had put a liner in my bathtub years ago. It has lasted twice as long as he guaranteed it for. Instead of buying a new bathtub, I called to" see if it could be relined again. (It was relined the first time due to cracks in it, which was there when I purchased my home.) To my surprised- it could. He did an outstanding job. He also put a skid resistance bottom on so I do not need a mat. The color is the same as my tub. You would never know it is not part of the original bottom. It only cost me $300. A new tub would have cost thousands! Before you buy a new tub, call him. He is honest, hard working, a family man, and stands behind his work. I am picky about work completed in my home. I stand firm in recommending him to anyone! My tub is going on 40 years old and now looks brand new! He is the only personI would now call for any bathroom repair needs. Call him!!!

"The technician showed up on time (within the window allowed) and got right to work. He was careful with the things in my home and stripped the peeling prior-refinishing" off the clawfoot quickly. He answered my questions and only had two very small flaws in the refinishing (I'm extremely particular - I doubt anyone else would have ever noticed). It was a painless process from start to finish.

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

Bathtub Refinishing reviews in El Cajon,

Due to the lack of response and no show, we contacted 3 other vendors for our bathroom and came back with 3 estimates that were considerably lower than

's. We chose and scheduled a contractor on Angie's List and will see how it goes.

The entire process was performed quickly and the results were outstanding. The tub looked brand new.

explained what should and shouldn't be done during the next 24 hours and left information for me to review....More /> I would certainly used this vendor again.

Between a slightly racist comment and overbearing sales techniques, I can't recommend this company's North
El Cajon, Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
office. We live in an older home (1920's) with an original cast iron tub that is peeling. We filled out a form online to obtain an estimate for a bathtub liner, and we were called within an hour to schedule an in-home estimate. We are seeking different options for our bathroom (including a full remodel or just re-glazing the tub), so we just wanted to obtain an estimate for a bathtub liner so we could appropriately weigh all of our options. We made it clear that we were not interested in a surround and that we were only interested in a bathtub liner. They were very professional, but that's where the positive experience ended. On the day before our scheduled an appointment, the call center called to confirm the appointment and to "make sure that the 2nd homeowner would be home." They named him by name, which was very odd because the name was never given to this company. I know it's public information on the county website and I understand why they do this, but it was a little weird. The man arrived on time to provide what we thought was a quick estimate for a bathtub liner. We told him that we were in the beginning stages of exploring all options for improving our bathroom. We were also told that they don't do bathtub liners without surrounds, which begged the question of why didn't the call center tell us this. His sales technique was to point out how all of the other options were bad options: a) a full bathroom remodel would cost $16k, b) other bathfitter-type companies offer a subpar service, and c) reglazing the tub would cost over $1k. While I can't vouch for other bathfitter-type companies' services, his estimates for other services were just plainly incorrect based on the size of the bathroom (small) and the estimates we had already obtained. It got progressively more uncomfortable as he tried to explain how Home Depot and Lowes subcontract out to the cheapest bidder. While we already knew this, it crossed a line when he said, "Getting good customer service at Home Depot is like getting customer service from Laquisha at 7/11." I was dumbfounded that this came out of his mouth. It got more uncomfortable when he looked through his book of prior customers, found a neighbor across the street, called them, put them on speaker phone (not telling them that we were listening) and asked them if they were happy with their bathfitter system. While I question the ethics of using this tactic, it was actually more uncomfortable when he pointed out after the call how cranky she sounded. He also proceeded to insult the quality of the windows that we had installed 8 years ago and the caulking job in the bathroom, and he couldn't fathom that someone would want to live in a house in Lakewood long-term. When it came time to get a written estimate, we were provided with a $6600 price tag. Keep in mind that we called to get an estimate for a bathtub liner. When he asked for our business (as expected for any salesperson), and we informed him that we weren't ready to make a decision, he got agitated. He demanded to understand what unanswered questions we had and why we weren't willing to commit. When I pointed out that we never make decisions the same day (and I gave him two examples involving granite countertops and refinishing hardwood floors), he questioned whether the issue was money. When we said "no," he pointed out that they had financing options. When we said that we don't finance anything (and to be honest, money wasn't really the issue), he talked down to us by saying, "there's bad credit, and there's good credit." When we proceeded to thank him again for giving us an estimate and that it was helpful information, he told us that we shouldn't have called them if we weren't ready to commit to a project. He quickly packed his bag, told us that he only gets 4% of his business from customers who call back, and left. He was at our house from 6:30 - 8:00pm. While they may have a very good product, we would never purchase anything from them based on their sales techniques.

El Cajon, Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
does a good job and the office staff and owner are responsive & professional.
Depending on the technician, you can get a good job, but the material has its limits. I also think the minimum price for a cosmetic scratch or chip is a tad on the high side for minor repairs, but if you need a lot of work, the price may be OK. (Price went up to $185 from $165 last year.)
Unfortunately, in my experience, this type of finish doesn't hold up that well, so despite the skill of the applicators, when at all possible, I'm switching to powder coating. If I cannot have an item powder coated I would definitely call
El Cajon, Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
for an estimate.
Be sure to insist the worker uses an exhaust fan because the fumes are fierce.

I spoke to

Overall, it was a great experience.

is very professional and communicated with me via text message, which is very convenient on the day of the install. He showed up on time and finished a little earlier than planned. In the end, I had a brand new bath tub and shower without lifting a finger. I would use him again.
