"We are installing a solar system at our home. I initially used Angie's List to select prospective bidders, and chose 3 to present bids.
" was the third.
showed up promptly at the agreed upon time, but that is the only category I can give acceptable
to. The presentation was extremely thin, there was uncertainty on his part as to the number of panels he was quoting, he never discussed the electronics (inverter, my existing fuse panel, locations of panels/equipment, etc). He spent more time telling me how much he liked East
. He also insisted that I could get a tax credit for 30% of the cost of my new asphalt roof just because I was also installing a solar system. Absolutely false. I was not impressed. The kicker came the next day when I emailed
to thank him for his time, however we had narrowed our selection to the 2 other vendors. Even after that I received 4 more emails from him. I had previously sent an email directly to
informing them of my opinion of the bid process, so they are certainly aware. If my experience is representative of
, I fail to see how they have received so many glowing reviews.

"Installation of solar panels began on
10, 2015 and was completed professionally in 2.5 days. It appears to have been done well. Unfortunately," to date (7 weeks), there has not been any further follow-up as to when it will be inspected by the town and local electric company so that it can be turned on. Meanwhile, the best time to save on solar energy (summer months) is nearly over. The entire process began in the fall of 2014 and to my disappointment, there have been other extended periods where the company has not initiated contact with the customer until it was time for the next step. This lack of contact includes telephone, email, snail mail, text and computer generated. When I have called them in frustration, they have been very responsive and solicitous. However, the major decision and major expense of installing solar energy creates consumer anxiety for me, especially with all the promises of how much money you will save. The lack of contact and handholding in any format during these gaps, even to say things are in process or I haven't been forgotten, is disturbing to me. I have expressed my dismay over these gaps several times. Of course, whomever I speak to says they understand and will pass my concerns over what I view as poor customer service on. Yet, nothing seems to change. Also, there is no point person identified for me to contact. First, there was a salesperson, then a designer, then someone else and so on. The process would be much better if one employee was the "go to" person throughout the process. Due to these delays and frustrations, I am unable to comment as to whether
is a cost effective, responsible solar energy resource. They certainly need to learn something about customer service. It will be interesting to see how
responds to this posting. It's too bad it came to this.

How to Hire a Solar Panel Installer

Choosing the right installer for your 25- to 30-year solar investment is an important decision.

3 types of solar panels: pros and cons

Are you confused about how solar panels work? Manufacturers produce three general types of panels, with variances that affect efficiency and performance. Find out how the three types differ, and which might work best.

Are you talking about powering your home solely on solar (i.e. no back up power source or off grid).

The power, once convered from DC to AC via the inverter, is suitable for use by the home.

Most solar application are in supplement to the current powering of the home and will spin the meter back in the day but are not the primary.

OK - that should strike Atlantic Plumbing off your vendor list !

You say female pipe to copper pipe connection - I hope you are not saying they connected copper directly to galvanized or black iron pipe. If so, there should have been a dielectric union put in there to prevent corrosion, which could be part of your problem.

Also, generally a bad idea to use teflon tape for hot water tank connections - too much thermal cycling, loosens it up over time. Should use plumbers dope for that application.

It sounds to me like a connection problem - if the tank itself was leaking it should be flooding the top of the tank or more likely running down through the insulation and dripping out the bottom.

Unless you are a do it yourselfer, sounds like you need to find a new plumber with good reviews and rating in your area - Search the List (in green banner bar). This should be an easy fix - should have him put in dielectric couplings (about $5-10 each depending on pipe size) if current connection is iron to copper, and even if not, have him redo connection not only for cold but also hot water - if one was done poorly, probably both were.

Sales process was great, but the communication afterwards was absolutely pitiful. There were a few follow-up emails and then everything went to pot. I had Y.E.S. do Solar panels, service panel upgrade, whole house fan, solar attic fans and radiant
Colorado Springs Solar Panel Companies Provider Name Locked
. No one ever explained to me that some of these tasks were going to sub-contractors. So when people started calling to schedule appointments, it was awhile before I realized I was talking to different companies. The first appointment for the installation of the fans was scheduled for a Monday, and then they called and said they couldn’t do Monday but they could do that Sunday, so I left a voicemail saying that would be fine. I came back from vacation early to be there for the Sunday install and no one showed up. I had another appointment for a solar panels for that Tuesday, come Tuesday no-one ever showed up for that. Turns out these were all miscommunications. So, now I’m furious. Everyone I’ve talked to has been accommodating and apologetic, I was told the CEO would call me and try to make things right. I also asked questions and learned how the whole process was going to work, which parts of the job subcontractors were working on and how the whole service panel upgrade would work between the electrician, the city and PG&E. There should have been one project manager who explained all this to me from the beginning. Later I get an email from another employee saying she has notes in the file to make sure I am notified of all scheduling activities. A week later I replied to that email, asking if there were any updates to my scheduling. No response. The following morning my power goes off. I go outside and see the PG&E guy and an electrician. I asked them if this was a scheduled outage, they said yes. I asked them if it was an outage for my service panel upgrade, they said yes. SO, my service panel upgrade, which ended up being nearly a 7 hour power outage thanks to the city inspector. Was scheduled and I was never informed. NOT a happy camper. I called and complained again. A day or so later I did get a call from someone higher up in the company, who offered to upgrade my solar panels at no additional cost. This was a decent attempt to placate me, but I declined because what they were offering was from a different manufacturer, and I had been sold on the panels I chose because they were designed better, and was told they had better output. My solar install was scheduled for 2 days. The first day went without a hitch. The second day, the guys ran some wire and then waited for word on the solar panels. Turns out my panels and some other equipment got sent to the wrong location. So the rest of that install will need to be rescheduled. The next day my whole house fan, radiant
Colorado Springs Solar Panel Companies Provider Name Locked
, and attic fan installation was scheduled. When the contractor shows up I find out he doesn’t install radiant
Colorado Springs Solar Panel Companies Provider Name Locked
and isn’t sure why that was on his list. Then he comes back from a trip to my attic and tells me the fan I was sold will not fit because of the way my attic is designed. As I am writing this review, my installations have not been completed. Anyone I talk to at this company is nice enough, but all of these screw ups and poor communication is absolutely unbelievable. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. This just is my experience and maybe I’m that one super unlucky customer, but considering all that has gone wrong so far, I cannot recommend this company. It’s just not worth the headaches. If it is possible I will update this review after everything is completed. There’s still time for them to make me a happier customer.

I didn't want the numerous discounted electric bill programs many vendors are offering. I wanted to own outright and have install panels.
Colorado Springs Solar Panel Companies Provider Name Locked
guided the entire process thru all the registration and permitting process to completion. I am now receiving my own SREC distributions and have a zero monthly electric bill , in fact I assign my excess to my Mother's account and her bill is now zero.
I expect to have the entire system paid off within 4 1/2 to 5 years with Federal and state solar credits, SREC distribution and no electric bill plus I provide free electricity for Mom.

The 'inspection' turned into them trying to pressure me into purchasing a solar attic fan, and an $11,000 solar water heater that would save costs on my utilities. I did not want to go through with this because no matter how much I would save on my utility bill, I am paying $11,000 which is not near the savings. I felt very pressured as the rep was acting pushy, and inside my own home. When I cancelled the deal and did not want to pay anything, the rep became rude, unprofessional, and even yelled at me. Beware!

I had my system installed by Solar Systems about nine years ago. When I called them for a price I thought they were high so I shopped around. I'm glad I did. Everyone I dealt with was very professional and friendly. They worked with me on the price and I saved about $50.00. They showed up on time and did a Great Job.

They did an excellent job on the installation. They got the permit from the city from us and handled all of the other details. And everything is working beautifully.

This was a scary purchase for me, since solar electric systems are pretty complex (so I wanted to make sure you get somebody who knew what they're doing, rather than learning on my house) but are also pretty new (so I couldn't just get recommendations from neighbors). I signed up with
Colorado Springs Solar Panel Companies Provider Name Locked
through a town-wide program, figuring the town sponsorship provided some assurance. The installation went very smoothly, in part because
Colorado Springs Solar Panel Companies Provider Name Locked
seemed to do very detailed design work in advance and in part because the installation crew was very capable of figuring out the remaining issues. Their workmanship exceeded expectations -- their wiring was some of the neatest I've ever seen, and when they had to make holes in walls they patched things up so cleanly I could barely tell they'd been there. I was worried about roof leaks, but they sealed things very well, and we didn't have any problems through the horrible New England snow and ice storms of 2015. The documentation binder they provided with the system was terrific, and they took care of all the registrations I needed to qualify for various credits. The system has been up and running for a year and a half now, and it has been producing more than
Colorado Springs Solar Panel Companies Provider Name Locked
estimated, which has been a pleasant surprise. On a couple of occasions I've contacted them with follow-up questions and they've been super responsive. Bottom line: This was a scary project, but it turned out to be remarkably painless and the results have exceeded expectations.

After installation, the cost of my electricity would have been 40% higher than I was paying PG&E. Due to the cost of the solar equipment and that I would still would have a substantial power bill from the electric company. What they wanted to install would not cover my usage.
