"We had an emergency! One of the supports in our basement had come out at an angle, and was no longer providing any support to the main beam. All the supports had sunk into the basement" floor anywhere from 1/2 an inch to two inches. We were in
of a collapse, and possibly the loss of the house. I contacted
with my problem and they were very quick to respond. I received a call from them within hours, and was able to setup someone to come out to look at the problem within days (I submitted my problem on Friday, and
who does the scheduling, had someone out on the following Wednesday).
came out, and was able to give me an estimate on the spot that came within a few hundred dollars of the actual contract I signed. He answered all my questions, and I was impressed with his knowledge. He pointed out to me that the main beam had twisted, but they would be able to anchor the support in that area with a custom fit if necessary to compensate for the twisting. He originally quoted me a price to replace only the supports and pour new footings. When I looked at the way the main beam had twisted I asked him how much it would be to replace the beam at the same time, and if he thought it would be smart to replace the beam as well. Our house is approximately 100 years old, so being that the beam twisted, and it was only a few thousand more to replace the old beam with steel, we both agreed it was probably for the best to replace the beam at the same time. They worked with me to fit me in their schedule as soon as possible. The city had found out about the problem and had deemed the house unfit to live in until the problem was fixed so I was spending money on a hotel waiting for the work to be done. When
found out that I wasn't living in the house because the city considered it unsafe, and I had to pay for a hotel, they offered to bring in the shoring equipment early so I could get back into the house. After they shored up the house we were able to talk to the city, and get back in the house (no more hotel expenses!). We scheduled the job for about two weeks out, waiting for the permit to be processed. Then the day I finally got the permit from the city, on Friday (a week earlier than anticipated),
surprised me by calling me and saying that since I had the permit they would start the work on Monday (a week earlier than planned). We needed the work done as soon as possible, just for peace of mind, if nothing else, so I really appreciated them getting in there and starting the work earlier than planned. They really care about their customers, and do a great job of keeping in communication with you, and updating you on the process all the way through, and always trying to address your concerns. Now to the actual work. They had come out a week and a half before to shore up the house so we could move back in, and so that once they began the actual work they could take out the old supports and begin installing all new ones, including installing a new main beam made of steel instead of wood. They arrived promptly on Monday and started pulling out the old supports, and prepping for the pouring of the footings by cutting the slab where the new footings would be poured, and prepping that area for pouring the cement. At this point, it was time for the city inspector to come out and make sure the footings were up to spec. When the inspector came out he said, "This is fine work. The shoring is exactly what I like to see. They are using all the proper equipment. These footings are perfect. They are definitely ready to pour. This is really great work!" I let
know about the comments the inspector had made and he said to go ahead and schedule the inspector to come out on Friday afternoon, because they should be done pouring the footings by then, and be ready for a final inspection.
and his crew came back on Thursday and finished installing the steel main beam, and attaching the steal columns (supports) so they could pour the footings the next day. They came back on Friday and poured the footings, and made sure the new steel columns were aligned properly with the newly poured footings, and said they would be back on Tuesday or Wednesday of the next week after the cement had set. I wasn't able to get the city inspector out until the following Monday, but when he came and saw the work they had done, he said, "This is great work! They did a fine job. This is some of the best work I've ever seen." Needless to say the work passed inspection and the inspector wrote "Work Complete" on the permit.
and his crew came back on Wednesday to check everything out, and make sure all the connections between the main beam and the steel columns were thoroughly tightened, and that the temporary shoring could now be removed. They removed the temporary shoring and cleaned up the entire area, before thanking me for letting them do the work, and heading out, job well done. They worked with me every step of the way to get this done as soon as possible. They are great at addressing their customer's needs, and truly go above and beyond, and I really appreciate that, and would recommend them to anyone.

is a consummate professional. Punctual, courteous, and thorough, he answered all my questions thoroughly. I received the official report the same day he did" the inspection. I went with one of the companies he recommended for the foundation repair, and he worked closely with them, even shifting his schedule when the lift was completed ahead of schedule. At no point did he make me feel like I was asking too many questions. If you're staring at cracks in you walls like I was, give
a call. Even if the news isn't great, he will give you peace of mind by letting you know how bad the problem is (or isn't) and what to do about it.

was able to quickly access the situation which involved a crack in the lintel of my 100-year-old home where a car had long ago hit my house (the crack had recently" opened up a bit). It was quite a relief to learn that all my house needs is to have the basement window beneath the lintel filled in with concrete block to prevent any further movement, and that the stone and mortar foundation should be rebuilt on the inside where it has begun to deteriorate beneath the window..

Structural Engineering reviews in Westminster

Worth every penny.
We purchased our house a little over a year ago. At the time of inspection, there were some issues with the chimney and the fireplace/firebox that were addressed and fixed by the owner before we finalized our purchase.
Several weeks ago, we noticed new cracks and issues with the fireplace and some cracks in drywall on either side of the fireplace. We called the company who had done work several years ago to stabilize the chimney for the previous owner. They came to our home, assessed the situation, and then delivered a subtle yet pointed sales pitch based a bit on fear.
We wanted a structural engineer to visit our home to review the fireplace, the chimney, the cracks in some of the drywall, etc. and give us an unbiased opinion. We saw

's high rating, and we liked his
Westminster Structural Engineers Provider Name Locked
, logical replies to the few less-than-stellar reviews. He made very valid points. We noted that NO ONE seemed to take issue with his knowledge or work ethic.
Westminster Structural Engineers Provider Name Locked
was also recommended to us by two realtors who have used him to inspect foundations, etc. for buyers.
Westminster Structural Engineers Provider Name Locked
was on time. He was friendly, had a warm sense of humor and was very easy to understand. He spent 3 hours examining our property, looking at the crawlspace and chimney/firebox, taking measurements and answering every one of my 6,547 questions with great patience. His knowledge about the Portland area and our neighborhood in particular was very impressive. He noted that the "fix" suggested by the other company would not likely be a suitable one over time based on the
Westminster Structural Engineers Provider Name Locked
they would use and the type of soil in our neighborhood. He gave us some very practical advice, and when we asked (only when we asked), he referred us to some tradesman who could help us with some necessary projects.
We have two large, rather obnoxious dog who, although crated during
Westminster Structural Engineers Provider Name Locked
's visit, barked at him with ferocious intensity any time he walked by them.
Westminster Structural Engineers Provider Name Locked
was very kind to them and didn't seem bothered at all.
Based on this visit, we are considering hiring

to do some seismic retrofitting on our house.

The order was placed on 6/14/14 including my 10 % downpayment.
It took over 4 weeks for the installers from their Colusa California office to arrive to do the install. They arrived on 7/17/14 with several wrong parts. The frame rails were the wrong guage steel, weaker 14 gauge instead of the stronger 12 guage on the order. The bottom frame rails were 1 & 1/2 feet shorter than called for in the order. So they left without assembling any parts to the dock.
They returned on 7/24/14 and assembled most of the dock cover, but were missing two of the three "open end supports", that were also listed on the order. The side sheet metal panels were 18 inches shorter than specified on the order. I talked to their distributer the same day, but they could only tell me they would get back to me on date they will return.
The next day, I spoke to the local dealer about the latest problem and explained that due to a long vacation, the installer could return in the first half of September. Their Colusa office called and scheduled the final work for the afternoon of 9/19/14. They couldn't make that date, so rescheduled for the next day on saturday 9/20/14 when they did arrive to complete the job and did it correctly per the order.
Please note: the local independent dealer, did a fine job. Without his help, the job still wouldn't be completed or even done per the order.

came out within a week and evaluated the property in a single visit. Pointed out a number of things but especially a couple important details about improvements we could make. We followed his improvement suggestions and upon removal of a brick patio struck paydirt, finding a large hole under an old concrete walk against our foundation. There was no way to see the hole under the brick and there were no signs of standing water against the house.
Was worth every penny to make sure we spent money only on those activities that would address the problem. We feel like we spent money on the right things as a result of our consultation and saved $10,000 from those that might dig up our basement so we could be more effective at NOT solving our problem.

I requested to schedule an appointment with this person twice. It have been two weeks, and this person hasn't extended me the courtesy of responding. This is disappointing behavior after reading his good reviews
- Robin B.

It did not go well. The engineer was unwilling to commit himself as to whether he judged the wall to be structurally sound as it stood. He was also unwilling to commit himself as to whether his recommendation for excavation, followed by replacement of existing waterproofing material as well as replacement of gravel-encased foundation drains, were likely to mitigate any potential future problems. Try as we might, we could not elicit straightforward answers to straightforward questions.
