"We were completely unsatisfied with the quality of the work performed on this project. Here are the details: Our general contractor selected this company to perform" the work. They came out and delivered new hardwood flooring for our kitchen, as part of our kitchen renovation. They installed the boards and feathered them into the existing hardwood floors in the dining room. So far, no issues. Then, they returned to strip all the floors and stain them to match. We had a golden oak color and had selected a darker color (chestnut) for the new stain. At the conclusion of the first day, they had stripped all the finish off the floors, but I had found several areas where some of the residual finish still remained. I pointed these out to my contractor, and he relayed the information to the flooring company. It was apparent at this point that our flooring vendor did not have much attention to detail. The following day, the company returned to apply the stain and then again to apply 2 coats of finish. During this time, we did not walk on the floors and could not inspect the work that was done. We were advised to stay off the floors for 7 days to allow them to cure, which we did. On the 7th day, we returned to the 2nd floor to find that there were areas of old finish that had not been removed and that the new finish was contrasting and unsightly in places; mostly on the stairs. Additionally, we found that the stain was noticeably darker in some areas than others, and that this change in darkness went opposite to the grain of the wood. From my limited woodworking experience, it appears that the stain was simply applied unevenly and against the grain of the wood. Our contractor contacted
, who came out to inspect the situation. He initially tried to tell us that it was due to variations in the wood, which is a complete fabrication. The variations in the stain went against the grain of the wood and boards side by side had the exact same variations on each end. He seemed hesitant to want to take any corrective actions and was making it sound like we were being too selective and that the results were as they should be.
reluctantly agreed that the kitchen, dining room and stairs would need to be refinished to correct the most serious issues we saw. After being off our floors for nearly 2 weeks, we wanted to move back in and were advised that we could do so, but that they would need to keep the 3 areas clear that were being refinished. While this allowed us to move our furniture back in, it did not give us any real access to the 2nd floor. The crew returned to strip and refinish the 3 areas. During this process, they spilled varnish on our tile entryway floor. From our visual inspection of the stairs, we could tell that the work was better, but could not see the rest of the 2nd floor for another 7 days.... so we waited... patiently. After 7-days, we returned to the 2nd floor to find that the wild variations in finish had been corrected, but that the overall
of the varnish was different. It was obvious which areas were done first and which had to be redone. It was so bad in fact, that we thought that one was done in satin and the 2nd done in semi-gloss. To add insult to injury, we found a dirty rag in our new stainless steel kitchen sink that was glued to the sink. It was obviously covered in stain and varnish and allowed to dry in place. After considerable effort, I was able to remove the rag and residue myself. Again, my GC requested that
come out to inspect the floor. When he returned, he told us that in order to get the same consistent finish that we would have to have vanished the entire floor at the same time. Why didn't he tell us that this was going to be an issue in the first place? At the end of the day, we accepted these results. It was simply too much hassle to take any further action. The workmanship was very poor, the customer service was terrible, and overall, I would never recommend using this provider... ever...

took several weeks to tie down to an appointment after much back and forth. He showed up and seemed knowledgeable and said he would get back" to us in a few days. I didn't hear back. Sent several emails, he responded once that he was waiting for a price from a vendor. Several more emails, no response. One final email asking if he was unable or unwilling to do the work to please just give me the courtesy of a response, He never did. His voicemail was always full so I couldn't leave messages. Quite frankly I have never seen such a lack of responsiveness from a company that is seemingly trying to earn your business.

Hardwood Flooring

There are few home improvement choices that add as much character and warmth — not to mention resale value — as hardwood flooring. But before hiring a flooring contractor to install or repair hardwood flooring, it’s important to know both its advantages and disadvantages.

From the wall street journal online:

"Etiquette and tipping experts agree that tipping a contractor and his employees isn't expected because contractors offer to do a job for you at a specific price. Any extra money they would want would be built into their bid. Also, it's a business relationship rather than one where they are performing a personal service for you like a waiter or a maid. But if the employees do extra jobs around the house, then experts say it is appropriate to tip a cash amount equivalent to the task; "tip gifts" such as cookies and drinks can count. "The key to tipping is whether or not it was outside the scope of what was normally expected," says Mark Brenner, author of "Tipping for Success!"

My opinion is that a little bit of courtesy (snacks, drinks, expression of appreciation etc.) goes a long way and upon completion of their work you feel compelled by a job well done to offer a little extra in the form of a tip - go for it, but do not feel obligated.
Agreed.  If you have existing cracking in porcelain you need to know the cause first.  I don't know of any reputable contractor that would dare install tile over existing tile.  Also, any manufacturer warranties for defects would be null due to improper installation.  Did the contractor offer this solution or did you ask for it?  The mear fact that he is agreeing to or offering it tells me you need to leave this guy for someone who knows what they are talking about before he does only half the job which will have to be redone in the near future, costing you more in the long run.

I get so many calls from customers that were talked into a "cheaper" way to do something only to find the work very sub-par.  The sad part is they are out the money they spent in the first place along with the additional amount I have to charge just to undo what the first contractor did before I can do it right.  This floor could end up costing you double what it should if it's not done right.

We are pleased with the overall results. We provided
Moody Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
with materials that are more difficult to install (butcher block and marble) and he was able to complete the job well.

Moody Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
was fantastic to work with. He was extremely thorough and completed the project on time. Floors look brand new.
Only cautionary tale would be, if you are redoing your hardwood floors, you had better be prepared for dust.
Moody Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
did a great job of mitigating this (Put up barriers all around) but it is DUSTY work.
Job well done!

Moody Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
did a beautiful job on the hardwood floors in the guest bedroom. We are refinishing our home one room at a time. This was our 3rd bedroom. We decided to have the existing hardwood floors refinished.
Moody Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
provided an estimate in a timely manner. Once we decided to go ahead with the project, he worked with us to select a date. He used a product that have very low odor so we didn't need to leave the house. The project was completed in two days and the floors are beautiful! We will use

when we are ready to remodel the next room.

Overall I would have to say this was a disappointing experience. I purchased a BigDeal and it took forever to get my project scheduled. I had a small job and maybe that's why it took so long. After the work was finally scheduled the job took 2 days to complete. Day 1 the floor was completely sanded & coat one laid down. However there was wood dust left over in places throughout the room. They need to clean their filters better before starting another job. To me, this is just plain laziness and unacceptable. Day 2, the second coat was applied, screened and clear-coated. After about two weeks I had noticed that they did not do a piece right in the doorway and a small strip behind the supply vent. It's actually the same piece of flooring. It looks horrible and I can't believe no one noticed it until well after the job was completed. We had carpet put down and those guys are the ones that pointed it out to us.. We were so embarrassed. I ended up doing that piece myself and it was a complete pain in the ***.

Had another floor guys bail out on me last minute ... Called Flavio on a SUNDAY and he came out that evening to look at the job. Flavio advised me of my best options and gave me a solid estimate. He was able to get it done the same week. Floors look like brand new wood floors now. He left the house clean and dust free just like before the job. Highly recommend. I will use Flavio again the next time i need floor work done.

They are excellent! He gives an accurate price quote. They work very fast. They remove all the furniture and clean up well after themselves. I would highly recommend them.
- Adam M.

I visited for a bid on 2 different jobs. It has been very difficult to get the estimates I have requested. The sales person I had worked with,
Moody Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
Hall, was unprofessional. I feel like if their service is this bad before the sale it could not be any better after the sale. I even called to speak with the manager 3-4 times and could never get a hold of him.
- Janis P.

We had a very good experience with them. They were an office shelve products so they have the product and what's not there they ship it to us when they said it would be there. In a couple of days we had everything and the floor was installed so it was very easy unlike Home Depot. They have good product and it was a very little wait. they were fine and they were responsive on the phone. They said they would be there in 2 days and 2 days they were there so we don't have any complains about there professionalism. The price was competitive.
