"Response was initially fine. The gentleman had some speech/language challenges but I believed that he understood my requests after several conversations. However," the design came back quite different than what we had discussed. The measurements were inaccurate after the second draft even. He attempted to refer a friend who does custom cabinetry. His quote was provided over the phone and extremely high. The organizational skills of this contractor was very poor, his design lacked creativity and his communication challenges created significant interpretation challenges. I did empathize for him but did not use this company to finish the job. I wasted my money on this one. I did have to hire another contractor to draw up a new kitchen design. This contractor added quality suggestions to the design and was timely, very well priced.

-Steven H.

designed everything using a 3D design program that allowed us the see how the kitchen would look in advance. His creativity and tasteful" recommendations were keys to the success of the finished product. He listened to us all the way but was always prepared to guide us in areas we were unsure. Communication through group texts was a key to success.
established a schedule and was able to stick with. His courteous crew showed up when he said they would and cleaned up when finished. We are very pleased with the quality of the work performed.

Bathroom remodeling

Remodeling a home’s bathroom or bathrooms can give you a lot bang for your buck. And, according to real estate experts, you can recoup up to 80 percent of your costs when you sell your home.

Kitchen remodeling

Your kitchen is arguably the most important room in your home. It should be attractive, stylish, comfortable and functional. Remodeling a kitchen can dramatically enhance the appeal of your home to potential buyers.

Angie's Answers

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

. Is. Awesome!! That’s the only way I can describe our experience with his doing our kitchen remodel. We did 99% of the demolition on our own.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
came in, at 8:00 am on the promised day, and started working his magic. Less than 4 weeks later, we now have a gourmet kitchen that is stunning. He went to bat for us when we had a problem with the company doing the countertops (big mistake on my part to use that company). He made suggestions when he thought an idea of mine wouldn’t quite work out. Yet, if I had my heart set on something, he would gladly oblige. We ran into a few unforeseen problems, but

never got rattled and always found a reasonable solution.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is honest, hard-working, FAST, and thorough. He pays attention to every last little detail and makes absolutely sure the job is done correctly. He replies to emails almost immediately. If you call and get his voice mail, he returns the call usually within the hour. He even made friends with our younger cat who fell in love with

held our hands through the entire process ... consulting and educating us about the design, the many options, the different materials and was incredibly patient, answering all our questions clearly and honestly... in greater detail than the other cabinet pros we spoke with earlier.
His many recommendations were spot-on and budget-conscious - for example, the in's and out's of cabinet construction or the ideal cabinet sizes in relationship to our specific kitchen

even visited our house on a number of occasions to double-check measurements and make sure everything was in good order.

's labor rates are low.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was always on time.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
's crew left the work area clean as a whistle each night.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
works on only 1 kitchen at a time, so he's dedicated to you.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is straight up honest. He bought materials and then showed me every receipt for the materials that I needed to reimburse him for. Didn't charge me a dime more than he quoted me.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
offered to pick up the tile I had ordered from a store in north Philadelphia and haul it to Delaware for free. That was amazing of him.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
can be difficult to confront. On one hand, he'd say to me "so long as you are happy", but each time I'd bring something to his attention that I wanted resolved, he'd get a little disgruntled and pissy. That'd be fine if I didn't have a damned good idea of the things he was doing incorrectly.
Each day in the construction, I caught something wrong. And it was dumb stuff that a contractor of his experience should have been able to figure out on his own and not have me worried.
1. Recessed light installed in a place where a recessed light couldn't exist due to the floor plan (which he had in his sight every day of construction, taped to the window).
2. Sink faucet was installed without plumber's dope around the base. So any water that lands next to the base (you know, from your wet hand turning the faucet off) will drip into the cabinet beneath.
3. Sink faucet was installed with the handle facing us, instead of like the picture on the freaking box, turned to the side.
4. Placement of the pendant lights weren't such that the two pendants were evenly spaced across the window they hung in front of.
5. Two of the cabinet faces on the drawers came from the factory installed at the wrong height, so the drawers wouldn't close. We had to figure out what was going on and then tell
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
which cabinet face to move and by how much and in which direction.
6. The microwave oven vent comes from the factory so it can vent to the outside. We provided the manual from the manufacturer to
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, on how to convert it to a re-circulating vent (so the air blows into the room, instead of into the cabinet).
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is not one for reading instructions (again, it goes back to his pride...."I been doing this long enough, I know what I'm doing". We had to call him back to take the microwave down off the wall and follow the instructions.
7. It wasn't an issue, but it could have been. The light switch above the sink is JUST BARELY (like .5 a millimeter) above the backsplash. Since he didn't really plan it out/draw it out, this could have been an issue since no light switch plate would have covered the opening.
8. The one floor joist that I told him needs support (because a structural engineer had come in and pointed out that it needs support) he did not support. He just tiled over it. So now I have hairline cracks forming in the wall resting on that joist due to the joists's movement.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
wasn't big on planning. He's more of a "by the seat of his pants" contractor. I'm more of a plan it out, do it right the first time though. So I caught basic issues in things like, placement of the recessed lights. He had put one where a cabinet wall was going to be at, despite having a floor plan for the kitchen. He also didn't check in before the original start date. Glad I had called. He didn't let us know about the things he planned on doing the next day and therefore, the decisions we should be thinking about now so that he could go and get the right materials.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
isn't a designer. He's a "do what I'm told and what I've been doing for years" kind of contractor. This was a kitchen remodel and so, we wanted to use design aspects of a modern day kitchen. Example: we wanted the outlets
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
up underneath the cabinets so that that backsplash was uninterrupted. This was a new design concept to
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and he didn't know what it meant in terms of what he needed to do, nor how to communicate that to the electrician. The electrician took the cheap way out and put outlets in my cabinets (sigh) instead of putting in a GFCI circuit breaker and the junction boxes in the open basement. Grrr.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
had sub'd out the electrical work to his electrician friend. I was disappointed in the electrician friend overall.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
could have done the work (and in fact, due to the complaining the electrician gave
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
ate a lot of the cost the electrician was going to charge me by doing the work himself. He left the tie ins to the service panel up to the electrician, which is what I wanted the electrician for anyway. What's more though, is I had to call the electrician back because the one thing I wanted him to do, he didn't! This reflects poorly on
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
because he's been around enough...he should have more than one electrician he can trust and one that doesn't beat
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
down on prices.
Overall though,
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
's work is good for the price. Less concerned homeowners and all our visitors love his work. They don't notice anything wrong. We do because we expect perfection I guess. A great example: the tile floor isn't level. We used those 10x20" rectangular tiles. When we did the tiling ourselves in the bathroom, we checked every tile for levelness in all directions before laying the next and then checked across them. It's clear
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
did not do this and did not prepare the floor to ensure it was level before laying tile. So when barefoot, you can feel the slight ups and down from tile to tile because the joints aren't always level. You can't see it due to the pattern and tile we picked out, but you can feel it when pointed out.
Just be ready to check, double check, and triple check everything he does and if he recommends
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
as his electrician, tell him no thanks and get your own electrician.
- Dave P.

Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and his crew did a great job. Excellent quality and punctuality. They did take good care as to not cause damage to the surroundings. He understood for the most part of what I wanted and worked hard to achieve that. Though there were a few misunderstandings. All in all great job and I will have him back for an estimate on the Kitchen remodel.
I would suggest to make sure you do your homework before any work is done. He expects you to know what you want. My other suggestion is to make sure everything you want or talked about is on the estimate.
- Robert K.

and his crew demolition the porch and other structures (pillars and facing ). It took about 2 days to complete this process. They then began work on the foundation to the porch. Once the foundation work was complete he had it inspected by a structural engineer.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
provided me with a copy of this report. Once that was approved
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and his crew began to rebuild the porch and columns. They kept some of the old columns and stands to use as models ensuring the measurements were correct. When rebuilding the front steps he evened out the steps so that they would be uniform. He also placed lattice work on both sides of the steps to prevent animals from going under the front porch. I really appreciated this. All debris was hauled away after the work was completed. Once the work was completed my niece and I reviewed the work to make sure we were satisfied. There was only one very minor issue which was related to painted.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
corrected it on the spot.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and his crew were extremely professional. They were always on time for work. They never left early. There were a couple occasions in which they worked past their usual hours. There were a number of times in which they worked when it was raining. Once morning it had been storming (raining heavily and thunder) since around 3:00am. It was still raining around 9:00am. I just knew they would not be able to work that day and did not expect them to come out given the weather conditions. However, couple of hours after the rain stopped I heard them outside working. Talk about dedication.
Also during the time the porch was being reconstructed a city inspector came buy and wanted
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
to add changes to the design. He was very frustrated as was I since this is an historical district and changes cannot be made without consent of the historical agency. Even when
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
tried to explain this was an historical district he would not listed. The concern was if changes were made without prior approval I could be fined. Also this was going to require more time and money. When
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
's wife went to the historical for approval of paint color she explained this situation to them. She gave them the name and phone number of the inspector. People at the historical agency cleared up the matter and changes were not needed. I appreciated
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and his wife for handling this problem.

I learned about
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
through Angie's List so thought it was fitting to leave a review. I thought the reviews i read initially were too good to be true but my experience with them was really great. Our project was a full kitchen renovation of a fairly large kitchen. We had several kitchen designs done and estimates of the cost of the cabinetry. We had design and estimates done with
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
Lumber, Home Depot, Lowes, and a few others.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was the best by far in terms of professionalism, cost and quality of the design.
Our kitchen designer-
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
Reichenthal was absolutely fantastic. After our initial unscheduled meeting (we were just walking around the showroom when we met him) he spent significant time getting to know us. He understood our vision quickly and was able to really help us design a kitchen that would meet our needs. We did not get this same sense of confidence in any of the other designers and companies we met with. We ended up meeting with
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
about three times to finalize our kitchen design.
We compared the cost of cabinets that we believed were comparable (if you're shopping for cabinets you'll realize very quickly that there are more companies than you can imagine and you're really not sure about the quality of what's being sold). The cost came in between $3,000- $5,000 less than other estimates even from Home Depot and Lowes.
Once we decided on
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, we worked with
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
to finalize the kitchen design and he was great in terms of not overselling unnecessary features. He also offered us advice on color selection of the tiles and granite even though we weren't necessarily purchasing these things through
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
. We ended up using their granite supply company (BCG granite who did an excellent job), but did not use their kitchen cabinet installers.
We met their contractors who seemed great and knowledgeable but we did not live in NJ, so there would have been some licensing concerns with some of the contractors.
We were told the cabinets would take up to 8 weeks for delivery, but they were ready much earlier (4-6 weeks). We had no problems with the delivery process. Our contractor inspected them at the time of delivery and was impressed with the quality of the cabinets. The cabinets are from Starmark and are really of high quality. Our contractor called
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
several times during the installation process to clarify aspects of the design and
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was very responsive each time. We had a small issue with two cabinet doors (out of the 32 cabinet doors purchased). We called
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and had replacement doors within 2 weeks.
We are extremely happy with our renovated kitchen, the cabinets are great. Now having lived in our new kitchen for a few weeks, we are increasingly happy with the smart design. I would absolutely recommend their services.
- Nichola W.

Every step of the process was great. They were wonderful with their communication and frequent check ins. The work they did was substantial and they did it efficiently. Very pleased and will be using them in the future.
- Lindsey M.

He saved is $1,500 by resurfacing the bottom of our cracked & chipped fireclay sink. A very nice job.
Harvest Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
has done 3 or 4 bathtubs in a apartment building for me. Great work, Some are over 4 years old and still look good.
