and we couldn't have been more pleased. She went above and beyond with our vehicle. She took the time to make sure it was done correctly. She could have just made the key, but the she didn't leave until she figured out whey the alarm on our vehicle kept going off.
I appreciated the professionalism!
As is the case with most deadbolt locks, the interior side of the deadbolt cylinder is operated by a small knob I believe is called a thumbturn. The thumbturn locks/unlocks the deadbolt from the inside. My Medeco thumbturn came off. It appears to be held onto the lock mechanism by a tiny screw which has apparently failed. My Medeco deadbolt thumbturn actually came off in my hand as I was trying to unlock my door one morning to leave my house for work. I couldn't get the thumbturn to reattach for even one final turn of the knob and was essentially locked in my home. I realize this may sound odd to those who don't live in a high-rise condominium, but I only have the one door to and from the hallway the leads to my unit. I had to call a neighbor, push my key under the door, and have the neighbor unlock the deadbolt from the outside in order to exit my home. This strikes me as a significant design flaw in the Medeco lock. What if I had been trying to exit due to a fire? Luckily this incident only resulted in my being late to work that day.
Since only authorized Medeco dealers can obtain replacement parts for Medeco locks, including the tiny little screw that holds the thumbturn in place, I called

If anyone is considering a Medeco lock, they should also be aware that only the Medeco authorized dealer who installs the lock set is authorized to make duplicate keys in the future. Not even other Medeco authorized dealers can make replacement keys for a Medeco lock installed by another authorized Medeco dealer. I am not in need of additional keys but I think this information might be helpful to others in that once a customer has selected a Medeco lock and dealer they are pretty much stuck with that same Medeco dealer until such time that they opt to replace the lock altogether.
At this point I'm not sure what I'll do to get my Medeco lock thumbturn repaired. I may just end up replacing it altogether with a different brand. One thing is certain, I am not going to spend another $250 with
I needed to leave and my significant other arrived about 10 minutes later and saw that he had installed one with a lock. She asked if the lock could be used accidentally to lock other people out, since we have tenants that come in out. Since some door locks unlock when the small handle bolt (not deadbolt I don't remember the name of the part) that goes into the wall from the door when it is closed, so it can only be locked once you are outside and the door is closed. He said it could not happen accidentally, so we thought that meant it was the type of lock I just described. However when I got home and tested the door after he left, I locked it then closed the door with me outside, and I had to go around back. Obviously at some point a tenant would be careless and turn the lock, which would mean everyone would be locked out that didn't have or know how to get a backup key.
I called and explained the miscommunication and they sent someone a day or two later and replaced it with a handle with no lock at no additional charge. However I think the new handle was a bunch cheaper and they didn't give any of that money back, so there was in effect a
Nonetheless they came back and kindly fixed it without a direct charge, and the door lock works correctly now, so overall I am happy.
