" The owner Rich told me he would call back the next day to set up an appointment. After 3 days and no return call I called him back. He said he would call me back" and never did. I am an a customer service oriented profession and that is not an acceptable way to do business.

"This contractor had a lot of trouble figuring out how to install basic pre-made cabinets. The installed them 2 times before they were ok for the granite installer" to
the counter top. They did not remove the carpet from under the cabinets the first time and the canbnets pulled on the sheetrock when anyone even pushed down on the cabinet boxes so the granite would have pulled the cabintes out of the wall. It took them a long time to figure this out and get back from vacation to finally fix this and have the project move forward.

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

?
Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

I had experienced my worst night
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
with handyman matters they basically came to my house tried to remodel my kitchen and half laundry room and it turned out to be a whole lot of mess and more. I won a lawsuit and decided to move on and hire someone experienced and professional that actually knows what they are doing to fix up all of the mess handyman matters had created for us. So I called
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and bath from a referral.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
came and and boy I was glad I called him. very professional and honest. Not only he felt sorry for us and wanted to help us even though it wasn't much money for him but he was nice enough to take the job and make us happy. His crew always showed up on time prepared and they worked hard to try to keep the work area as clean as possible. Today they came for the last work and I'm very satisfied with my decision, so please people if you want a honest and best quality work do your homework and read reviews. I didn't do that with Handyman Matters but at the end I'm so happy I met
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and his crew because he fixed my kitchen and put a huge smile on my face.

Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was referred to us by a friend for a total home renovation project. Unfortunately, we didn’t research him because of the referral, but we have since found several online complaints (AZROC, Rippoff Report, and Better Business Bureau) in AZ and OH that are similar to our own.
We signed a contract on 10/18/2014 and in the beginning everything was going smoothly and we were happy with the progress for about 2-3 weeks. Then he started asking for more and more money up front "to keep the project moving" and by the time we became concerned with the lack of progress and quality of work, we were already ahead on payments. He had 80% of the money and had only completed about 50% of the work. The construction was scheduled to be finished by 12/07/2014, but the cabinet order was not expected to be delivered until 12/29.
As the General Contractor,
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was not concerned about workmanship. When we expressed concern about the quality of some of the work, he denied there was a problem and assured us it would look fine when it was all done. He does some
work himself instead of hiring professional subcontractors. He did not communicate well with his subcontractors and the schedule of work was illogical and
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
to rework and delays.
Poor Quality Work:
- Built a pony wall that visibly leans to one side - Other walls have cracked seams, uneven texture, uneven paint coverage
- Overspray (paint and texture) from poor masking on walls, trim, floors, inside light kits, and on electrical outlets and switches
- Ignored paint color/finish choices we provided and had to repaint some areas, ran out of paint, and never finished painting
- Installed a section of new hardwood flooring with misaligned boards and no moisture
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
under the wood
- Installed tile flooring that is not level, tiles are chipped,
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
pieces are missing (filled-in with thinset instead of tile), grout is a different color than requested, and grout lines are not straight
- Polished concrete shower surrounds - walls are not straight, 1st coat of concrete is heavily cracked
- Did not protect new bathtub - it was chipped and scratched after install
- Did not sufficiently cover existing wood flooring (left exposed for most of the project to be damaged by workers’ boots and covered with paint, mud, texture)
- Removed and damaged ceiling fans/lights in almost every room without direction to do so - they will all need to be replaced now
- General property damage and disregard: concrete spilled and cured on driveway/grass/gravel, missing large wall mirror, missing homeowner tools

continued to string us along, assuring us that things would be fixed and completed, but work stopped. He stopped coming to the job site, was slow to respond to emails and texts, and he pushed out the cabinet delivery date twice.
He continued to give us excuses (his son was sick multiple times, his truck broke down, etc.). He didn't provide a schedule or status update after many requests. We also began to suspect that he didn't use our cabinet deposit to
order the cabinets because of the delays, and he wouldn't send us proof of the cabinet order when we requested it.
We finally gave him a deadline (1/20/2015) to complete the work or provide us with a refund for incomplete work that we paid for. For weeks he continued to say that he would come over to the house in the next few days, or that he'd call, but he hasn’t returned to the job site and when we hear from him he puts us off another day or more. He sent his oldest son and a friend over to pick up two saws that they left behind. Subcontractors have come to our house looking for him because he has not paid them and doesn’t respond to messages. He left a large dumpster full of demo materials (from other project sites as well as
ours) in our driveway and when we called the disposal company 1/21/2015 the owner said that
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
’s credit card was declined and refused to pick up the dumpster unless we paid the bill. We are posting this review to help others
avoid experiencing the same disappointment and grief. We’ve also filed a formal complaint with AZROC due to the amount of money involved. Good luck and use licensed contractors who care about their reputations!

Mr.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
came in September to give me a quote and had samples for the vanity top and woodwork with him so I did not have go to othersupplier to fine what I wanted. He also sent an email for other materials for me to choose from. His son started the work the first of December and took down the half wall and removed the light, toilet and the flooring and walls that had gotten wet from the old toilet. He also removed the old vanity and the tile that was on the wall by it and by the mirror. I wanted to keep the mirror to be reused and he was able to do that. He then but up the drywall and made sure that you could not tell where the old wall and new wall were and put up the light and put in the vanity and replaced the old toilet. He

Last Fall we began updating a few rooms in our 27 year old home. In the bedrooms, wallpaper was stripped, and walls were textured & painted. One powder bathroom was completely gutted. A second bathroom required a change in all things except cabinetry. New flooring, lighting, sinks, toilets, faucets and hardware were installed. Extensive marble tile work was done around the tub/shower and on several countertops. Special beveled mirrors and a custom glass shower door were also installed. The end results were beautiful!
We were extremely satisfied with
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
! The owner,
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
Chapman, is a true professional. He is honest, very particular, and always aims to make the client pleased. He coordinates top-notch subs and is on the job to make sure all work is done perfectly. Every worker that came to the house was prompt, courteous, and left the site clean each day. Our entire project was completed very close to the estimated finish date. One unforeseen glitch and a couple changes made by us, broadened the scope of the job -which required a little extra time for completion. Again, we enjoyed working with
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
. They will be the company we call when we need any other remodel work done! We were thrilled with the results and we would wholeheartedly recommend them to everyone!

Mr.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was hired to do my bathroom and most of the windows in my home. The windows were completed with no problem until I had a problem locking one. To this day it still doesn't lock.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was hired to gut and replace everything in the main bathroom in my home. He arrived on the date we agreed on and the work started. Everthing was going well until the tile was installed. All of the tile was coming up the next day.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
stated to me he could do no more work for me as he would not make any money if he had to make the repair. He walked off the job and left me with an additional $1,500.00 worth of finish work. No running water in the tub. I had to have another company come out to remove all the tile. I had to repurchase the tile and have a professional install it.
In addition, when I called about the window I was ignored. I left 3 messages.

This was the BEST renovation and contractor experience I have had in 20 years of property ownership.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and his staff are the best of the best. I had rental apartment, a duplex in South Philly that needed considerable renovation and I had a tight budget. The apartment was originally the second floor of a house and still had the original bedroom footprint, one room was a living room, one the kitchen, one the bath and one the bedroom. I wanted to gut the space, use an open floor plan that would enlarge the bathroom, reduce the kitchen and enlarge the living area. I had architectural plans drafted with that vision. I contacted six Angie's List 'Service Star' rated contractors, 4 responded and
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was the only one that showed up with a measuring tape (telling). I knew
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was my contractor right away because he looked at the plans and began to try to figure out how to work around the unique oddities that are typical of older S. Philly homes. My budget was a stretch but he made it work. I was going to use IKEA for the kitchen but
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was able to get better custom cabinets with granite counter tops at just $600 more than the IKEA cabinets with laminate counter top was going to cost. And his solutions for the bathroom layout were even better than the original drafted plans. Things to know - he stays in constant contact with you and keeps you informed on construction progress/issues. He goes the extra extra mile! His staff are reliable, professional, super hard workers and cleaned up beautifully. Everyone that sees the finished apartment is amazed at how beautiful it has turned out and say - "It's so nice - are you going to live here?" I've gone through a few home improvement and renovation projects in the last 20 years, but hands down
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is the most honest, professional, considerate and responsible I have ever met. On a scale of 1 - 10, I would rate
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
a 20.
