Contractors say homeowners with this trait are the most satisfied with home improvement projects.

Windows - Egress

Many homeowners seem to have questions about window egress laws. One highly rated provider breaks down everything you need to make an informed decision.

Double-hung wooden windows are known for their classic, unique look, but they’re also known for being loud and drafty. Instead of installing vinyl replacements, many window specialists offer restoration services that preserve an old window’s aesthetics while improving its functionality.

It's hard to determine if a window should be replaced or restored. Angie provides insight on making the difficult decision.

?

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Cheers!

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

?

+1

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

?

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

?

Thermal numbers look okay when looking at the NFRC.

Do you have any other data on them?  Air infiltration, Design Pressure, Visible Transmittance, and Condensation Resistance are all good evaluators.

http://www.mercuryexcelum.com/images/customer-files/Advantage.pdf

Air infiltration rate is way high at 0.21.

It may look nice in person but the performance numbers are below average.

Egress Window Installation reviews in Santa Clara

rThe office staff were friendly and helpful and arranged the installation the same day for the new mirror and indicated it would be a charge of their regular service call of $100. When the technician arrived and saw the installation site in the bathroom, he got very upset and complained that he old mirror was still there and he was told it was only an install. He indicated that he would have to charge much more for the removal process. The removal consisted of taking two brackets off and simply lifting the mirror off. It was not glued to the wall as I had told him. Finally he took the two screws out and simply removed the mirror and installed the new mirror. HIs diatribe about extra cost was unprofessional and in fact incorrect as I had told the office staff the situation. While in the end everything turned out ok, my interaction with the installer technical was not good and left a negative feeling about this company.

It took them just under 4 hours to do the work and they did the majority of the installation from the outside despite it being winter. They even wheelbarrowed the dirt to the back for me at no additional charge. It went really smoothly and the inspector even commented on what a nice job they did. They were professional and answered all of my questions.

and his staff were awesome from start to finish. They were very knowledgeable about code requirements and had plenty of experience to recommend the right window manufacturer. When they bid the job,
Santa Clara Window Well Covers Provider Name Locked
came out and thoroughly assessed the job and any obstacles they might encounter. But the owner,
Santa Clara Window Well Covers Provider Name Locked
, also came by so he could see the job as well. Very energetic guys who were actually exciting about the potential of my basement. If only I could catch some of that excitement. On the day the work was performed the workers arrived right on time and started the job. They worked very hard and did a very professional job. Part of the job involved actually moving my outside air conditioning unit. They moved it -- no additional charges. And I also had a treeling that had grown near the window. Again, he guys dug it out for me with no additional charge. I am hiring them to do more work on my basement in hopes I will like it as much as they do.

and his crew were amazing. I haven't seen three guys work that hard and that efficiently in a really long time. In addition to busting their humps, knocking out all of that work in the short weather-window they had, they were very professional and friendly too. They really took pains to make sure I was satisfied ... nay... elated... with the work. I wish everyone I contract with for work were half-as-good as
Santa Clara Window Well Covers Provider Name Locked
and his crew.

I was also pleasantly surprised with the quality of the windows they installed. I hadn't really given it much thought, and just assumed they would be cheapo windows, since that is what we have come to expect as the baseline default. They are actually well built, and come with a great warranty too.

If you want the job done right, this is the company to do it. I was extremely impressed.

's a super personable guy and I'm happy with the window. There were some bumps in the road with this project, but the end result is good and all was made right.
Communication was a little difficult with him, as his voice mailbox was often full and e-mails went unanswered for days, but he always did get back to me and started and finished the job on time. The day after the window was installed (Christmas Eve), I woke up to discover the well full of water and water leaking into the basement. They'd had to cut a drain to finish the project and did not install a long enough extension on it, so the

all ran back into the well. I called him and he and
Santa Clara Window Well Covers Provider Name Locked
rushed out to my house on Christmas Eve within 20 minutes, pumped out all the water, cleaned everything up, and remedied the problem.
Everything has been fine since, the permits and inspection all went fine, the project was finished on time and within budget, and the window is a BIG improvement in the basement.
