What's the secret to keeping the water sparkling blue instead of nasty green?
Owning a swimming pool may seem like a dream come true. But others who have gone through the building and servicing process offer cautionary tales.
One of the most confounding problems that swimming pool owners face is water loss.
You will have to find out what your model costs new - looks like they run from about $400 to 1700 depending on size. IF yours is at the lower end, might be just as cheap to replace it, with parts and labor. If not low end, then repair probably works. Typical pricing of components that might have gone out - switch $80, timer/control unit $130, heating element $100 (probably most likely to have failed) - so if only one of these went out, figuring $100-200 labor, probably cheaper to fix it. I would contact your dealer for a better idea.
BTW - here is a Saunatec instruction on maintenance on the heating element and rocks, failure to follow can shorten heating element life, if that is what went out (and probably the simplest to replace) -

- I received quotes from Rising Sun and from I contacted was completely booked and unavailable.
- Communication was not
- While the initial timeline changed, in the end the work was completed a few days earlier than the final plan called for - a pleasant surprise that readied the pool just in time for us to enjoy it for the weekend.
Our pool is spotless, free of algae and any other problems.
Since he couldn't fix the problem he referred me to a pool electrical guy that was over soon after and he told me the voltage was off - same as Clay - and would get back to me with quote for repair. Clay had ball-parked $1000 with the caveat several times that he didn't really know, this second guy said $500 but when Clay called it was $1825 paying cash and $2000 if by credit. Wanted to put a whole new line through attic and dig trench to the pool. Wow! Upon dealing further with this other guy (different company) I found out he wanted cold hard cash ($1,825!) not a check - with less than one day notice. At this point there are several red flags in my head but I ignored and actually tried to see if I could get that much cash (stupid). When my husband hears later about all this he insisted I cancel immediately (smart). Totally unprofessional to ask for cash, no written quote, do next day with no time to think etc. so I cancelled. Clay called after that to confirm cancellation and ask if he could send someone else but we said we already had someone else who came and replaced the breakers for $112 and the pump came back on.
I am sure Clay is just fine if you need general pool service but I felt I had to share this experience since it felt like a combined hoodwink of this naive woman with this other guy. Not cool, and I certainly will not ever call this company again. Learned some painful lessons about dealing with service people.
