"I met with Ayk and Ertan toward the end of October to get a quote to level my kitchen hallway floor which had sagged due to settling. I also wanted to get the kitchen" renovated and have one full and one half bathroom renovated. I really appreciated that they arrived exactly when they said they would, took pictures, had suggestions, and then took ten minutes or so to come up with a quote. I really liked that instead of having to wait a few days or week for a quote! I was so impressed with them and their manner that I decided to go ahead with the project. I went to their showroom in Old Town,
the following Sunday, to pick out granite, cabinets, flooring and bathroom fixtures. It was wonderful that all of it was available there, in one place. Ertan, the designer, had completed some 3-D computer drawings for the renovations, which made the visualization so much easier! They also served me delicious Turkish coffee, of which I am very fond. The work began as they promised right before Thanksgiving. My project manager was Emre K. and he has been wonderful through the whole project-always willing to do whatever is needed to help me out through the construction phase. He even moved some of the furniture I was getting rid of out to the garage and put together bar stools that I had ordered for the new counter. He and Ayk helped me to clear out the kitchen cabinets before the renovation started; a great help with a daunting task. I was so surprised and glad that throughout the renovations my emails and/or phone calls were ALWAYS responded to within the same day, often within the hour. That kind of reliability is outstanding and gratifying.
and his construction team were at the house everyday, even Saturdays, so the work continued smoothly and continuously. Again, I have never experienced such reliability from contractors. I was so pleased with their work that I met with Ayk to set up new projects 2,3 and 4! This included renovating two more bathrooms, installing carpet in the family room, pulling up carpet in the rest of the house to refinish the underlying hardwood floors, painting most of the rooms and ceilings in the house, fixing an outdated and corroded circuit box, fixing plumbing that had been incorrectly or negligently installed in the first place, installing overhead lighting in 2 rooms and the upstairs hallway, and correcting various electrical issues that came up in the course of the work. We finished the projects at the end of January 2015-exactly when Ayk said they would. I am so pleased with all the work and with the responsiveness of the whole team of people at SKB that I would whole heartedly recommended them to everyone. Once all the work was completed, Ayk came through with Emre and marked all the spots he felt needed some finishing touches-he found more than I did and as a write this, that work will be completed tomorrow. I met most of the team at SKB throughout the projects, and they became like a family to me, particularly Aik (
), Ertan, Emre K and the lead construction manager,
. I always felt that they cared about me and my house, and were invested in getting it exactly the way I wanted it to be. When the refinishing of the floors caused odors that would make it uncomfortable for me to sleep in the house, the company put me up in a local hotel for a few days. That type of courtesy, kindness and generosity makes me feel like family. It has been a wonderful experience to work with SKB! I have nothing but good feelings about the past 2 months of renovation and the house is absolutely beautiful. I can't say too often how wonderful, considerate, talented, reliable and fair
and Baths is as a team and as individuals. The price was very fair, the work impeccable and I am so pleased with the outcome.

"All went very well. the design was perfect. I love my kitchen and now enjoy every minute of cooking in it. All who worked on the kitchen were very professional" and excellent at their jobs. They knew what they were doing. After all was completed, they sent someone to clean! How often does one experience that! I will definitely use them again and recommend them to others. I was never disappointed.

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

They did a great job and will definitely use them again. Nick came out to do an estimate on the job - he was on time and very professional. It was obvious he had experience with decks and gave me some options on how to fix the deck that wouldn't break the bank. He followed up with a quote, and was able to source a pressure treated replacement beam that fit perfectly within the space and last a very long time. He scheduled the job around my calendar and showed up with his team, all very professional and courteous. They took out the old beam and installed the new one very quickly. They even added flashing prevent water from pooling on the top of the beam and hopefully ensuring no more rot. I really appreciated the extras like the flashing and treatment of the remaining beam. They left the jobsite clean and took everything away. I will definitely call on Nick again!

Because of too much weight in the closet, clothes rack pulled about 6 feet of sheet rock from wall.
Eureka Springs Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
repaired the sheetrock, mudded and fixed it so it looks new. I had him forgo sand and painting because another portion of the closet still had clothes hanging up. Being a closet with clothes this was a nonissue. He installed about six feet of horizontal 2 x 4 to existing structure. He then mounted an additional 2 brackets (3 total) to ensure stability. All done professionally. His price was extremely modest and reasonable for the service performed. He works in the northwest Florida area. I was so impressed with his work and cost I have lined up two more projects for him to do as he has time to fit them in. I highly recommend this personable and professional handyman.

First of all, this is the second time I've used
Eureka Springs Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
for flood cleanup. First time was
Eureka Springs Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
2008 (as Hawaii Restorative). Total cost then for both the clean up AND the complete repair, including reinstalling damaged hard wood flooring was under $50,000. They did pretty good job getting the place cleaned up, cleared out, even helping us pack boxes they provided and get everything in to the POD. So I have no issues with that. The first time we used them, they did a good job with everything and they had the house back in order in about 4 weeks or so. The problem this time was they have an alleged job estimator,
Eureka Springs Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, who never set foot on site, to my knowledge, yet he estimated the costs to the moon! He included items that never existed in my house and items that weren't damaged; I don't know if this was done to inflate the bill, but that is my suspicion! Why, you ask? Because the TOTAL cost of cleanup and repair for the first job, in 2008, was less than $50K. This time, they got not only $22K for the clean up (which to be fair did include a 20 foot dumpster, help with packing boxes and loading them in the POD (had 2 of these the first time) and which is still in my drive as I write this), but they wanted....$91,000 to do the repairs!!! I just got them all done with several different companies for a total of about $28,000. This time, the entire scope of work was almost identical to the scope of work as in 2008, with exception of replacing kitchen cabinets (which were simply removed, cleaned, dried out and replaced last time). Why so high? Because the estimator
Eureka Springs Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, again added in many line items of work to the scope that wasn't needed, wouldn't be done, was too many linear feet (like molding amounts for example), and so on. According to his measurements, my house was closer to 1300 SF instead of 1100! All my rooms grew by at least 6 " to a foot in width on every wall. When I asked
Eureka Springs Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, the project manager, about the excess costs and annotated the estimates to get rid of all that extra stuff, he told me it was standard. I told him, it was not existing in my house or wouldn't be done so why would they charge me for it? Bottom line, I did NOT hire them to come in and do the repair work in my house. Would I use them again? Only for clean up-they were very fast in their response and did a good job. But now I know from National Flood Insurance Program folks that 3 days is all that is needed to dry out a house, NOT 10 days, and an extra $800 on my electric bill, which is normally less than 50 bucks since I have a big PV system on my roof. ,

Could not have gone better. Kamran was there the whole time overseeing the operation. And he worked as well as overseeing. He really knows his business.
First shower: In addition to completely redoing the shower, they changed out my sink faucets (at a reasonable charge). And at no charge they changed out the towel racks etc. to match the new brushed nickel shower head. The second shower was smaller and no problem with accessories.
Kamran is extremely responsive to any and all questions I had. I would definitely recommend him and

without any hesitation.

Andrey was great to work with -- he was punctual, professional, and thorough. He cut out multiple bands of accent tile in a master bath surround and in the master shower, and replaced them with new tile accent bands. He also re-grouted the shower tiles and re-caulked all of the wall seams. The work, which spanned over two days, was done neatly and efficiently. And with the exception of some bowing in spots where the accent tile does not sit exactly straight on the wall, the job looks very good.
