Home Remodeling Reviews in San Bruno

This is my first Angie's list review and I joined in order to make this testimonial.

New to the SF Peninsula, we did not know who to turn to to wire and complete the trailer and build the loft stairs. A neighbor recommended
, and after a phone call,
arrived the same day to look the problem over. We agreed upon a reasonable price and that's where the good stuff starts.

The very next day
shows up with an electrician. another carpenter and all supplies. The trailer gets wired from our breaker box in about 3-4 hours.
and his carpenter
build a whole flight of stairs anchored to the wall by mid-afternoon. Now the problems start. We miscalculated the trouble we would have taking the wheels off the trailer and squeezing into the slot we had created against a wall.
comes up with an Idea to make support beams rolling on sections of pipe.
's can-do attitude helps me borrow a torch from my neighbor to un-freeze some bolts and the undercarriage of the trailer comes off in a jiffy.
borrows a floor
and gets the beams under the trailer and he and his crew help me push the trailer in just right. His carpenter cuts away a wall in the trailer and a door is installed by the end of the day. We throw the electrical switch and voila, I have a two room office with lighting, heat, and air conditioning. Because of the extra work on moving the trailer,
has to come back again for the stairs into the trailer but we come to a very reasonable deal for that cost as well.
and his crew rang all the bells. Polite professional, punctual, knowledgeable with a strong no-BS can do attitude.

Overall we were extremely pleased with
's work. What impressed us most about
is he willingness to listen to us and understand what about our project was most important to us. We were very concerned with the budget and wanted to do some of the work ourselves. When we spoke to other contractors, most of them didn't understand that we were looking for a basic/functional space. Unlike the other contractors,
understood this and worked with us to figure out how minimize our costs and was very accommodating when we wanted to do something ourselves.
's quote was one of the most competitive that we received, and was one of the most detailed as well. This was probably why change orders during the project were extremely rare and resulted more for our decisions to add options then from anything else. The work proceeded smoothly and
worked quickly to get our roof up before the rain came in December, working 7 days a week to make sure the addition would stay dry. He scheduled the subcontractor and inspections like clock work and there was rarely a day when we didn't see progress being made on the addition. Finally and most importantly,
was very easy to communicate with, always answering his cell phone. We can be very overbearing sometimes and ask a lot of questions,
was always willing to listen to our concerns and explain the answers. We are now living in our new room and can't believe how much of a difference it has made. Without
we are not sure that we would have been able to afford -- much less survive -- the remodel. We would definitely recommend him. The only reason we gave him a B instead of an A for quality was that we did have a few cracks in the stucco a few weeks after the project was complete, although I think this may have been our fault for not painting it sooner. In any case as soon as we told Medhi he had his stucco guy at our house to patch the cracks.

No glitches. Started when they said they would start. Kept going until they were done. No issues about scheduling which usually creates anxiety.

very helpful when we found that what we originally planned would not work. Found alternatives we could be happy with. All in all, a job done well and done quickly.

performed an excellent job! I
San Bruno Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
up an initial cartoon/plan detailing what I wanted to do and where I wanted it.
San Bruno Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
took that plan and provided me feedback on the best way and steps to get all I wanted done.
We started with demolition of the previous garage setup that the previous owners put together (e.g., DIY - makeshift lumber storage and patchwork plywood paneling - ugly and a perfect home for hordes of spiders).
We then started with the electrical work. This part of the work was part upgrade and part fixing what the previous owners did to the house. For the upgrade portion, we increased the amperage of the main circuit breaker of the house from 100A to 200A. This was driven by my personal desire to add the capability to support an electric car charger, solar panels, and a hot tub (still lobbying the wife about this one) in the future. As part of the electrical work, we moved the existing electrical sub-panel in the kitchen to the garage. The kitchen sub-panel was in the perfect spot - right behind the range/oven. If I had to change out a fuse (note that I said, "fuse"), that would require me to literally grab the entire full size range/oven and pull it out from its spot pinned between the granite counters. Definitely, not fun and not legal. Concurrent with installation of the new sub-panel, we strung the necessary wiring through the studs to strategically placed electrical outlets placed throughout the garage. Goodbye extension cords!
After the electrical work was done, we then started looking at insulation and drywalling. Like with all projects, there are always hiccups. Looking at the garage walls during a rainy day,

noticed that certain parts of the walls were moist. He informed me that insulating the walls under that condition would only breed mold in the future. Okay, no wall insulation. But insulation for the new attic area in the garage was still doable - great, since that's where most of the heat comes in that turns the garage into a sauna on a sunny day. Looking at the walls some more,
San Bruno Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
also noticed that the walls weren't structurally strong enough to hold up all of the additional weight and unsafe during an earthquake. He suggested adding

walls (plywood panels) and bolts throughout the entire garage. I debated about this since it added extra cost that

't part of the initial estimate. From my perspective, I thought this was a good idea since it would then allow me to attach light-weight shelves/storage to anywhere on the walls without needing to be constrained by where the studs were.
Next, we then looked at the plumbing going to the hot water heater. The previous plumbing installation placed most of that plumbing on the studs themselves, preventing us from drywalling flush across the wall.

suggested that we moved the plumbing into the walls (where they should have been). This is where I have my only critique where I think
San Bruno Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
should have seen that in our initial walk-through and had that as part of the initial estimate for drywalling. I don't mind paying for the extra work, but it was something that should already have been identified and considered.
Overall, the drywalling looks great. The insulation works beautifully. And most importantly the garage looks clean and bright, and also provides ample room for me to install storage anywhere. Very very happy. It was great to work with

. He has my recommendation, and I would call him again.
