Appointment was scheduled early in the morning of August the 9th. I never received a confirmation call neither I received a call from the crew when they arrived. Crew members started working on the chimney without me being present and when I greeted them, they ignored me twice. When they acknowledged my presence, one of them told me that they already checked the chimney and prepared an estimate for the work that needed to be done. Appointment was completed.

I bought an Angie’s List “Big Deal” for a Chimney Sweep from their website in February and had the work performed in August, after repeated re-scheduling (something I now see others have suffered with in recent reviews).
First the good…although the scheduling for the Chimney Sweep was re-scheduled by them several times, their coordinator was always pleasant, professional and friendly and even followed up the day after the work was complete. Unfortunately, the guy who performed the work was not as professional.
The initial problem arose because of a misunderstanding between C&H and my wife who was at the house when the chimney sweep was scheduled. They asked her where the fireplace was and she stated there was one in the living room and another upstairs, not aware that the Angie’s List voucher only covered a chimney sweep. According to her, there was no mention of a price for the change in work order, nor an explanation (I didn’t even know they offered this “service”). The issue with this is that the upstairs one is a gas fireplace, and didn’t require a cleaning (or sweep) since it had been cleaned 2 months prior by a gas fireplace specialist. It’s also worth mentioning that when I inspected the chimney sweep work, there were still several areas of visible creosote left on the damper, which I will have to remove myself (their primary job was not performed well either). I sent them an email after they had done both jobs asking them why they had cleaned it and charged $105 for about 5-10 minutes of cleaning an already-clean gas fireplace, to which I would have expected either an apology, a waiving of the charge, or both. Instead, I received a slightly rude response blaming the mix-up on poor communication with my wife and telling me the full payment was due...I chose not to reply and didn’t think much more about it.
The following day, I received a call from them, and I initially though “Oh, maybe they’re calling to set things straight”. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The man who called initially asked me what the problem was and as I started to tell him immediately started talking over me and filibustering everything I said, with an obvious disinterest in why I could have possibly been unhappy. I tried to ask him how a professional would not recognize that the fireplace I had not asked to be cleaned had already been cleaned and not used and he claimed it was still dirty and needed cleaning. Then the truly unbelievable happened…he then proceeded to threaten me with “black-listing” me from “the industry” if I did not pay for the service, as well as putting a lean on my home to prevent re-financing etc. I tried to tell him that payment wasn’t the issue, but fairness was the issue, but at this point he wasn’t listening. Next, I told him that I will let everyone know about my experience and that he had lost my business…he replied by vowing to retaliate via Angie’s List rebuttal and hung up. The next day, I sent them a check for the “service”, paying in full for essentially nothing, as the price for never having to deal with them again. “Big Deal” indeed.
Overall, this was the worst experience I’ve had with any contractor or business in my life. It also reflects poorly on Angie’s List “Big Deals” which are supposed to protect us all from such shysters. If there was a letter available below F for this company, they have earned it.

I called for an appointment and they had enough trouble doing that. I should have known from the lack of unprofessionalism then, but I still went ahead and made an appointment. The women who runs it scheduled me, TWO WEEKS out which was bad enough. Finally the day came and I waited and waited there, no call, no show. So I called finally and said I am waiting for my appointment no one is here. She was like " Oh, yeah, he is not going to be able to make it today he had sometimes he had to do." No apologizes for the two week waiting time for nothing. So I was thinking W** and said well, will they be coming to tomorrow? She told me "Oh no, I'll have to reschedule you." So out of uncertainty I said okay when? She tried to schedule me a month later! I just said forgot this, you guys have wasted enough of my time. I would never recommend these fools to anyone.

then informed me that the chase cover on the exterior chimney was rusted and needed to be replaced. I looked into the inspection report of the property but didn't find any mention of it, but we decided to do the replacement anyway. The replacement costs an additional $533.11. We were not shown the rusted old chase cover when they took it down in the next visit in June. When the new chase cover was eventually replaced, C&H informed us via email that it was done. I had since, called C&H many times, leaving messages, talking to the customer representative, to request for the receipt of work done and finally received it in month of August. I was super frustrated with the lack of responsiveness and that brought the overall experience a C. I'm sure the work was good but I will opt for another chimney company.

It went really, really well! They were in my neighborhood and gave me a great deal on my chimney cleaning so I had them come over. They were very courteous, prompt and even called me to confirm when they were on their way. They were very professional and were clean and left everything they touched better than the way they found it!

Over the coarse of 6 weeks he showed up occasionally and worked a few hours here and there and continued to ask for additional money. Over this time I paid an additional $500.00 only because I was afraid he would never return to complete the work.
On 7/26/14 he said he was coming to wash the house and wanted an additional $250.00. I delayed responding to him until he said he was done and then told him I was out of town and would pay him after I returned and inspected the work. This lead to a heated phone discussion, demand of payment and eventually him hanging up on me.
When I returned on Saturday to find that he only cleaned the gutters, not the entire house I refused payment and another more heated phone conversion ensued prompting me to call the police.
I informed him he was fired and I would not pay another cent and to never call, text or come on my property again or I would call the police and that I intended to take him to small claims court in an attempt to recover some of the money for the materials he never produced and the work that was never completed but paid for.
cleaner and The motor on my home is partially ground out in some areas, partially filled in some, not yet touched in other areas, missing bricks, is exposed above one window, mortar stained, landscaping torn up, stoop not complete, and missing the materials I paid for (brick, lumbar for header, flashing, cleaner and sealant.)
