"It was informative and very thorough. Recommendations were made, but we did not feel pressured to buy anything beyond the service we purchased through Angie's" List. We will follow up with the recommendations and we would definitely use this service gain.

"TERRIBLE!!!! We had Will from aquaquard come out for an assessment of our foundation. We were going to do a total remodel of our home. We had some major settling" issues and knew we could not invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in the work without first addressing the foundation. Will appeared to be extremely knowledgeable and experienced. He told us what we needed to make our foundation structurally sound before beginning renovations. After the crew dug the footings my husband went under our house to see what they had done. It was noted at that point there were not enough footings to support the house. We called Will from aquaquard who came back out to reevaluate the situation. It was then the situation began to deteriorate. More footings needed to be installed but would cost thousands of dollars more!!! I had serious concerns that this was a bait and switch scenerio. We were assured that was not the case and given a 10% discount. Folks, at this point we were into this about 20,000 dollars. Aquardguad returned with their cement truck to pour the footings. They did not finish until 11:00 pm. One of the workers asked if they could wash out their cement truck . I agreed as long as they dumped the debris in the woods away from the driveway.Well the next day we went outside and our asphalt driveway had concert dumped all the way down it. Our driveway is long. It was a mess!!! In addition, they had dumped large piles of concrete beside the driveway in three different areas. Once again we called Will with aquaquard . We took pictures and sent those to him. He said someone would be out to clean up the mess. Two weeks later a worker showed up with a pressure washer and tried to remove concrete that had been sitting on the driveway for two weeks. We withheld $2,000 of our final payment. I wished it would have been more. We have to pay to reseal the driveway. It gets worse. When construction on our home began a structural engineer came out per the contractors request and said the foundation still needed more supports another $15-$20 thousand dollars of foundation work from the contractor!! We never heard another word from aquaquard about our driveway or the money we withheld. Writing about our experience brings back painful memories. I wonder if I can
aquaquard for PTSD? In retrospect we would have been better off letting the contractor do the work. He utilized a structural engineer and fixed the foundation.

Angie's Answers

Mold in a basement is a common problem. My company helps people with this every day. Some of the answers you received were helpful but not all the information is correct. First, you need to eliminate the two main ingrediants that mold needs to survive. The first one is water intrusion. This is a must. I am assuming you have no water intrusion as you make no mention. The second componant that needs to be eliminated is moisture. Moisture is also humidity. Basements need to be kept airtight in the summer months. Some folks have posted that you need air flow in your basement. Nothing could be furthur from the truth. When you open any windows for example, not one micron of air goes out of the basement, Warm humid air is sucked into the basement. Houses suck air into the basement and it meets the cool surfaces and skyrockets humidity. The windows must be kept closed and a dehumidification device installed to ensure humidity stays below 60% humidity. The dehumidifier should be energy star rated and purchasing a seperate humidity guage is a must to monitor the unit's progress. We like to keep our customer's basements at 50% humidity. This eliminates the smell that is active mold spore growth. Once the water and humidity is brought under control. Remove the organic materials that have mold on them. Walls, sheetrock and studs that have been affected. Follow the advice of previous posts as you must ensure that you do not affect the rest of the home. Once removed, install new walls using as much inorganic material as possible. We also install vapor barrier over the walls and seal the floors to stopwater vapor transmission into the basement. Poly plastic is not a acceptable vapor barrier. It is not "zero-perm" and will still allow moisture transmission. It will also crack and break into pieces over the years. A PVC liner rated "zero-perm" is the correct product in this application. Depending how large the basement is and if it is sectioned off will determine the dehumidifier strength. We use the Santa Fe line of dehidifiers as they are super energy efficiant and work like a dehumidifier on steriods. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in Basement Health!

Where is the home located, what is the exterior wall construction and type, how is the space heated?

It could be a whole host of different scenarios that would generate that result.  It is nearly impossible to tell but I would say that most basement moisture problems are a result of bulk moisture intrusion or condensation issues.

Given the deep and hard winter this year, it could be a condensation issue that hadn't previously been shown.

Basement Waterproofing reviews in Fairfield

Mr. Arcari was very patient and professional as he explained the process in a way that I could clearly understand. I am very happy that the services provided were offered by Angie's List and I would not hesitate to refer the services of

came on 2 different occasions to offer some suggestions for my basement sump. He was very professional & helpful. He gave me a quote for expanding the area of my existing sump pump & adding a floor drain which would be piped to the sump. The 3 men came the morning they said they would. The first to arrive was

(foreman/supervisor) who also was very nice & professional. A little later the 2 workers showed up who

hammered the concrete around my existing sump & installed a super sump pump kit. Also, they installed a 9" x 9" box floor drain in the concrete which was piped to the sump. Afterwards they back filled around the sump & over the pipe with gravel then put down a plastic vapor

, & then some new concrete to finish it off. It looks very good & I am very happy with the work.

The salesman was friendly and thorough in explaining the company's products, and the serviceman came out when scheduled and performed the work quickly. He also replaced rotted window frames at no extra charge. The windows look great, and we have no complaints. We need more windows replaced, and depending on how our new windows do during the winter, we'd be happy to use them again.

I originally had this job quoted in the summer of 2014 by ARW and two additional companies. ARW was the middle of the pack as far as price but their encapsulation seemed more complete and of higher quality. One year later, we were finally ready financially to have the work performed.
Fairfield Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very kind and matched the prices offered in 2014 even though they typically only offer their quote for 60 days (I think). I was originally told the work would be performed around the third week of September which was a bit disappointing as it was holding up additional work we had scheduled. I was pleasantly surprised when I was called a month early and told they would be arriving that night to drop off materials for the next day.

(the owner) arrived with the foreman for the job and personally introduced him. The foreman arrived the next day with one additional worker. As he began the job, he noted that I had mold in the crawl and asked why I wasn't having it remediated. This raised questions because I thought it was scheduled to be done. The diligence of the foreman,
Fairfield Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, saved us from having ARW out again in the future and paying twice for work I thought I had already scheduled. After some research, we realized the error was caused because the company had switched from handwritten forms (2014) to computer based forms (2015) and all the information from the handwritten form was not recorded on the new form. I had not caught the difference when given the new paperwork. The change was a major one--it took us from having drain tiles, a sump, and a vapor

to a full encapsulation and guaranteed dry crawl space. In a flash,

had the new materials set to be delivered and he changed his plan of attack for the crawl. The remainder of the project went largely as planned.

had his new employee leave the company and was left high and dry to finish the work. He never once complained, but attacked the project with renewed

The crawl space looks fantastic and it is so clean, I was able to crawl down there in a white sweater and come out without a smudge of dirt!

The guy came and I wanted him to look at the basement. I felt pressured by making the decision at that time and he didn't looked into details what I want him to look at.

provider came out and gave a decent competitive quote. on time and professional. explained and answered any questions. providers evaluation matched to competitors and didnt try to upsell or rip off.

So, first off, i really liked how the appointment was set up. The company called a few days before to let us know that ththey were sending a man named
Fairfield Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, and he would call first to let us know he was on his way.
Fairfield Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
arrived exactly on time and i took him down to see the mold. He explained a bit about our basement's construction and then ran some water from the spigot outside near where we saw the mold, to see if any water showed inside the basement. He explained that when there's water damage, you usually see the damage at the lowest point the water is reaching, so based on where we were seeing the mold, it looked like it was actually a foundation or wall problem. He asked if we wanted him to cut into the drywall to see more and we agreed because we really don't know much about basements or foundations and he was explaining everything so well. He cut out a small chunk of drywall for us. We went back outside and he ran some water on the porch light, which hadn't been caulked properly, and then headed back to the basement to see if he could feel any moisture inside the wall. Still nothing. He said that his guess was that prolonged driving rain was seeping in around the porch light fitting and we could stop that by caulking around the fitting. Then he pulled some of the insulation out to see how badly the mold had spread and it was black (very moldy). He suggested that a good handyman would be able to help us clean that up and recommended a man his other customers here had liked.
Fairfield Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very knowledgeable and professional, and he spent nearly an hour teaching us and helping to figure out what was wrong, and then we found out that this was all pay of the free estimate! Holy cow! If anything ever does happen to our basement in the future, I'm calling
Fairfield Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
. Honest, helpful, and professional.

is very good at what they do. They are professional, prompt and responsive. It's probably best to call them if you have an unfinished basement or before you do a

. We had a finished basement and they had to remove drywall to get to the cement block wall, and they do not replace/repair the sheetrock. We had to have the sheetrock replaced which was an added cost, but liked the fact that this company specializes in basement waterproofing and guarantee their work. I would use them again.
