Business Description: I'm a self-employed clinical psychologist (Ph.D.). I've practiced in Stockton for 25 years. I'm certified as highly competent above and beyond licensing requirements by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and the American Board of Professional Psychology. You can check their websites for more details. The California Board of Psychology will verify my license.
Most primary care physicians in the greater Stockton area have heard of me and will likely recommend me. More than 10,000 satisfied former clients live in the greater Stockton area. Ask your friends and neighbors.
If you think you might need psychiatric medication, I can offer advise you, help you make the right decision, and, if necessary call your primary care physician or write to him/her, suggesting a good medicine. The final decision is up to the prescribing doctor.
Many of my clients pay for their own care, either because they like to keep it simple, they want a very high level of privacy, or they don't have health insurance. I keep my rates affordable for such people.
If you have health insurance, your plan might require you to pay a co-payment at each visit. These charges usually range from $5 to $25. You might have zero co-payment. Your health insurance company may or not have an annual deductible. Some health insurance companies require you to call them for pre-authorization. The easiest way to settle these questions is to call the toll-free customer service number on your health insurance card.
I am particularly interested in working with couples hoping for a more pleasant and loving relationship, or hoping do avoid separation or divorce. As far as I know, I see more couples -- during the average week -- than any other counselor in the region, so I get a lot of practice. I've had specialized training in this area, and sometimes teach other counselors how to help couples. I'm not concerned about whether you are married. LGBT couples are also welcome.
Couples and families sometimes wonder if I charge per person. I charge for my time, regardless of the number of people present during a session.
My counseling sessions usually run about 50 minutes. I meet with most people once per week, particularly at first, As clients start to feel and function better, we meet less often.
Some new clients ask about my treatment methods. My basic orientation is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), but I have other tools in my kit.
Some problems require specialized treatment methods. This is particularly true of anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, agoraphobia, phobias and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I have been treating problems like this throughout my career. Many of my clients have such troubles.
The most common problem that brings clients to my office is depression. It might be mild, moderate or severe. It might be a first episode or a recurring problem. Some new clients are already taking antidepressants, some are wondering if they should, and some prefer not to. Some believe they are bi-polar (manic-depressive). If you bring your questions to me, I will answer them honestly and accurately.
About a third of my clients identify themselves as "spiritual" and another third identify themselves as committed and faithful Christians. I keep quiet about my own spiritual and religious beliefs, but it is my job to respect and support the faiths of my clients.
My office is located near the Stockton malls, in a large, comfortable and secure office building. I make 5 PM appointments every day, and 6 PM appointments 3 days per week.
My phone is answered by an actual human being between 8 AM and 5 PM every business day. The secretaries can give you an appointment immediately. I usually have appointments available within one week of the time you call, and sometimes on the same day.
If you have questions, you can ask me personally at the time of your first visit, or you can ask me by telephone or email. You can find a link to my email on my website. You'll also find more information about my services, training and background, and general information about psychology and counseling.
I do not give free-trial visits. On the other hand, I do not mind if you are "shopping" for a counselor. If you meet with me for an initial visit and you think I am not the right person to help you with your problems, I will not charge you for the visit.
I encourage my clients to rate my services frankly on Angie's list. If you are in treatment with me, and not already subscribed to Angie's List, I will refund your annual $10 subscription fee.
