Landscaping reviews in Oakland

Received a referral from a neighbor who had his driveway berm repaired. The berm serves to channel

coming off the street away from the driveway. The driveway berm at the site location was 20+ years old and in the process of falling apart. Needed a contractor to replace it. Also, parked cars on the street were parking on the landscaping adjacent to the street. The berm along the landscaping acted like a

I bought a cosmetic fixer-upper last year which had a pretty frightening tangle of weeds, neglected landscaping, and a cement path that was buried under a

of topsoil in the backyard, and an old oak in the middle of it all.

was one of several landscape designers that came by to take a look, and it was obvious that he'd be very creative, come up with great designs, and work around some of the things I already had in mind. He came up with the concept of digging up the old cement path (once we realized it was there) and re-purposing the pieces, along with some bricks from a wall he had just torn down for someone else, and created a patio that looks like it's always been there. Next, we decided to put in some meandering paths, and worked together to tweak his design. It created a number of very different rooms in my backyard. One of these areas runs along a neighbor's property, so he created a mounded privacy screen with some very thoughtfully chosen plants. One of his plant choices came from his wanting to mitigate the freeway noise by offsetting it with the sound of seedpods in the wind. Genius. He never complained when I'd show up with a random tree or succulents I had bought over the weekend and wanted stuck in somewhere. We agreed that I'd handle deciding on which drought tolerant plants (

His masterpiece, though, would be the fence and gate he designed and built for me. His and the team's attention to detail gave me a fence and gate that will be in good shape for a very long time. I've had friends comment on the quality of the fence when they've only seen small sections of it in the background of pictures online. The opening and closing mechanism on the gate took some doing, but

kept at it and threw a number of options my way, and he continues to check in on it to make sure I'm happy with it. Now that we've gotten through the first spring and into the first summer, it's kind of amazing to see how it's all tying together. I recommend

Lovely to work with. Had a blast picking out plants together at the nursery. Prices are very fair and competitive. Crew was always on time, respectful, and did great work. The yard looks amazing - it is exactly what I wanted. The only red flag is to be sure to request change orders in writing - we had a miscommunication about the cost of a change order as it was only discussed verbally, and the cost change never put down in writing. We resolved it amicably and fairly by splitting the difference. Highly recommend this company.

and his team transformed our backyard into a kid friendly yet aesthetically pleasing masterpiece. We live on a hill so our backyard sloped. There was a small grass area and the rest was brush.
We realized there was a lot of space back there but in its previous state it offered little play area. We had

come over one afternoon and we walked through the yard with him with only some rough ideas of what we wanted to do.

was able to convert those rough ideas into a concrete design.
Once we agree on the design and price his team started on time and stayed within budget. They were able to finish on time and turned out backyard into something my family and neighbors love. We are out there all the time.
This was the first work we've had done on our house that was on time and on budget. Not to mention

was great at communicating with us along the way without. He also didn't need us to make every little decision. He is really good at understanding your vision and taste then making the right decisions along the way.

Did a great job in the amount of time predicted and at budget. 3 months later our low-water, beautiful front garden is filling in nicely and has gotten lots of great comments from our neighbors. Reasonably priced, and was willing to work with us within our budget (unlike others we looked up). We are loving the sight of a beautiful front yard every time we come home. We will definitely use

again when we have to do our backyard.

This was a big project which lasted about 8 weeks. I'm pretty happy with the final outcome, but it took a significant amount of daily review and repeated follow up on my part to get it close to correct. They didn't provide a detailed drawing with measurements/detailed dimensions, so what I thought would be put in was sometimes different than what was actually done. Decisions were made about changes from the original discussions without my approval (I wasn't even told about them). Example: The walkway around the house is 4ft wide and we had talked about 3.5 ft wide which is what I wanted. Is that the worst thing in the world? No, but I wanted a 3.5 ft wide walk because of the scale of everything around it. I didn't realize the size until the border pavers has been set in concrete. I wanted an inlay in the large back area and I was very particular about the location and the size. I spent several hours moving pavers around to determine where I wanted it and to determine the size. I sent the exact information to them yet the inlay was not put in based on my instructions. I told them they had to fix it which they did but the first question coming back to me was always, "You don't like it the way it is?" If I liked it the way it was, I wouldn't be telling you to fix it. The front yard paver design was almost laid in completely differently than the drawing (straight path instead of a curved path). It was finally changed after the second follow up. They had actually set in and cut pavers which caused a good amount of waste. My guess is that's why they didn't have any of the smaller sizes of pavers to leave with me for any future rework. During the project, they cracked a lot of concrete with the bobcat and the heavy trucks in my driveway and on my sidewalk. They replaced it but they were very sloppy and I now have white concrete residue /splash along the border with my pretty, expensive red-toned pavers. Can't get it off. Lastly, the lime tree they planted is not the kind I asked for (it's some kind of sweet lime and I wanted a standard lime). It took time for the tree bear to fruit for me to determine this. I told him it was the wrong type of tree at the end of August. It's now the end of Nov and I'm "on the rework list" with no date for the work. About half of the emails I have sent regarding the status have been unanswered. I finally gave up and am having another company come and replace it. All in all, it's done and it's mostly what I wanted but it was a frustrating project.

and crew from DIG did a wonderful job installing my

retention system in Oakland, CA. I appreciate how thorough and careful in planning they were. They measured my roofline, determined how much water would come off the roof, and constructed a

, who was helping me, supervised all work and was helpful in recommending the plants and mulch to use for the backyard landscaping ("permaculture") component. She also was good at procuring all needed parts at below retail prices (esp. important for the rain barrels.) I was highly satisfied with their service and price, and would recommend them to anyone.

I used this company for a full landscape design as well as the execution of the design for the from and back of my property. I live on a downslope so a professional company that stands by their work and has experience with drainage, sloped properties, etc was very important. They rendered a full design with multiple options based on my sketches as well as many adjustments based on my feedback to create a working version of my ideas. They are not cheap, but you honestly don't want cheap landscaping if you want it to last and it was well worth the money, it was a lot of materials, very top quality craftsmanship, lighting, stone, pavers, etc. Our house looks totally different, more modern and beautiful and will only get better as the landscaping matures, after about 7 months it really looks fabulous and so far it is really holding up quite well, drainage and irrigation are perfect so far. I'm waiting for a few follow up plants and trees, but other than that I would gladly use them again. The owner of the company even came by during the process to make sure it was going well. They also worked shockingly fast without sacrificing quality with a very professional team that respected our privacy as well as that of our neighbors, I can honestly say my house, from a

appeal perspective, is the by far the most attractive on the block.

We hired Roselio when our original nurseryman abandoned us. Roselio met us at a different nursery to transport the plants we purchased. He and his crew began to remove some of our old plants as well as an old stump that we hadn't previously discussed. They did an amazing job on everything. He was careful to position the new plants exactly per our instructions. He also put in a new irrigation system and took time to make sure we understood how it all worked. Roselio's price was very reasonable, he was easy to work with and we've hired him to do maintenance for both front and back yards. I highly recommend him.

iFirst we had the general contractor come over and check out the existing bathroom, which really needed help. We had a wall and an extra door to remove and definitely needed a new bathtub, sink, and toilet. We were given a detailed estimate. The general contractor designed the bathroom and took care of all permits, etc. Each subcontractor met with us and outlined the

they would do. The plumber ordered the toilet, tub, and all fixtures (they are gorgeous). The tiler measured for tile and we picked it out. The electrician updated the electrical system and replaced lights, fan, etc. Painter/drywaller also came. We were never left out of the loop and all went perfectly as scheduled. We were out of the country for nine days and work continued. It was all in all a great experience working with

. We plan to work with the company again!
