"My husband and I decided we were capable of installing our own replacement windows. We did a few ...... we decided we really weren't very good at windows." I called 3 local companies for bids and went with AWP. Their bid was quite a bit higher than the other two companies but I liked all the "A" reviews on Angie's List. We also liked the fact that AWP is a family owned business located in Pasadena. I am 100% satisfied with our new windows and the service provided by AWP. I don't think they have the communication skills of a national franchise but I'm willing to cut them a little slack since they aren't a giant conglomerate with lots of customer service reps on the payroll ready to return calls. The crew was excellent! They were on time and worked during a cold front with wind and rain. They didn't even slow down. We had them back out to install a window that was measured a little incorrectly (stuff happens) and they took the time to make the windows WE installed look nicer by placing trim around them and caulking all the way around. Now our windows look almost as nice as theirs! The job was completed when they said it would, for the price quoted and the guys cleaned everything up so well you can't tell we had any work done.

"I will try to keep this short and pithy. At the end of the day we got a good quality door/product. However to get there was a very frustrating process. We ordered" the doors and we had to follow up a couple times even when we were told that we would be contacted as soon as the doors came in. Then finally they came to install and
said it would be a few hours and then done. Well not quite. When the installer came to install the main door there was a screen door we also ordered so we asked about that and of course he knew nothing about that. So only the main door was installed and the other door wasn't until the next day. Then we noticed there was a part of the trim which was missing after installation at the bottom of the door on the inside (so we could just see into the floor a little bit). So we called and made an appointment for
to come out to fix. So I stayed home from work (the appointment was at 9:00). At 9:15 nothing so I tried calling Legacy and no answer. I waited a little longer, still nothing. So at 9:45 I left a very direct message since I was very frustrated at that point and
never returned my call. I called again about 10:45 very upset and he answered so he basically ignored my initial voicemail. When I told him that I stayed home from work for our appointment, his first reaction was that an appointment wasn't made to which I said yes absolutely it was and that it needed to be fixed that day (since it had been well over a week since the doors were installed). When he arrived he did admit that yes indeed an appointment was made. He came and looked at it and of course said yes they missed a part then he went to a store to buy the part and came and took 5 minutes to install and then finally the process was done. All Legacy employees/contractors I met with were very nice and good to work with it was just
's communication which was our issue. Maybe he was just having a bad few weeks or perhaps the fact that we are fairly young homeowners he thought he could take advantage of us, we
’t know. I do know that we didn't enjoy dealing with him after we made the order (of course during the sales process he was fine). I would not say I wouldn't use them again since at the end of the day we got a good product which is obviously most important. I would, however, get some quotes with a couple other companies as well and if we did use Legacy again we would make sure up front to let him know our expectations and I would recommend anybody else who uses him after reading this review do the same.

Angie's Answers

?

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Cheers!

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

?

+1

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

?

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

?

Thermal numbers look okay when looking at the NFRC.

Do you have any other data on them?  Air infiltration, Design Pressure, Visible Transmittance, and Condensation Resistance are all good evaluators.

http://www.mercuryexcelum.com/images/customer-files/Advantage.pdf

Air infiltration rate is way high at 0.21.

It may look nice in person but the performance numbers are below average.

AWS handled all interactions with the insurance company. They arrived on time each day, worked hard and cleaned up when they left. The job was completed on time and budget. They could not have been more professional and did first class work.

North Little Rock Window Installers Provider Name Locked
, a 60 year old local company in Berea. A+ windows and service. They gave me a good price and took time to demonstrate the window before I bought. Kept in touch before and after. Arrived on time on the scheduled date and cleaned up after. The installers were very professional and did a great job. They also make doors. I highly recommend

Salesman
North Little Rock Window Installers Provider Name Locked
was helpful and knowledgable. HCR had a very reasonable quote and also secured great financing for the job. HCR was able to come out before a snow storm to remove and install the roof in timely manner. Their work crew was professional and courteous. They did a great job with the removal and install and left no sign that a major work project had taken place. Very happy with the overall experience working with them. I would recommend them and also plan to have them work on a couple other projects.

The experience was fantastic, From the beginning Grant was very upfront about cost and allowances. He made sure we had enough built in for all our allowances so we would not go over on our final cost. They used very professional and courtesy sub contractors and
North Little Rock Window Installers Provider Name Locked
did all the finish work themselves. Everything moved along very smoothly and Grant was always available when we had questions.

North Little Rock Window Installers Provider Name Locked
is the consummate professional and business owner. He arrived promptly and gave us a bid to replace all windows in our downstairs. This was no easy job as we have 6 floor to ceiling windows downstairs along with the remaining 9 standard sliding windows. He showed me how the windows were constructed, explained the technology, warranties and answered all questions. We gave the business to
North Little Rock Window Installers Provider Name Locked
because of his integrity, he is the business owner, he is on the job doing the work and I knew that I could trust his workmanship and his ethics. He was professional, responsive and paid attention to detail. When I asked him about splitting the job up into two jobs to spread the cost out over time, he said we could do it however it suited our budget. He came when he said he would and did the job in one day with the help of one of his employees. They did a beautiful job, cleaned up after themselves, even vacuumed. When the job was complete he gave me a printed invoice along with the waiver. We are to do the second half in April/May. The day that he was scheduled to come it was a very cold, bitter day but he said they would be able to do the work. He was on the job at 8:30 and the job completed by 5:00 p.m. the same day. Also, they got the measurements right the first time and there was no delay in scheduling. In fact the windows came in early. I highly recommend

and his company. If you are doing replacement windows, do yourself a favor and call

I called
North Little Rock Window Installers Provider Name Locked
to check on whether the glass could be replaced and what it would cost. The windows had been installed before we purchased the house and we have lived here for over 5 years.
North Little Rock Window Installers Provider Name Locked
called back in a timely manner with the information and told me how long it would take to order the glass and how long it would take to put the glass in once I brought the frame in. They did give me the option of having a serviceman come to my home but they also instructed me as to how to get the window out of the frame if I wanted to bring it in. Everything happened just the way they said. I waited for them to put the glass in and wasn't there 20 minutes before I had my window back good as new. They are a friendly bunch at
North Little Rock Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and I will definitely use them again if and when we need window service.
