"..y emailed me To begin with, this company baits and switched
on their quotes. The original telephone quote was $1,800.00, having ALL of" the details about where I was moving to. The estimator came to the house, and worked up a new quote at $2,800.00! They have exorbitant charges, like $240.00 for securing a washing machine for transit. By me taking on the chores that they were way overcharging for, the quote came down to $2,020.00. They emailed me the quote. A couple of days later, they contacted me to tell me that they had made a mistake with the mileage expense, and they would have to send a new quote. The new quote was for $2,300.00, and the mileage expense was the same, but the weight was raised from 5,000 Lbs. to 8,000 Lbs.! I emailed Dakota to ask why the weight increased by 60%? He said he'd get back to me. After about 4 days, I emailed the question again. Still no answer. B then, I was stuck time wise, with using this mover. When the furniture arrived and was unwrapped from the moving pads, it was all dusty and grimy. Apparently, they don't clean their moving pads very often. They emailed me after the move to ask my opinion of their services. I replied that I did not appreciate the way the quotes kept changing, the lack of response to questions, and the dirty condition of the furniture when it arrived.
, the estimator who apparently was not well trained, emails me back his opinions and comments, blaming everything on me! I had to reply to him asking him not to contact me anymore. I would never recommend this company, who has since merged with United.

Hello, this is Kyle K from the Member Care Department.

Although Angie's List doesn't provide info on average or "going rates" for various projects, when members and consumers submit reviews, they have the option to include that cost of the project.

With that in mind, one way to find out a very general price range on a project is to log on to www.AngiesList.com (http://www.angieslist.com/?CID=ANS) and search for "Moving" (or any other appropriate category for your project, such as remodeling - K&B or ceramic tile), and then look at the project cost info supplied by local members and consumers.

Of course, probably the best way to get the most accurate cost information is to request multiple bids from several contractors. As the price will vary with work site considerations and individual contractors' approaches, getting multiple estimates will help provide a clearer picture of what your project will cost.

I hope this information helps!

Here are the FAQ's on San Jose rent control - and only apartments and mobilehomes being rented are covered, not storage units.

http://www.sanjoseca.gov/FAQ.aspx?QID=521

More and more people are using storage units, so costs have gone up frequently and signfiicantly in the past few years.

Pretty much you are at the mercy of the market - if the market will support it, they can raise their prices - and the cleaner, newer, and higher security ones can do that easier (but also presumably protect your stuff better). Your only recourse, for lower cost, is to go with an older, shabbier looking or non-climate controlled place, build storage at your place, dedicate more of your personal space to storage, or get rid of stuff.

Hi Nancy,

This is Sarah B. in Member Care. I'm happy to help!

I was able to find several rated providers where you can rent a storage pod. For your current need though, our Snapfix specialists would also be able to do all of the dialing for you, match you up with a top rated company and arrange to have them call you to figure out the logistics. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please fill out the form in the link below and our Snapfix Team will take it from there!

http://www.angieslist.com/fix/

If you would like to reach out to these providers yourself, please let me know. I’d be happy to send these to you.  No matter which option you choose, I hope you’ll take the time to fill out a review when the work is done.

If you would like information on providers through this forum, please let us know. You can respond to this thread or submit a new Answers post. You can also reach us at memberservices@angieslist.com. We're happy to help, Nancy!

I went with this company because they accept checks and his reviews were so good. He said any mover that wants to be paid before the move is over, is not a good mover. We set up the move. I had to move earlier than I had planned because of scheduling and availability. They were 2.5 hours late because the truck broke down. I was supposed to have a 4 man crew between 8 or 9 in the morning. 1 crew of 2 showed up at 10:30 with a smaller truck. The second truck showed up later. The crew leader on the 2nd truck began to yell at the 1st crew and asked why they didn't order a 3rd truck. The decided they would make it work. I told them, we got to get this done. I have to get my cat before the vet closes. As time passed the trucks were filling up and they had not ordered a 3rd truck and they began yelling at me that they didn't have anymore room on the trucks. They did not listen when it came to where and how I wanted things packed. They told me don't worry about it, we'll sort it out at the storage. I needed one item out to the
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
. They could not get it out in one piece, so they broke it. They also ran out of pads and then only shrink wrapped my items. The owner said it was impossible to run out of pads. They have over 100 pads on a truck. Then they were taking paintings and glass out to the truck not wrapped at all. The owner told me, "Oh they wrap it out at the truck."My patio chairs were strapped to the metal lift, and my mattress and box springs were attached to the outside of the truck. They told me the entire house was empty. I came back and luckily checked the garage. There were enough items in the garage to fill the back of a pick up truck. The owner called and was yelling at me about refusing to pay. He said I cannot refuse to pay because it is against the law and is fraud. I had no idea what he was talking about because I did not refuse to pay and was not supposed to pay until the move was over. I reminded him of that and he said, "Oh, I forgot I told you that." The owner told me that because of all the issues I had with the first move, that he would send a new fresh crew of his best and fastest movers. I said how will they know what goes where? He said to call in the day before for the stuff that was going to my sister or necie. The owner told me I would never get a shock from his company, because he is so good at estimating. Well it ended up being 1500 more than estimated. He stated that it was my fault because I needed things delivered to my sister and my
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
. Originally I needed the items delivered to my sister by noon, but then she had the day off, so it was no longer an issue. When it came time for the second part of the move. They told me that they could not pack the truck and deliver the items to my sister, my
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
and I. He said it was going to cost more money and take more time because I was putting time constraints on him. They wanted to do me, my sister, then my
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
. I told him "Remember, I called you back and told you my sister was off and there were no time constraints." When the crew of the second move brought the items to my home, they were all mixed up and not sorted to what goes where. They kept bringing the wrong items to the wrong areas. The older guy,
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
, was very nice and told me don't worry about it, we will sort it out for you. The younger guy, Nick, kept threatening me that "His crew was about to walk off the job." I told them I would be happy to come down and tell them where everything goes, but I was not going to leave my apartment door open because of my cat. They kept bringing things up and making piles. I told them to not pile things there, furniture is going to go there. They said, just let us bring the items up, then we will put everything where it goes. Then, they were mad that they had to move the items twice because the didn't listen when I told them not to make piles. They told me there were still boxes in the truck and they could not bring up anymore boxes because I wouldn't be able to move around. I said that I needed my boxes for my bathroom and my kitchen. They then began to cuss, just bring it all in. They began stacking the boxes and using moving straps to bring them in. This crushed the boxes. They finally got everything loaded in the house and I began to notice all the damage to my furniture items. I still haven't found all the damage. I felt intimidated by the movers, so I tipped them way more than I would normally have because I was scared of them and they knew where I lived.
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
then gave me a paper to sign. He said don't be shocked by the numbers just sign, you and
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
will talk about the final price. So I signed and did not give them a check. Then The owner called me and began yelling at me about refusing to pay again. He said I was a liar and I was being facetious. He wants payment immediately or he was calling the police. I reminded him that
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
said that he and I would work the final price out. He said everything was my fault and what credit card did I want to use. I told him that I would send him a check. He said he was not going to wait for a check. He made me overnight a check and send him the tracking number or he was going to call the police. He said "I was going to work with you on the price, but everything is your fault and now I want the full amount. Now give me my money or I'm calling the police." I am honestly shocked at how bad this experience was after seeing how great their reviews were.

Renting these
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
was incredibly easy and made our move SO much smoother. The
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
were delivered to our old house and picked up at the new place, which was very convenient; scheduling was very easy and flexible. Using the
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
themselves were great: they fit a good amount of stuff and are incredibly durable. They stack easily which made for easy storage (both empty and full), and are solid but not too heavy. Packing went so much faster not having to worry about assembling and breaking down cardboard
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
, and their consistent size made them easier to pack into a truck/car; there was also no fear that the tape wouldn't hold or the bottom or handles would break while moving them. It was easy to add an additional week to the standard two week rental, and we could have easily extended the rental if we needed more time to unpack.
HIGHLY recommended!

It was horrible. They showed up prior to calling me first. I asked them to call me within 30 minutes of showing up.
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
said he would give 30-60 minutes notice before they showed up. I arrived at the storage unit. They looked in the unit and said it should be no problem getting the job done in 2 hours. They started loading up my coats and other wardrobe. I asked them if I should stay and look over them or leave? They advised me I could leave and meet them at the new unit. They called me as they were leaving the storage unit at 9 a.m. It took them about an hour to load the truck. I gave his directions on how to get to my new apartment. It was supposed to be a 15 minutes drive. I called him 30 minutes later and asked where he was. They advised me they were driving slow so nothing would be bouncing around in the back of the truck. They finally showed up and started unloading. They were throwing fragile items into that wardrobe cart. They weren't being very careful with those fragile items. I had some items that were going into another storage unit that was in my apartment complex. They were just throwing things on top of other fragile items.

were the 3 movers.
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
and
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
were the ones who were bringing the items upstairs to the apartment. They were very kind. They weren't being rude or anything to me. They were just careless with my belongings. I had a leather couch, love seat, coffee table, end table, mattress, 2 box springs, and the bed frame. They bed frame was never put together. It was just thrown into the room. An antique
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
cabinet, from World War I, was lifted by the legs and broken. The leather couch and love seats were dragged. It caused scuffs and scratches on the arms, corners, and bottoms of the couches (front and back). There was no damage to the coffee or end tables. Everything was already wrapped with moving blankets before they ever showed up to the storage unit.
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
insulted his employees and said "not a bad job for a bunch of drop outs." On my way from from the condo, I received a voicemail from

that said "I forgot to talk to you about the gas (money)." I called
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
after I received that voicemail and asked if I owed money for gas.
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
said, "Absolutely not, that's included. If he mentions that to you again, call me immediately and I will fire him on the spot. My son called and spoke with
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
. My son told
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
he has never seen such a horrific moving job in his life. It was just a terrible experience. I spoke with
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
after the move and advised him that my couches were trashed. He said he had a great leather guy to come out and fix my couches. Finally on August 10,
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
called me and offered me $100 "out of good faith." He advised me if we followed the contract (that was never explained to me) that I would only get $6. He also asked me not to talk about this on social media. He wanted me to sign a paper agreeing to it. I opted out of that, because I feel like people should know about my experience with this company.

Horrible customer service! The owneris rude and ignorant of the laws. NEVER use this storage facility. While asking questions about the units, the owner hung up on me! I called back because I thought the call had dropped, but he hung up on meagain! I was not rude in the least bit and am HIGHLY dissatisfied with these childish actions. Take your money to a company who respects their
clients!

This was for a DOD move. The man who came to our house for the walk-through was very nice. Our move was scheduled to be a two day pack and one day load. They showed up on the first day to pack at 12pm and worked until 5pm. Second day they showed up at 10am and worked until 6pm. They should have been done on second day but had to finish packing for a third day which lasted from 10am to 7pm. The packers were very slow and spent quite a bit of time on their phones. On loading day the driver showed up after 12pm and two of their employees that were to assist loading, quit before they arrived so the additional help (one person) arrived 2 hours later. Once the driver and the one employee began to load it was going well. They sent additional help approximately an hour later (one more guy) and then around 5pm more help arrived. They were loading until about 9pm. Some of our furniture needed to be disassembled but the screws and hardware for many pieces were not placed with the furniture. Our scheduled move delivery date was
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
30 but no delivery arrived on
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
30. After numerous phone calls they rescheduled the date. This should have never happened in the first place. There is a reason you fill out the paperwork with a date of delivery. It does not take a genius to figure that out. Seven days later we receive our household goods in two rental trucks, not the original trailer that our goods were loaded into at the origin. As the trucks were unloaded may items would fall because of the precarious way they were re-loaded into the rental trucks. We have several broken items and missing pieces. My daughter's bed is broken and missing slats so she has no bed at this time. Several times my husband had to use his own tools to assist putting some items back together. We have moved 8 times in the military and this company failed to do a good job. It was not even an average job. If we ever have to move again I will make sure we do not get stuck with

has three offices. The estimator was out of the Thousand
Lodi Storage Units Provider Name Locked
office; the packers were from the Temecula office and our goods were stored in Temecula. We were very pleased with the packing crew who were totally professional and worked like energizer bunnies. Now in Massachusetts so far we've found only one item that will need repair...the fret work on an end table was damaged. I've been unpacking boxes for a week now and not a thing in the boxes has been broken. (Aside: I would recommend ruthlessly weeding your stuff...sometimes the old things just don't look that great in the new environment and you think why on earth did I pay to move this?) Merit staff kept in contact with us in Massachusetts acting both as middleman with the local movers who delivered our load and checking on us on delivery day to see how everything is going. Moving is very stressful but I feel Merit did a really good job on getting our stuff to our new home safely and soundly. I would recommend them. I still have at least another week to ten days of boxes to unpack and will update this review if necessary...but seeing the quality of the packing I doubt I will need to.
