Oakland HVAC Contractors Reviews

"I called because something was wrong with floor furnace. There was a $59
consultation fee. The service agent said one part had to be replaced
for about $250. He had the part but couldn't fit in the crawl space.
Since he had to come back there was going to be an additional $59 fee on
top of the $50. They sent someone who could fit in the crawl space and
replaced what was said needed to be replaced only to find that the gas
valve needed to be replaced. Another $500. I'm told that this is often
the case. I had it. If only they were straight about what was needed and
the possible costs it would be O.K. but to have them keep coming up
with something new- no. I finally spoke with the manager who credited me
with the $59 fees and waived the $250 fee and promised I would have
heat by the end of the day. But no- even the service agent said he had
the part that was need he actually had a similar "generic" part. I
didn't want a generic part I wanted the proper part for my furnace. He
left and was able to get the proper part and after three days I have
heat. Major abuse of my time and too much stress.

the manager was
very helpful in getting everything done and I guess they are going to
speak to their service agents to be more comprehensive when giving
estimates. I believe they do quality work but I was the unlucky one to
get them off their game.
"Their name was on our radiant heater from the previous owners, so I figured they would know the system in our

home. They did, and made some great recommendations about how to gently, but effectively use the radiant heat to keep our home at a comfortable temperature with out wasting energy.

The new settings have worked great, and our energy bill is half what the pervious owner's was. (In part because we have a new residential hot water heater, but still.)

They took the time to explain how the system worked and adjusted it to meet my expected needs. Very happy with the service.
This is the first time that I have used Angie's list so I was cautious. I made the call the person that answered the telephone was prompt and pleasant. I was given a two hour window and the person called before they arrived and they arrived within that two hour windows.

The service person was concerned about possibly tracking dirt into the house, so they put on covers for his shoes. The service was performed promptly and I was pleased with the service and the price."
"The repair person, came and I showed him the location of repairs. He reviewed and indicated that work could be done and proceeded with repair/replacement."
"Scheduler called 15 mins before serviceman was due to say he was running late. Called again to say he was on the way. Serviceman arrived as expected. Was pleasant and professional. Answered all questions thoroughly. Provided service. left site clean. No problems. I would use Atlas again."

installed our new central heating system using the highest quality materials (just one example:

uses aluminum rather than plastic ducting - plastic is not as durable).

We got amazing financing terms (0% interest for 3 years) and a high-quality, well-installed system.

Lalo and

who installed our system are very hardworking, nice, precise and very skilled at installation. They knew how to handle tricky ducting situations and also did a good job cutting into our floors without damaging them or making a mess. They were great all around. I can see why this company has been business so long.
"It went great. Explained what he was doing the entire time, gave me some advice on how to preserve the heater's life, possibly. I had to remind him of the 10% Angie's List discount which the dispatcher had not told him, so he was surprised by it. But he took the 10% off. Not an issue. Was here about an hour plus some. Recommended thoroughly. Oh, the fix still works great, our heater seems fine 2 months into the repair."
"I had the team out for an energy audit, and they did an amazing job-- very thorough, very knowledgeable, with top notch testing equipment and a comfortable demeanor. They are growing in popularity, so it took a couple of weeks to get them out for the audit, but net net, feel very comfortable with their capacity and integrity, and I look forward to having them out to perform the upgrades on the house."
"My house is a 1955 gem and needed a new heater and duct system. The crawl space is low and filled with asbestos-covered ducts. We chose to have all new ducts installed in the attic space instead, and the very tall technician was amazing to get the duct work done quickly and apparently well as the heat now blasts into each room. While the company provided a very efficient and effective heater (95%) and nearly completed the job in 3 days, we are left with a bitter taste. The very nice tech who installed the system did not have a new intake grill or any filters on his truck the last day and did not install them in the new system (minor, I know, but it's the finishing details that you remember). We have all new registers and he put up the rusted, over-painted old intake grill. I asked about the filters and he said go to any hardware store to find them. For $6000, I think a filter is a nice touch. I have asked several times for the past month to have the two small items sent out, but have been put off. The technician did a good job overall, but the customer service for the company is surprising. I would recommend them to a friend, but with the warning that customer service and follow-through is weak. Props to

"Furnace did not fire up at start of winter. A service call (with another company) resulted in recommendation to replace furnace instead of repair it due to age. Got 3 estimates. Atlas was competitive with another estimate, however became the lowest bidder with 10% recession discount, $200 preseason rebate, and $190 union rebate that others did not offer. Lowest price did not mean low quality work. It is hard to imagine that any company would outperform Atlas's service. Atlas was my first estimate. As I become more knowledgeable, I called the cell number the estimator provided to ask follow-up questions. Both times, he returned my calls promptly and answered all of my questions. When another job needed to be rescheduled, he called to schedule me in the now open time slot to help ensure the work would be complete before my summer break ended. When the old furnace was removed, the installer found a huge rats' nest and two dead rats. He removed all of this and disposed of it for me. He also did work to increase airflow at no additional charge that others had recommended and for which one company billed extra. Where other companies made it sound like they would be doing special things to improve installation/efficiency, Atlas just did them as part of the job. Following installation, Atlas helps with the paperwork for all the available rebates (currently union, PG&E, and state) and explains the available federal tax credit. From start to finish, the people at Atlas were professionals who did their job well and tried to make it as easy as possible for the customer to have the best possible experience."
