"Had a job done in my house 24 months ago part of which was to make kitchen cabinet doors to match existing cabinetry. He finished the last job well but neglected" to complete the doors. Fast forward to
2014, I requested another job and it took 6 months to get a response and after one appointment, never saw him again. Unfortunately, he wouldn't just tell me he didn't want the job.

"Though the work hasn't been contracted I was very happy with his professionalism. If I decide to have the work completed I will definitely call this contractor.

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

http://indigochreblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/img_0835.jpg

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

I am not sure a general handyman is the right person for the skylight.  We fix quite a few skylights that were installed by handymen and that could be the problem at its origination.  You will want a roofer for that.

As long as you are splitting the trades at that point, might as well get a flooring contractor to look at the floor once you have figured out the skylight repair/replacement equation.

We don't have a big house, but this was a big job! Bottom line is that
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
and his team (
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was the only other person at our house throughout the entire project, but
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
brought two other guys for a couple of days during the first week of work) are great to work with. And they do great work. It turned out that hanging the new room doors in our 1970's-built house was quite the challenge.
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
and
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
worked together on most doors for several hours each. They didn't stop until they got them exactly right. And I mean EXACTLY right - all open and close easily and smoothly. I'd be willing to guess that there aren't many teams out there that would have been as persistent as they were. The closet doors (at least some of them) presented some challenges as well. And again, the finished product is done well. The baseboard and trim looks great.
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
missed a bit when estimating how long our job would take, so we ended up paying more than the original estimate. I was OK with this for a couple of reasons: i) I was home the entire time they were working, and I know they worked hard, very hard each day; and ii) the high quality of the finished product was worth the extra cost.
We have already scheduled
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
for another small job and will definitely contact him when we get ready to tackle a couple of other bigger jobs on our list. He is booking several months out, I think. But if you aren't in a big hurry and can work with his schedule, think about doing that. You'll definitely be happy with his work.

I received a detailed estimate of cost by rooms. I felt at ease and sensed his knowledge of what I wanted done.
I am not ready to start the job just yet. I felt the price was competitive, better than others and do intend to hire when ready.
Thanks for taking your time to come the distance.

Called this service to help hang an Elk and get a quote for a closet remodel. Last message I received from him was on the 25th telling me he would be there on Saturday the 29th around 9am. No show, not even a call or text. Wasted half my Saturday waiting on this guy. Really can't believe people in the service industry are like this.

We recently purchased a home in
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
County, Virginia. The home inspection did not
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
any significant structural issues; however, during one of the most significant summer storms of 2015, we suffered water damage. Our Google
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
identified
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
Services as our best choice for water leak detection and repair. We immediately contacted
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
and spoke directly to the owner, Rod Heiston. In retrospect, I wish I had known about and leveraged
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
’s multi-master home inspection service to assess our home more thoroughly. Rod’s company,
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
, does top-quality work. They quickly discovered the sources and extent of our water leak. In the process, they deliberately minimized demolition so the reconstruction would be as quick and cost-effective as possible. They also detected some mold and performed mold remediation. They employed their own expertise in carpentry, roofing, siding, insulation, drywall, flooring, and painting to waterproof and repair our home. Like a dog on a bone, they stayed with the project until its completion. Their repairs have withstood the test of several subsequent storms.
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
communicates well. During the process, they clarified the terms, including cost for labor and material, on a daily basis. They responded quickly to calls, texts, and e-mails and patiently explained plans and processes in a manner that even a non-expert could understand. They also advocated with a third-party adjuster and our insurance company on our behalf.
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
pays meticulous attention to detail. Throughout the process of demolition and reconstruction, they carefully protected our home and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves.

Door sweep/weather stripping added to the front door appeared great. Upon use, I noted that the stripping was not tight against the door nearest the hinge side. Inspection uncovered that the two screws nearest the hinge side of the door were not actually screwed into the door at all. I had to drill a pilot hole through the stripping and the door, find a screw that fit and attach the back end of the stripping myself.
The door sweep/weather stripping added to a door between the garage and the backyard had a very large gap to fill. Herb showed me, after performing the installation, that he was not able to make a solid seal because of a dip in the grading of the concrete AND the over 1 inch gap there to start with. I ran down to Home Depot and bought a roll of sponge rubber weather strip (under $5) and sealed the gap with no issue. Took 2 minutes, actually less. He measured the door and gap before going for his supply run and should have purchased what was needed to complete the job. Once he saw his plan did not work, he should have gone back to buy what was required to finish it right. The additional stripping is sponge and rubber and will eventually need replacing, but that's fine. It's maintenance.
I tried the bathroom sink handle and it was tightened beautifully. I made the mistake of assuming the same for the sink faucet. After my discovery of the issue with the door sweep, I went to check all he had done, which is when I discovered the sink faucet had not been tightened at all.
Herb was easy to reach by telephone and came precisely on time, but given the quality of the 'finished' work, pretty unimpressive overall. I think there's no doubt he has the skill to have completed each job successfully, but for whatever reason, he did not. I had to go behind each job and finish it properly. I'm a bookkeeper not a handyman/woman, that's why my sink needed attention to begin with. What's the point of hiring a professional if I have to get on my hands and knees. That's what I wanted to avoid. Price would have been fair had the jobs been actually finished.

The first man came and installed one toilet and cracked the floor tiles. We found that when he installed it, it wasn't installed properly and so when we flushed, it ran downstairs into our basement. They sent a plumber after the owner didn't believe us that we must have done something. That was all settled, and we decided to give them another try as the plumber they sent was from Heaven!! We had them install some doors. But they didn't get it all done as he didn't put the men on so they could finish our jobs we needed done. They came back, installing the two fans we needed and then had to go out on other jobs. This was the end. We had our fill of Heaven! One month after they installed the kitchen fan, it is coming off the ceiling!!! AND the cracks in the flooring are still there! No reply from Mr.
Cortez Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
on either..... NEVER again will we have these people and we won't give a good recommendation for them! don't let their name fool you!! They are NOT!
