Business Description: Dr. Daniel Kelly is the Director of the Brain Tumor Center at Saint John’s Health Center (www.brain-tumor.org ) in Santa Monica, California. He is a board certified neurosurgeon and an expert in minimally invasive surgery for brain, pituitary and skull base tumors. He has published extensively on surgical outcomes and complication avoidance for a wide range of conditions including pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, craniopharyngiomas, chordomas, sphenoid sinus tumors and cerebrospinal fluid leaks. Dr. Kelly has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and a dozen book chapters and is a regular course director and instructor for national and international endonasal and keyhole surgery symposia. He is on the editorial board of the journal Neurosurgery and an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Pituitary Society. Dr. Kelly completed neurosurgical residency training at George Washington University Medical Center in 1993. He joined UCLA and Harbor-UCLA Medical Centers that same year and in 1998 became director of the UCLA Pituitary Tumor and Neuroendocrine Program. Before joining Saint John’s Health Center and John Wayne Cancer Institute in July 2007, he was Professor of Neurosurgery and Vice-Chief of Clinical Affairs for the Division of Neurosurgery. Dr. Kelly’s research interests include minimally invasive surgery, quality of life studies after brain tumor surgery, pituitary hormonal recovery after surgery and traumatic brain injury. He is the co-principal investigator of a study on the impact of concussion on pituitary hormonal function in retired National Football League players. He is also an Executive Board Member of the Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery (FIENS) which fosters neurosurgical training programs in the developing world. The Brain Tumor Center at Saint John’s Health Center provides comprehensive care and minimally invasive surgery for patients with brain tumors, skull base tumors and pituitary adenomas. Our specialists in Neurosurgery, Endocrinology, Oncology, Radiation-Oncology, Head & Neck Surgery, Neurology and Neuro-Ophthalmology offer a multidisciplinary approach to these disorders. With expertise in minimally invasive keyhole and endonasal transsphenoidal surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery treatment, cutting-edge cancer treatments and hormone replacement therapy, we provide individualized care for these complex problems. Through collaboration with the John Wayne Cancer Institute, the BTC is committed to improving the lives of patients with brain tumors through research and education. Research efforts include brain tumor biomarker studies, 2) quality of life studies and 3) clinical trials. A monthly CME brain tumor case conference is also held and the BTC provides fellowship training in minimally invasive neurosurgery.
