"Believed I was contracting with a full service kitchen remodeler, however
only provided services of cabinet demolition, cabinet design, and" cabinet install. The showroom for the business is run out of the home of the owner. He stated it cuts down costs, but it makes interactions awkward. An example of the awkwardness was during the design phase we sat in a "computer room" of the house and interactively reviewed / updated the design. Another time at the owners house we needed to review some design changes and needed to sit in the formal dining room because a family member was using the computer. Later on I learned that cabinet design and install is not the owners only occupation. The first quote I received for signature was full of caveats for products I was not purchasing. When I called this to his attention the owner,
, he did make modification to the quote to remove the things that did not apply to the remodeling of my kitchen. One item that was removed from the original quote draft and not in the signed quote was that I needed to pay an hourly rate for appliance installation. The quote process was "unpolished" and was a work in progress. I believed I was getting a general contractor with
, but after laying out a few thousand dollars I discovered that I also had to manage and pay some of the additional needed contractors (flooring, window install, plumber, electrician). Some quotes came in stating that Sandwich Kitchen was the customer while other quotes listed me as the customer.
first wanted an additional18% on top of each contractor quote, but later reduced the price to 15% of the contractors estimate. For the 15%
recommended contractors, scheduled meetings with the contractors to provide quotes, and published an overall project schedule to me and the contractors. The counter top vendor was handled differently.
signed the estimate and handled all interactions between the counter top vendor and himself. The counter top vendor was paid by
and was part of the written quote given me by
. This was a source of confusion for me. A few times
asked us what style and color of cabinets we wanted to order after we sat down and decided with
writing down the cabinet style and color. This cause us to travel to his home / showroom to verify the cabinet choices again. A provision in the quote that later became a problem was that all appliances needed to be on-site before demolition of the kitchen. We did purchase new appliances (oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator) as part of the remodel. The appliance store normally delivers and installs the appliances in the kitchen. These appliances needed to be stored in the garage until the remodel was complete. I paid the normal deliver fee to the appliance dealer.
verbally told me that he would move the appliances from the garage and into the kitchen. Below I will explain why this became a problem. The flooring contractor removed an existing linoleum floor and installed wood floor in the kitchen. He needed to refinish all connecting wood floors to blend in the new floor. The contractor misread
's schedule and we lost almost an entire day in the remodeling project because of the contractor's mistake. Toward the end of the kitchen remodel, two issues we had with the kitchen were: length and width of the kitchen sink counter top opening and one piece of molding around the refrigerator. The counter top opening is 1" smaller that the sink specified width and 3/4" smaller than the sink length. This keeps us from finding a in-sink strainer which fits these sinks. The loss of width and length should have been brought to our attention. The second issue was a piece of molding to the right of the refrigerator that did not look as professional as the rest of the kitchen. We had a discussion with
over what could be done. It was clear to me that
did not view these two issues as a problem. My wife and I decided to drop the molding issue rather than pursue it further with
. Once
felt the cabinet build was done he had a very different attitude towards us. He became very short a abrupt and explained to me, on one occasion, that there is a certain type of individuals that just wants to complain. Our flooring contractor recommended that after a final coat of poly was placed on the floor to wait a few days before moving heavy appliances across the floor.
has offered to move the appliances from the garage to the kitchen. Based on the flooring contractor recommendation I delayed having
move the appliances for a few days. On the day he agreed to move the appliances he stated he would be over around noon,
called that morning and said he had a family appointment and would show up around 3 pm. At 5 pm he finally arrived with a helper. When I mentioned to him I expected him at 3 pm, he brought up my delay from the time the cabinets were done to when I wanted the appliances moved. (Remember the flooring contractors told me to hold off on moving heavy pieces across the floor for a few days to let the poly to cure.) The refrigerator was moved to the center of the kitchen and the range was brought into the kitchen. His worker was cut by the
as he set it down in the kitchen.
and the worker left to get the worker medical attention. I was left with the install of the kitchen range.
had done all the measuring to insure the appliance fit and was not around for the large appliance installs. The range proved to be difficult because the back on the counter top was lower than the front. The range install needed to be done that evening since the range was in the middle of the floor an the plumber was due early next day to install the dishwasher, the kitchen sink drains, kitchen faucet, and make the water connection to the refrigerator. The plumber helped me move the refrigerator into the opening. Final appliance leveling was left to me.
provided a very good design, listened and reacted to our comments and concerns during the design phase. He was a true craftsman with the installation of the cabinets. He worked long hours during the install of the cabinets, even both days of a weekend. However, once the cabinets were installed and
determined he was done he requested immediate final payment. Final payment was approximately 6% of the total cost of the kitchen. This change in
was unexpected and caught me off guard. Because of this change in his attitude I have reservations before engaging
for future work.

"His van pulled into my driveway at 7 pm Saturday night and he unloaded his ladder and proceeded to the skylight section of my home. He was up there a while so" I was expecting him to work up a quote to be sent to me. About 20 minutes later, he came off the roof and took the ladder down. He told me that it was all fixed. I was expecting a bill but he said that it was no charge and that I should contact him if I have any further trouble. Wow! True service and with a smile too!

Not really.  If the contractor is very careful and you are really lucky he might be able to pull them out and then reinstall them after the new cabinets are installed.  A lot of this will have to do with how well the counters were installed in the first place.  Also, the existing countertops may not line up with the new cabinets exactly in some areas as well as they do now.  The better option is to have the cabinets refaced, leaving the boxes and tops in place.  Unlless you have deteriorating particle board cabinets you should be able to get a carpenter to do this.  If you decide to remove the countertops and install new cabinets factor in new tops and be pleasantly surprised if they can be reinstalled afterall.  Realize you probably won't find a contractor willing to gurantee not damaging the tops.  If you do, dig in and research him well.  He likely doesn't have enough experience.

IF dirty enough to make for a musty odor, then paint won't stick to them properly anyway. Paint is not your solution - you probably need a Deep Cleaning. Try to pin down what types of smell it is - if damp, mildewy; rotten food; or musty fabric - will help guide you to the source maybe. Another thing to do is keep all doors closed for a full day when outside temp is such that furnace and A/C can be turned off - then walk around the house, sniffing - preferably with 2 people - and see if one room is the major contributor. I have played this game, and found all the following as sources of musty smells: 1) linen in a closet without ventilation going slightly mildewy 2) water leak in walls or floors enough to cause mold but not drywall staining or visible water 3) carpets needing cleaning 4) water leak in bath or kitchen leaking under floor, causing mold there which is not pronounced in smell because under the flooring 5) attic mildew/mold from leaks or moisture condensation on insulation/wood 6) moldy plants outside - left in garden/flower bed in fall, so rotted in winter/spring 7) clothes in closets touching outside wall, so in very cold weather acted as insulator and let freezing front come to inside of wall, causing frost and moisture to buildup there from the inside moisture, eventually causing mildew/mold (same process as condensation/ice on inside of windows with curtains over them) 8) failure to clean behind kitchen appliances and under sink, or under washer/dryer/dishwasher at least when repaired or changed out 9) heavy lint accumulation in bathroom fan going mildewy 10) grease trap in kitchen exhaust fan never cleaned 11) washing machine going moldy - run a cycle of towels or such with bleach and Borax 12) the number one cause I have found - clothes stacked in closets or hope chests or such for decades get very musty even if clean and ventilated

As long as the counter is big enough Corian is one of the easier ones to work with. Since it does not have the ground or crushed stone that some of the other material have you can work with normal woodworking tools. A saw with a fine tooth carbide blade and a professional grade router with the proper shaped carbde bit can be used if the edge needs finishing. A belt sander helps on cuts also. The only problem you might have is if you need the joint kits for seaming as I dont think you can buy them.

When Corian first came out I could buy the slabs and fabricate my own tops and then Dupont went to a certified distributor system and would no longer sell to those of us that had been working with it for years. I will admit that they did have reasons for this as not all that were working with the product were doing it right.

worked with me over several months to plan out the details, provide several quotes and adjustments based on changing needs and wants, and provided suggestions where I had questions. Once the work was booked and scheduled,
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
showed up to the house promptly and began work. It was the middle of summer, so estimate of what could be accomplished on such days was not accurate, and did take a little longer than was anticipated. In addition, like all complex jobs, whenever there was an issue,
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
resolved to both our of satisfaction; whether it was a defect found during shipping or a defect from the manufacturer.
The outcome was a garage storage solution exactly as I had envisioned and

We needed cabinets to house our media. Due to the specific things we needed housed there were no flat pack type cabinets that fit the bill.
We took some rough measurements, a photo of a style we liked, the specifications for the interior drawer size we needed and went to Mr.

Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
was recommended to us by our contractor who had worked with them in the past.
We were able to quickly make an appointment at the showroom. Once there,
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
helped us decide on a style and candidly explained the pluses and minuses of the style we selected.
Then
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
helped us with the layout of the cabinets and actually recommended that we cut back on the number of cabinets that we had been thinking of (a good recommendation, by the way).
Once ordered, the cabinets arrived in excellent condition exactly when we requested them.
Let's see, a nice guy who knows his business and delivers a quality product on schedule and at a reasonable price. That about covers it!
You can be sure that I asked for a handful of his business cards.

It went VERY well. The staff did a very professional job of careful measurement, building/installing new cabinets, installing new appliances, correcting dated plumbing, installing

lighting, etc.
The cabinet quality of solid cherry wood is simply excellent. The work was done on time and within the budget estimate.
We visited the
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
offices on Butler Street to get suggestions on cabinet handles, woods, layouts, etc.
We were able to view the cabinets as they were being built in the shop behind the
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
offices. The process is very customized.
The design of the kitchen was not "rushed" - there were several computer created kitchen layout maps that we were able to review/modify, etc. We found the layout designer,

We were very concerned with hiring a cabinetmaker to make a spot for our dishwasher. Our biggest concern was the stain on the cabinet (matching it once cut out). We read some reviews about
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
and felt he would be good for the job. He was excellent! he was able to match the stain on the existing cabinet, made the cut-out for the dishwasher and also made a small storage area to the right of it. We would consider
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
for any future cabinet work and would recommend him to anyone looking for his services. Sorry for taking so long to review you

this is the third house we have renovated and the third cabinet contractor we have used. He is a pleasure to work with and a top professional woodworker. To date he has done three projects for us and we are now scheduling the fourth.
Toney Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
builds all elements of the cabinets from lumber in his extensive woodworking shop. He does not buy cabinet parts and assemble them like most cabinet contractors do. His quality is unapproachable and his attention to detail is incredible.
He had a some difficulty sticking to our original agreed-to schedule, his price is understandably higher than common cabinets assembled by a contractor but overall he is worth the wait and the price.
