"I initially found Liberty by performing an internet
for local kitchen remodeling contractors. I spoke with
on a weekday" and he offered to come out to our house a night or two later and take a look at what we had in mind.
spent almost 2 hours the first night talking over our ideas, and offering several of his own. Within 2 days
generated and e-mailed a floor plan and several 3-d renderings of what we had discussed. We discussed these drawings over the phone and he made a couple modifications and re sent them. He came by the house a week later, we discussed the project further, and he them provided a third version of the drawings. At this point we had not signed a contract with him or even indicated we would definitely be working with him. At this point me and my wife felt very comfortable with what he had provided us, as well as his demeanor and professionalism; for better or worse, we decided to work with him without receiving any competing quotes (this speaks to the comfort level we had with him at this point.) The other thing that really swayed us is that
does all the work himself and he is on-site 100% of the time. He does not do he flooring (we had to go elsewhere to do that) and he does not personally do the electrical or plumbing, but he has worked with his subcontractors for 25+ years and takes full responsibility for their work. At the point we agreed to go with him he told us the first thing we needed to do was decide on the cabinets we would use as they took 3 weeks to get delivered and that was really the main thing that the schedule was dependent on. He also told us that the total job would take 4 weeks to complete. From the day we told him which cabinets we wanted we scheduled a start date 3 weeks out. The day he was scheduled to start he and his partner showed up at 8:00 am as scheduled. Any time he told us he would be at the house at a certain day or time, he met that commitment. Every milestone that he promised (cabinets complete, plumbing complete, etc.) he met. Any significant project such as this has road bumps or unforeseen obstacles. I can only think of two "significant" ones: 1. Part of our design was to knock out part of the wall to open the kitchen into the dining room more. When
did the demo work of the existing wall we discovered that the water lines and the sewage line from upstairs ran right through the wall (completely unexpected!"
said the water lines were not a big deal and it would be a small addition to have his plumber re-route them, but the sewage line would be a significant ($5,000!) expense and cause a fair delay. He was ready with an alternate solution though which amounted to use not opening the wall quite as wide and instead us being able to add an additional cabinet in that area. He was also able to get his plumber over the next day to reroute the lines and there was no schedule delay at all. 2. We had gone back and forth discussing the layout of the kitchen island and whether we wanted it to be one level, or two levels. We had ultimately decided we wanted 2 levels, but
was under the impression we had decided on a single level. The Friday before the counters were to be measured and ordered we realized that he had built the island for a single level. I called him at 6:00 pm that Friday and we discussed the issue. He calmly said it would be no problem and the counters could still be measured that Monday. He did tell me that he would need to tear out part of what he already installed and order additional parts so there might be a delay of several days, but he would get it exactly as we had discussed. At the end of the day I didn't notice any delay in the schedule at all. All-in-all, we are extremely please with our kitchen. The detail on the back splash is pretty amazing and the final product is just as we had envisioned it. The duration of the project ended up being 4 weeks and 3 days, but the kitchen was functional after 4 weeks (the final 3 days was simply touch up work.) My wife is already talking about remodeling the master bath and when the time comes we will not hesitate to call Liberty for that project as well.

-Mitchell D.

showed up when he said he would. He's always on time. He installed the grab bar and ceiling fan very easily. We absolutely love the" ceiling fan and it makes a big difference in our upstairs loft. We were on a time constraint as we had company coming to stay with us. It was important that both installations were completed by a certain date.
returns phone calls promptly and tries his best to accommodate schedules. He's very professional and does a great job!

Angie's Answers

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

You gave a good description, but without seeing some photos and maybe even the space itself it would still just be a guess.

A few years ago we replaced a significant load bearing beam to raise it up a foot in the new kitchen.  It was nearly 17' long with a new LVL beam.  For us this was pretty reasonable.  The LVL was about $250.  And maybe 12-15 2x6s, to temporarily support the ceiling joists, were probably like another $75.  The labor was $800.  There was also some finish work done afterward, but that was worked into a much bigger job for the entire floor.

Technically speaking, it is likely that you need to have something spec'd out by an engineer or architect, to calculate load, etc.  I don't know your area but in most places "a mere contractor, GC, or carpenter" is probably not allowed to just rip out a load-bearing wall without someone who is qualified to do the load calculations (which will be VERY conservative.  A brand new LVL will be VASTLY stronger than it really needs to be, but it won't be expensive.  The typical contractor will be like "hey we'll sister up two 2x12s", and not really know if that'll do the trick or not.  I'm not saying that all guys are like that, but ... it is what it is.

What you are talking about is probably at least a bit more involved and I'd love to give a good estimate but it's hard to say without a better understanding of the space.

You may be looking at $1500 - $3500?  It depends on too many specifics that we just can't know without a bunch of photos, and maybe even opening up a wall or ceiling to see exactly how temporary supports could be installed, and where the permanent beam/header could be placed and properly supported.  Your span isn't all that big so if at all possible I would do it without columns - it'll be much nicer.

If I were you I would first have a quick consultation with a "professional engineer".  They are qualified to calculate load etc - and cost a lot less than a full architect.  In my experience, an engineer just wants to provide a quick, proper solution without a lot of extra BS.  My experience with architects has been less than favorable.  Too much drama and expense and he actually spec'd things wrong and my carpenter had to pick up on it.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.  Good luck!!!

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Remodeling reviews in Brookfield

From our very first appointment, I felt that Zohar really understood what I wanted. During our initial discussion, Zohar’s
expertise in designing helped me to visualize a kitchen which would have more counter space and cabinet space than I had imagined was possible. Zohar also had great ideas for the backsplash, cabinetry, and granite countertops, which helped us build a beautiful kitchen for a reasonable price.
Within a few days of our meeting, 3-D plans for the kitchen were emailed to us and soon after, the contract was signed.
The planned construction was to take about four weeks.
During the construction, our contact person was

. I cannot say enough positive things about her. She took care of any changes that were needed, handled communication and scheduling, and was always friendly and positive during any conversations we had. I hope the company realizes what a gem they have in this super woman.

headed up the team of workers who were some of the hardest-working men I have ever seen. They were knowledgeable and very good at everything they did, from the demolition of the old kitchen to the installation of the new cabinets, from the precision cutting and installation of the granite and the tile backsplash, to the painting of the walls and the
finishing touches….everything was well done. Between them, they did everything that was needed to complete our beautiful kitchen.
We are thrilled with our kitchen and would use

This was a relatively small job, but I felt like I had their full attention even though I knew they had other projects going in our neighborhood. All went smoothly. They moved a wall, creating space for a shower, extended water and drain lines, framed and tiled the shower. Once they started, they were on-site every weekday until the project was finished. I am very happy with the result.

for an estimate to have kitchen cabinets refaced, new counter top installed, new sink, faucet, cabinet hardware, and new corner cabinet hinged door with new lazy-

shelving done. Appointment scheduled and the owner arrived at scheduled time. Very thorough in explaining what would be done, time frame anticipated to complete job and I believe he wrote up an estimate that day. Answered all questions I had. Offered suggestions, not pushy. Left samples to decide what stain colors and styles for cabinet doors I could choose from, along with samples and information on counter tops available. No pressure sale what so ever. I chose to purchase the hardware for the cabinet doors, they put them on the doors Owner is very professional, personable and discussed that this is a family owned business. No sub-contractors. Once I decided to go with this company, and decided on style/color preferences, scheduled appointment to begin work. I work days and was not able to be home at time of installation. The owner explained his son and I believe son-in-law, (which were both very pleasant and knowledgeable), would be doing the work but he would be checking the work as it was being done. I felt very comfortable allowing them to work in my house without me having to be there. They completed the work, I believe it was within 3-4 days, the time frame that was discussed. They cleaned up everything each day, and other than not having use of the kitchen for a couple of days, I was very pleasantly surprised at how well everything turned out. They did an excellent job and would recommend their work highly!

The project was a remodel of bathroom which included framing, drywall, electrical, new plumbing work, tile work; glass work, new medicine cabinet, cabinets, new countertop, and new bathroom fixtures. This was a very high end remodel with high end fixtures and tile and counters. They did an incredible job and the bath looks like a $25000 remodel!

I will recommend him to all my friends and will use them again.

My husband and I had recently purchased a home and we wanted to completely tear it down and make it our own.. We knew that this would be way out of our budget and the whole remodeling process would take longer than expected. A friend of ours recommended

This is a design/build firm, and they probably try to save money by not having someone fully plan out the project. Instead, they work on the macro-level plans with the client, but then the details seem to be implemented as they go and without consultation with the owner. For example, they might install electric outlets or lights wherever they think it would work best, but don't consult to see if the placement works for you. Then they get mad if you want to change it and charge you for redoing the work. Typically, when working with an architect, all of those details would be planned or at least discussed with the owners, and then the owners can weigh in during construction before everything is finalized. With IKB, it seems like if you are not there every day, or multiple times a day, decisions are made and implemented before you are ever consulted. The owner isn't nice about it either. They are also not detail-oriented - outlets are not totally flush with the wall, cabinet doors are not fully aligned and squared, and they generally are obnoxious about fixing the "little things."
We also had some issues with small leaks and things after the job was done, but they don't warranty their work.
