridge so we needed another solution. Not wanting something too obtrusive, we decided to ask Intrinsic about magnetic paint. They did all of the research, gave us the pros and cons, and made sure the project was a success. Now, we can hang up artwork in the kitchen all over the wall and, when we remove it, it goes back to just being a wall. While the instructions recommended three coats,
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
's research quickly showed that would be an unsatisfactory result. I really appreciate the extra time he took to look into possible problems BEFORE starting the work. Highly recommended.

GREAT! From start to finish, the whole process was stress free and the final product is wonderful and exactly as promised. I couldn't be happier.
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
were a great team. Very tidy during their work and respectful of our living space while working here. I highly recommend Certa Pro Painters of the Main Line. I also praise them for their community service and the $100.00 discount just for donating a "gently worn" winter coat to their service project.

We had a very good experience with Herb and his crew. He had no problem coming out to
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
to give us an estimate right away and was very informative. He provided us with a detailed quote via email very
New Fairfield Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
after our appointment. It was a fairly extensive job and they got it done in two days which was wonderful. Everyone was very professional and polite. Both Herb and his crew were very accommodating, if we had questions they immediately addressed them. It really was one of the smoothest projects I have ever been involved in and I very much appreciate the great work and wonderful customer service. My home looks amazing and I have already receive a number of complements! Thanks!
