I purchased a new toilet (
compliant, etc.) online and found handyman
on Angies List to install it. He was available in just a few days, and arrived right on time. He is very knowledgeable and has installed a lot of toilets. He was at our house for just an hour, and charged $50 since I had partially disassembled the old toilet. He also disposed of the old toilet.

was a nice enough fellow and had an explanation, but punctuality was not up to par. I have a feeling based on other reviews that his expertise just
in other areas. However, in my case, this 'handyman for the day' deal did not go well. I have learned a very good lesson and that is to not have a handyman attempt to do a plumber's work. As the plumber who had to come to my house afterward pointed out, if a handyman was really qualified to be a plumber, he'd be a plumber because that pays better. Same motto applies to electrician, etc. I suppose.
I have hesitated to write this review because I want to be honest, but also I don't want to be unfair.
was a nice guy who wanted to do a good job. To be fair,
replaced cartridges in the faucets of one of our bathtubs just fine and I was pleased with that work. He also repaired/replaced our outside faucet which wasn't working correctly and that was good except he didn't replace the caulk where the fixture met the siding of the house and left it open so that bugs could get in so that was a disappointment.
Where it really went wrong is when he attempted to repair the leaky tub faucet in another bathroom. This is a tub faucet coming out of the wall. Our home was built in 89 and it's an original (older) faucet. In attempting to take out the faucet, he twisted some parts (I forget the terminology) in the valve assembly behind the wall and ended up causing a major leak. It was either turn off the water to our house or have him cut the pipes to the valve assembly and seal them off so that we could have water elsewhere in the house, just not in that tub/shower, until we could get it fixed.
indicated that this 'would have happened to anyone' who had attempted to take out this faucet and quoted a price to put in a whole new valve assembly around 4 hundred as I recall. At this point, I am realizing my mistake and doubting that I should have asked a handyman to work on plumbing concerns. I had him cut a big hole in the wall on the opposite side of the shower (since the wall in the tub/shower was tiled, of course) in our guest room so that he could cut the pipes and seal them off so the leak would stop and we could have the water on in the rest of the house. And then I called a plumber we've used before and trust.
The plumber could see the tool markings on the old faucet parts, etc. and indicated that it was obvious that the handyman didn't know how to properly remove that type of faucet and damaged the valve assembly. So apparently it would not have 'happened to anyone' although, again, I shouldn't have asked him to do a plumber's job, so that was my fault. The plumber replaced the valve assembly and put in a whole new faucet for just over 3 hundred, so I felt
's quote was a bit high, especially since he's not a qualified plumber. However, maybe he was giving me a quote for replacing the drywall that was cut out in the bedroom and patching it back up again, I don't recall? Patching the wall was not included in the plumber's service, but we were able to patch the wall back up just fine ourselves.
Sadly, we discovered during the course of this whole experience that our whole house warranty (we have Blue Ribbon) would have taken care of the whole thing at no charge to us if we had called them instead. I had recalled that they didn't cover faucets and I didn't think to double-check our policy or just call them before the handyman visit. Blue Ribbon doesn't cover bathroom & kitchen faucets generally, but tub/shower faucets that go directly into the wall ARE covered because of just this thing. You live, you
hundreds of dollars, you learn.
Lastly, we had an unsightly trim situation on the corner of our house near our front door that occurred because we had our front steps mudjacked and the rising concrete pushed up a piece of adjacent trim and caused it to separate from the siding and corner, cracking the surrounding caulk, etc.
looked it over and recommended taking the piece of trim out and trimming it down a bit so it would fit better, then putting it back and recaulking around it. I thought that sounded good, and didn't necessarily understand that it wasn't warm enough to caulk around the trim piece right away. So he did take it out and trim it and put it back. However, taking it out created holes in the wood so when he put it back he had to patch the holes with something so we had white spots on our blue trim piece and then I heard it was too cold to caulk around it and paint those white patched spots. So the trim issue looked worse than before - although I'm sure that what he did probably did need to happen - and stayed that way for months (it still is that way, honestly, but since we're having the whole house painted soon, we left it alone) and if I had known that going in, I would have left it the way it had been before.
All in all, it was a good learning opportunity for me, because it's really quite a bit my own fault that these things occurred and I know now better questions to ask and how to make sure expectations are understood before work is performed and making sure I have the right qualifications in a person for the specific work to be performed. I feel that if I had just asked
to do some carpentry work or something more in his skill set, I would have been pleased with his work.

did a wonderful job. He came when he said he would or called if he thought the weather would not cooperate with the work that he needed to do that day. He worked steadily over the course of more than 3 weeks during the month of May, 2014, on evenings and weekends. The largest project was to build us a new patio, which took up most of this time.
This new flagstone patio is really pretty! Before he could begin to make the patio

had to dig up and remove quite a bit of cement that had originally been the foundations for a garden fence and shed. There was also a sloping cement walkway that he had to break up and remove. The project involved a lot of regrading of the area to get it level and now the patio looks like it was always meant to be there. He had to haul in the dirt to accomplish this. I purchased the flagstone and had it delivered but he moved the stones around to create a nice composition. Then he set the flagstones in a sand foundation.
We also had an oak tree that, due to a severe iron deficiency, needed to be removed. The tree was about 6-8 inches in diameter at the stump.

cut the tree down, hauled it away, and removed the stump with a chipper. He did a great job with that, too, completing this project in less than an hour's time.
Finally, we had some flower beds that needed to be prepared for a completely new planting. Altogether, the beds totalled over 70 linear feet and they are about 3 feet deep.

This is the 2nd time that I have contacted Colt and will continue to do so for all of my projects that I can't handle. He does a fantastic job and is very fair in his pricing. He even cleans up after himself and has a great sense of humor. That is a nice trait when you invite someone you don't know into your home.

Terrific! Very quick call back initially, measurements taken that same week. About two weeks later the door arrived and they were able to quickly install. It took just a couple of hours and now we have a great bathroom door. I will certainly use

was very prompt getting back to me when first contacted. We had a bit of a misunderstanding about the days the work could be done (that was more than likely my issue). Once we cleared up the dates, he came prepared, on time and got most of the items completed. There were a few things he couldn't finish that day due to time constraints (these items weren't priority on my list and we'll schedule those later). His work was excellent, he is professional, knowledgeable gave me plenty of options on certain items on my list, and his referral for a garage door service/repair person was fantastic! He knows his limitations and is very honest about that which is appreciated. I sent a "list" of items prior to his first visit which made that go very smooth for planning purposes. I am very pleased to have him available for those things I just cannot do! His pricing only got a "B" due to an item that needed to be purchased prior to his visit, otherwise he's very reasonable.

is simply great to work with. He made sure we had a functional kitchen (sink,

took them with a smile. His work was impeccable to the last detail.
Highly recommended, and we're in line for him to give our master bath a thorough face lift later this spring (2014).
