THE BASICS: Poor quality, unfulfilled promises, unprofessional THE STORY: The owner himself showed up to do an (unscheduled) appraisal. I was given limited, if any, options in the design of the steps. When I requested a brochure to see what options I had for new railings, he said instead of buying a new one, I should have the old one removed and "sandblasted", and that it would "look brand new". Realistically I never expected it to look brand new, I did however expect it to be smooth and finished nicely. What happened instead is that he (or his workers) painted over the rusty railing seemingly without even hand sanding it let alone sandblasting it. By the time I got to see it the railing was already set in the new concrete. When I complained about it he said he could saw off the top half and slide a plastic railing overtop of it. After expressing my intentions of not spending anymore money on his (poor quality) work, he said he would have one of his guys come and sand the railing and repaint it (without offing even a partial refund for the sandblasting I was originally promised). I'm not even sure anyone came to repaint it because it was chipped and rusty just a couple months later. However, someone did come back to "level" the steps (a patchwork job on top of already shoddy craftsmanship). They came over yet again unannounced to do that work, but failed to address the issue of pooling and discoloration. In fact there was a very distinct color difference between the steps and the patches. I called him on at least two separate occasions and left a message with his wife both times. After several weeks of unanswered phone calls, I saw him working on another contract downtown, so I pulled over to see if he had gotten my messages. He implied that he had but he was "busy working on a government contract" and could send someone up after those other jobs were done. So I waited even longer. I was informed by another townsperson that Mr.
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
was having "serious family problems", having just lost my mother to cancer, I stopped calling him and didn't pry (turns out it wasn't even health related). The patchwork started chipping before Winter, revealing that the steps didn't even touch the sidewalk. There is 3/4" gap that water

down underneath. Currently, 3 years later, there is a 6" wide hole developing in the center landing, the steps have turned green, and I let the bushes grow out I order to cover up that hideous railing. I already need to have the steps REPLACED AGAIN because they aren't safe for the elderly member of the household. Words can not describe how awful my experience was with this company. I got the distinct impression that perhaps someone of a different age and gender would have been taken more seriously instead of being dismissed as I obviously was. The sad thing is that I don't even know how much this ordeal cost me because he wasn't even professional enough to itemize the bill.

It went well. I was unsure of the tile and had not chosen it before arriving in town (this was a vacation townhouse). This put
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
at a disadvantage timewise, as I had asked him to please finish before I had to go back home. But all of his workers were courteous and very good at their jobs. His tile expert,
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
took the accent pebbles off of the 4 inch netting and placed them individually, stepping back and checking his work...being very detailed and perfect. He did an excellent job, as did all of

was very polite and responsive and even responded to me on the weekend while he was on the lake.
I appreciated everything they did and their cleanup afterward.
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
was very conscious of trying to get the job done when I asked, even though I was the one who delayed the process with my tile decision. In the end, it was finished a day later, which worked out fine.
Great Job!!! Thanks so much!!!

was recommended by the architect we used. According to them, he had done mostly remodels but because of the variety of projects, he really probably was ready for a bigger project such as ours. Being in business ourselves, we were anxious to give a young up-and-coming builder a shot. Within the first month, when I questioned a design point on the house, he condescendingly told me I should "stop looking at all those home and garden magazines", as if it was a cause of my concern. I assured him it was my vision in planning this remodel the last 15 years that was behind my questions, not some magazine. I should've had a clue then where this would go.

's strong point is his attention to detail, especially in woodworking (trim, etc.) He tended to want to use cheaper materials ("a window is a window" he would say) but we pushed back for better quality windows. All the "quotes" he brought us for the bank loan turned out to be poor and incomplete estimates. The heating and cooling system I wanted, and he knew this was one of my non negotiable points- hot water heat, with air conditioning add on- turned out to be over twice as much as he quoted (he quoted $20,000, actual cost would've been around $50,000), and I ended up with a forced air system because the quote was so far off. Plus we lost a month worth of time trying to work with other HVAC contractors to get the system we wanted to no avail. Plumbing also went over budget. Also, if I could do it over, I would not use the cabinet company he is a dealer for. There were only small sample pieces to look at and choose a color from. They bounced our order due to dropping the color we ordered and that delayed our order by close to a month. The quality was less than

Maid. Still waiting for

to replace a cracked door in our kitchen.
He said he could do the job in six months. We only wanted to have it done by my son's graduation the following June, which would've given him a full 8 months. We ended up having to push the graduation back to the middle of June and still did not have countertops and only finished plumbing fixtures downstairs plus many other finishes yet to be done. He had the
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
to say "I'm not the one who scheduled the party" as if it was my fault, also "you didn't think a job like this could be done in 6 months, did you?" When I reminded him that he was the one who told us that timeframe, and we had been okay with a couple months over, then asked him if he had lied about the timeframe, he responded that he had told us what he thought we wanted to hear. We moved back in
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
2013, with one shower working, most faucets and shower heads yet to be installed, no countertops, unfinished fireplace, unfinished pillar bases on our porch, and more.
We did make some design changes mid stream, but none of the changes were cause for significant delays. Most delays during the initial construction were due to poor quotes and having to go back and do more research.
Things were pretty tense after June (June 2013). I'll be honest, we held back some money to make sure everything would get done at the end. It amounted to about $3,000 out of the $110,000 we had written checks to
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
at that point. The cost of the entire remodel exceeded $400,000.

didn't seem to like this and pretty much quit working on finishing the last items. He's accused us of not paying some of the other contractors, even though we have signed waivers from everyone else who worked on our house. He finally came back about 10 mos later to finish the bases to our porch pillars. We ended up having a huge crack all the way across the wall in our master bath, which he finally came to fix this past August (August 2014). I received a text from
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
today saying he was refusing to come back and finish any of the warranty work left. A sad ending to a long ordeal.

Absolutely perfectly. On time, under budget, highest quality workmanship. I have experience in the building trades, and the attention to detail surpasses any builders I've been exposed to in the past.

also has superb sense of proportion and style, so that if something looks like it could be done better if done a bit differently (even from a professional architect's plans)
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
will gently suggest changes. Every time I've gone with one of his suggestions, it turned out to be the right way to do things. My only wish is that he lived and worked closer to my primary residence, since I have a lot of projects to do, and no one as good as

to do them here in the Twin Cities.

My husband and I are about to build a new home and are looking for a contractor. We visited a construction site and were very pleased with the quality of the work. I returned to the work site when a crew was there in order to find out who the builder was. I was given a number by the crew but it turned out to be incorrect. I found another number online and called it but still wasn't sure I had the right number. It was answered only by, "Hello" so I said, "I am trying to reach
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
." The person only said, "Okay." So, I still wasn't 100% that I even had the right number. Unsure of how to proceed, I started telling him that we were planning to build a house and were interested in discussing it with him. He just said, "Okay" and nothing else. I asked if he had an office or how we'd need to meet with him. He said he didn't care where we met. So, I said we'd like to set up a meeting for some day after 3pm to which he replied, "I'll be at home in
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
after 3pm." Wow. I don't care how good the construction of that home looked, I'm not going to hire someone who can't even have a professional phone conversation and treats me like I'm bothering him. I'm not going to work with someone who makes me feel bullied.

The process was actually pretty smooth considering all that was changing in our house. The contractors did a good job of trying to keep the construction separate from the space we were still living in. All the workers were extremely nice.
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
kept us informed of what was happening each day and walked us through each step. We had good communication the entire project. It's amazing how the contractor can tear down the walls and ceilings and completely put it back together. Looking at our house now you would never know that any work had been done. Everything looks as if it came with the original house....that's how seamless everything looks.

Contacted Mr.
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
in the middle of June and asked for an estimate on repairing my ceiling. There are 3 areas that need repair, due to a previous storm. We needed at least 3 estimates for our insurance company and when scheduling these estimates I disclosed that information up front.
Mr.
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
stated that he would contact me within a week to schedule a time to conduct estimate. I still had not heard from him by 30 June so I posted a message on Angie's List...within an hour or so I received a reply that he was sorry for delay and would contact me soon to schedule appt. Mr.
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
did finally come out to my house the first week of August. I was told that he would send me the estimate within 24 hours. On 11 August I sent him another Angie's List message (received reply within hour or so???) and he replied with a cost for repair, but NO written estimate. I was told that I would get a written estimate, if I chose his company to do the work.
I don't understand why I couldn't get a written estimate which is what I requested to begin with! This has caused a delay in getting repair done because now I have to find another company to come and give me a written estimate FOR MY INSURANCE COMPANY.

The quality of the work was good. I was a little disappointed in the plumber but in the end it all worked out. The price was good and the contractor is very responsive. I liked his work so much that he is currently working on a detached garage for me now.

We were given
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
information from a friend who owns numerous rental properties in
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
to contact about making renovations to a new home we purchased in Reading
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
. Initially the scope of the work included a kitchen renovation and leveling a family room floor that was sloped because it used to be a garage and a few other minor repairs. He acted as our general contractor and connected us with the necessary sub-contractors to perform electrical, plumbing, plaster, paint jobs and custom cabinets as needed. We had our own preferred HVAC and flooring contractors who
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
worked with. He sat down and gave us sketches of several options for our family room and kitchen updates and gave estimates for the cost of each. He scheduled all work so that we could move into our new home after all the work was complete. As the work started we found a number of problems that expanded the scope of the work to include a full bathroom rebuild, adding additional support under our master bedroom and reinforcing the roof in our family room.
We ended up being slightly behind schedule due to the expanded scope of the work. But all work was on budget and we were able to move into our new home on the date we were promised. We have had
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
back to do additional jobs and we could not be happier with the way our home has turned out. It has been a pleasure working with
Oak Park Home Builders Provider Name Locked
and we will continue to use him when we have additional work to do on our house. We also now go directly to his sub-contractors with pluming and electrical work.
