"We used
Construction for a full Kitchen remodel design put down on paper. Uzi came to the house 2 weeks prior to the final design review" to measure, take pictures, and pick our brains for what my wife and I were visualizing for our space. He did a great job and the design exceeded our expectations. I hope to be able to move forward and continue to do business together to complete the whole remodel along with the other remodel projects that we have coming up in the future.

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

We couldn't be more pleased with the work and professionalism. The entire team exceeded our expectations. He personally oversaw the entire project and had fantastic people working for him on it. Both

and
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
are top notch trustworthy people who made us feel comfortable thru the whole process. The work was beautiful from start to finish, they worked around our scheduling needs, and responded to all of our questions. While we had priced out several quotes we went with
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
because of his reputation and he had done work for us before. We found cheaper quotes out there but the quality and professionalism are definitely worth paying for. Great people, great craftsmanship, great service. Highly recommend

I am shocked to see an "A" rating for this company on
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. We performed a kitchen remodel with them and at first
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, all was well. Geoff was responsive, and the quality and price seemed fair. But we quickly found ourselves in butting heads with a foreman who appeared to have never done a kitchen remodel before. The overall pre-work and planning was sloppy and not thought through. Very
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
details were overlooked, wrong parts ordered, and reordered. The attention to detail by the work crew was not satisfactory - and re-work upon re-work took place - some of it never actually completed. As the process progressed and we were severely off schedule, Geoff became very short with us, for issues that were not our fault at all. In fact issues which we were crystal clear about in the planning process. My husband eventually had to "regulate" the relationship. Overall, sloppy planning, sloppy execution and quality, lots of re-work, and an attitude by the owner and foreman. It was not a pleasant experience, to say the least. Ultimately, I believe Geoff has his crews working on way too many jobs/customers, simultaneously - and customer service and quality are the sacrifice. It was interesting, and somewhat insulting that our kitchen was featured as a "gorgeous custom kitchen remodel" by the company on its social media channels - taking credit for all the design choices and decisions that we had to force the contractor to perform. We are mostly happy with the final product, but had we not acted as quality control and insisted on re-work the result would have been very different.

Six years ago my husband and I contracted with
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
Builders for a remodeled kitchen. We had looked in a lot of showrooms and at a lot of pictures so we had specific things in mind when we had three contractors each come to our home and give estimates. We told Mr.
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
at this first meeting our concerns about space and storage because our kitchen is very small. When my husband and I spoke of a specific color of vinyl flooring, Mr.
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
suggested a ceramic flooring in the same color for the same price. We liked this suggestion and was the main reason we chose
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. We could see Mr.
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
knew his business, but he did some things we did not like. He said the job would take five days. It took three weeks. He seemed to have other things going on and actually lied once about coming one day and finding no one home. We were both home. Another day Mr.
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
told us he would be putting new drywall on the largest wall. We were sitting in the next room assuming everything was okay, but after he left we realized he had put new drywall over old drywall. This was a major concern to us because----as we had had said in the beginning---our kitchen is very small. This made the room even smaller. My husband who is every handy himself
, never dreamed anyone would do anything like that. In short, Mr.
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
knows his business, but his focus is not on the concerns of his clients.
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
's focus is on his own convenience.
I "...never dreamed anyone would do anything like that.". Eight months later the veneer peeled away from the end cabinet. My husband called
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to come to see the problem.
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
came and made an appointment with my husband to glue the veneer back. After
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
failed to show up for the appointment, my husband wrote a formal complaint to the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. Some time later---apparently after Commission notification
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
called to install a new cabinet! We remembered
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
had received an " inside" cabinet by mistake but said it would be alright because he had veneer to glue on.

Two years ago we moved into a two bedroom, one bath home. we contacted
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to add a second bathroom in the basement
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
helped us design this bathroom, approximately 9ft. by 9ft., so it functions very well, and with room for a four foot glassed in shower. This included everything from
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
hammering the floor for the drains, to running the water lines, electrical, framing, insulation, and sheetrock! This year he finished the rest of the basement by making a legal third bedroom downstairs, connecting to the bathroom, by installing an egress window, two closets, plus adding a dividing wall as well gave us an extra large space for whatever we choose!
Loxley Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
did the framing, electrical, sheetrock, and all the trim work. It is a very functional place, very quiet, and stays very cool during these hot days, So now we have a legal three bedroom, two bath home, which really adds value.

Swendsrud and his crew did an excellent job on both jobs. He helped with ideas and thoughts that made both these spaces very usable and enjoyable. We would recommend
