"The installer was polite and neat. It took a few days to install and make sure that everything was working properly. The window breaks needed some minor adjustments" after the installation was running, but Supreme responded immediately. The system was expensive but that was our choice, we had some very specific needs. They offer various types of systems and various costs. Since installation, I can only say they are they are extremely responsive to us. Recently, the cable went out and we were called. Then due a heavy rain storm our electrical power went out and we were called. Our painter during the painting of the exterior of our home, accidentally set off the alarm and they called us first to see if we were okay and needed the police. Every one of these calls have occurred within 1 or 2 minutes of the alarm going off. I call this excellent service. We would highly recommend
Service for all of your alarm needs.

"Initially I called
number listed on Angie's list – sometime in August. Person told me to go to their website and fill out a" form. Website: http://www.nexlar.com/ I filled out the form asking to configure both an existing system and cameras. Additionally, I asked to install the controls for the cameras on my computer. For a long time – they did not respond, I put another request – still nothing!!! I called the number listed on the website. Nexlar found my request, profusely apologized and told me that someone will call to set an appointment. Again, nobody called. I called again and the Nexlar person answering the phone set an appointment for Friday, September 11, 2 pm. As always, nobody showed up or called. Today, I called to check why nobody come by. I was told, that ‘they
’t do residential only commercial properties’!!!! If you read the description on the Angie’s list it says: “
Camera offers wide variety of security systems & services in
, Texas for RESIDENTIAL as well as commercial usages”. During the last phone conversation I was told that ‘I was given an estimate by phone – a lie!! If they
’t service residential – why is in their description in Angie’s list listed as ‘residential and commercial’???? The final questions are – how does an unreliable company, which neither responds to a request written on their website nor honor their own verbal commitment is able to provide any type of security???? Why they are even listed on Angie’s list????

How Much Does it Cost to Install a Home Security System?

Securing your home is important, but how much does it cost install a security system?

10 Questions to Ask Your Home Security Provider

The security of your home is important. Ask these questions before you make a hire.

Look for a home security company that makes your family's safety a top priority, says Perez. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Gregory P. of New York)

On this episode of Chat with the Experts, Armando Perez of Hoosier Security explains the importance of home security systems and what options are available.

You return home from work to find your door forced open. "Surely not a burglary!" you exclaim to yourself.

adjusting a hardwired smoke detector
Alarms, , Electrical

Dear Angie: How often do I need to replace my hard-wired smoke detectors? And who should I hire to do this? Our 15-year-old system has five detectors. A few are chirping, and it doesn’t stop even when we replace the batteries. – Michael G., Benbrook, Texas

Angie's Answers

I second the original question (still unanswered). Speaking as someone who logged in today to try to find an attorney, I see this category as one that's exactly what I have my Angie's List membership for:

1. It's important that I find a good one
2. I'm not an expert enough to know myself who is a good one
3. The industry is full of advertisements and misinformation
4. I wish I knew what experiences other people have had

I don't care about lawns--I planted mine in clover and don't have to mow it. When I do need to mow I use a rotary Fiskars mower, which is great--or a scythe. That's right--a scythe (the European type, which is smaller, and it's very good exercise). Gas-powered mowers, chemical fertilizers and weed killers--all nasty stuff that gets into everyone's air, soil, and water. I'm sure my neighbor doesn't like my wildflowers, semi-wild pockets of fruit bushes, and unmown areas and yes, dandelions (I have 10 acres) but that's too bad. It's better habitat for wildlife, especially the pollinators on which our food supply depends. I think this obsession with the Great American Lawn is a waste of time and resources. Plant some food instead.

I'm not sure Angie et. al. want you to have a complete answer to this question. By re-subscribing at the Indiana State Fair in 2012, I think I paid $20.00 per year for a multi- year subscription. Maybe even less. At the other extreme--and I hope my memory isn't faulty about this--I think the price, for my area, for ONE year was an outrageous $70.00. And they debited me automatically without warning. I had to opt out of that automatic charge. I like Angie's List, but if some of the companies they monitor behaved the way they do in this respect, they'd be on some sort of Pages of Unhappiness. I'll be interested to see if this comment gets published or censored out of existence.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

You have to put your self in the shoes of a business that is in business to turn a profit of some sort. All businesses have different overhead which in turn decides what their bottom line would be on their services. I personally would not go with an unlicensed professional for this type of install. You are messing with gas, venting issues, electrical wiring{electric water heater} and updated code issues such as a drain pan and tempature and relief drain lines for heaters that currently do not have them. I do agree that there are some companies that are way out of line for their installs but most of these companies are the really big companies that have very high overheads  I would assume. Tank type water heaters have changed over the last several years and with these safety changes come bigger prices. The price of steel thanks to China is skyrocketing and tank type water heaters are made of steel. Most wholesale plumbing supply companies cannot match what the big box stores are selling at retail to consumers. I happen to think from research that heaters such as Rheem, Bradford White and AOSmith who have been in business forever make a better product than what you can buy in the big box outlets. You also have to take in consideration the location of the water heater that is being replaced. Is it in the house, basement, garage or attic. Most 40 and 50 gallon water heaters that are purchased in a plumbing wholesale store in Texas cost between 300-340 for a 6 year warranty heater with 6 year on parts and tank. Speaking of warranty. Most big box companies will take a least 24 hours to a week to get your warranty problem taken care of. Most reputable plumbing companies will give same day service if they installed the heater.

So lets break down a typical install at cost to a licensed plumber in Texas

Heater: $315, water shut off $6.50, water flex lines or unions to code $20, gas flex line and cut off to code $12, misc fittings $15, Total $368.50 Lets add a 35% profit which is some what low  for a business $129, Total 497.50

This doesnt  include permits, pan and drain or any venting issues. The vent must go from the heater to the outside of roof using double wall vent.

Cost of permit on average $60

Most plumbing companies allow for 3 hours of time for a water heater. This includes picking the new one up. Delivering out to house. Draining and removing old water heater. Hauling off old heater. Installing new heater up to code. Going down to city and pulling permit.

Average Labor charges for heater installs $400

That would make this install run without extras on any code issues $957.50

I just had a 50 gallon gas water heater installed in my house for $1200 but I needed a pan installed. I used a licensed plumber.

Todd said it best.

An itemized list / cost breakdown, more often than not is used against the contractor when it is shared with other builders who will then beat it.

Good contractors use good people, and good people cost more.  Just the cost of having the appropriate insurance / bond can be the difference between winning a job or losing it ot a 'lower bid'.

It is the rule of three; there is Good, Cheap and Fast.  You can have any two:  Good and Cheap, won't be Fast; Good and Fast, won't be Cheap;  Cheap and Fast, won't be Good!

When comparing bids, it isn't the cheapest or the 'nicest' person you should select.   You should understand why there is a large price difference (it shows there are gaps in your design program or what you have asked for specifically, which means there may be arguments later).  If most of the bids are in line, and one is way high or way low,  you want to know why before dismissing or selecting them.

A price-only decision almost always costs more in the long run.

Good luck!

Home Security System reviews in Helena

Our alarm hasn't worked since Feburary. The snow caused damage to a side door and it disarmed the entire system. Yesterday an
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
technician was scheduled to come out and they cancelled via voicemail on the day of the service. After taking the afternoon off from work - for the 5 hour window
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
provided - the tech left a message saying they wouldn't be out. When my husband tried to call back they put him on hold for an hour. I called today to cancel our
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
service. After confirming that I am the homeowner and our home password
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
refused to cancel our service. They said that my husband would have to call. After checking the date on the calendar to make sure I am still living in 2015 I informed the woman that my identity had already been confirmed and it is actually my American Express account which is billed. She told me that she understood how frustrating it is but that she is also a wife and she knows that sometimes it's the husband who has to be called.... We are asking
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
to stop billing us and for a refund from Feb through September billing.
*****FyI - for all of you looking for a home security system ** back when our system worked ** the one time our alarm did go off they called the police and never notified us. When I called
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
they said that it was not their policy to keep trying a homeowner until they get a response. They only leave a message on our home voice mail. That should be good in the event of a home invasion..

Great service, very professional, very prompt with great attention to detail. Protected our home with the utmost quality and service.

I cannot recommend a company that
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
and refuses to honor an obligation. I paid these guys roughly $5000 over the years, and the first time they need to come through for me- nothing. These guys are supposed to protect to protect you from thieves - not participate in the thievery

I researched a few security companies to see if anyone would be able to handle my family's unique circumstances. A
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
sales rep (who is no longer with the company) made some statements and promises that were not in line with what the company policies actually were. This created what could have been a really bad situation but I was able to deal with the situation amicably directly with
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
, the owner of the company. I doubt this could have been resolved with one of the large national companies in such a positive manner.
I will continue to recommend
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
to friends, family, and business associates without hesitation.

I have been using Vector for the past 10 years. Yesterday I changed to a new system. Vector's alarm system has significant flaws. When batteries go bad in the system, the monitoring system alerts you between 2-3AM. Every time. When alerted that the system had a low battery alert (which I asked them to ignore), Vector continued to call (at 3am), to inform me that there was an alert. Never during the day, or as soon as the system was turned on, ONLY in the middle of the night.
Customer Service takes 20+ minutes on hold, and service appointments take at least two weeks. I finally gave up on them due to the lack of customer service and their assumption that I'm a night owl. I installed a new system at considerable personal expense as I was not confident that Vector was competent enough to protect my home from anything other than low batteries.

Everything went great during the install and continues to perform great 3 years later. don't waste your money with any of the BIG alarm companies, call this locally owned company and get taken care of properly.

Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
7, I signed up for service with
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
due to a deal I found on Angie's list: "$199 for a
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
Ultimate Home Security Package and $100 Amazon Gift Card". The Amazon gift card was to be emailed to me after my thirty day trial period.
On August 7, I emailed
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
to inquire about the status of hte Amazon gift card and I received an email stating that I should expect it via email in "2-4 weeks" and to contact
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
if I hadn't received it by the end of August.
Today (Sept. 10), with still no Amazon voucher in my email, I contacted
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
and was told that it is up to Amazon to send me this voucher, and that they reportedly have been trying to contact Amazon about this.
Good thing first: The cust svc rep said he'd reimburse me for one month of service for all this trouble. (I have all the names of who I spoke to/emailed but I don't want to point fingers so I'm keeping that info out of this).
Bad: It appears that this supposed Amazon $100 gift card is false advertising to get us to sign up. I'm not destitute and in need of the giftcard but it is not ethical to advertise something that is not true.
Helena Home Security Companies Provider Name Locked
should not advertise something that they cannot guarantee. It makes me wonder if I can trust the security protection offered by
