" is the owner of Southwest A/C. He did an extensive inspection inside the attic for insufficient insulation and leaks, readings on power draw." I had been dealing with a high electricity bill, and he diagnosed it right away. Unfortunately my warranty company was hard to deal with and wanted to have one of their maintainers to check it out. (See my review on 's A/C) Because of 's uneducated and outright unprofessional diagnosis, it took another 6 month to convince my warranty company to come back out and let do the service and replace what was bad. Had it not been for , the other company would have charged only $818, but they would have stuck in used parts and I'd still be stuck with a high electricity bill. ($450 compared to what is now $110). is super reasonable and runs a very honest business. I cannot recommend him enough.

"The service went great. came out for the service and completed it in about 3 hours. He was able to repair refrigerator but the microwave" was not repairable. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was persistent in figuring out the issue even though it was not easy. He did a great job and I had no problem scheduling the service.

Small Appliances and Kitchen Gadgets

Small appliances play a big role in our daily lives. When shopping for microwave ovens, vacuums, toasters, mixers and more, choose appliances that fit your need and budget. When it comes to repairs, compare the cost of fixing to the cost of replacing the item.

Few kitchen appliances get as much use as the garbage disposal. And over the years, common issues such as jamming and leaking can occur. However, a disposal not operating properly or maintained can break down and cause plumbing issues - leading to costly repairs.

Electrical kitchen appliances aren't always easy to repair (or replace) and the work can be costly.

If your disposal is about 5 to 10 years old and troubled, it may make more sense to replace and not repair it.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

Since you asked this question over a year ago, I'm pretty sure you've already made your decision but I'd like to offer you some advice.  You mentioned your husband vacuumed the coils and it worked for a couple more weeks.  Chances are the condenser coils were very dirty when he did this.  When refrigerator condenser coils are dirty, the compressor overheats and heat will cause a compressor to fail prematurely.  You should vacuum or blow out your condenser coils regularly.  Today's refrigerator compressors are not made to last like they were in the past.  I remember when it wasn't unusual for a compressor to last 30 years.  You won't see that happen with the way refrigerator compressors are made today.  Regular cleaning of your condenser coils is crucial in preventing premature failure of your compressor.  For more tips, check out my article here on Angie's list titled "How To Avoid Appliance Repairs"

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

It's worth having a qualified appliance tech take a look to find out the cost to repair it. Since the refrigerator side works, it's not likely the compressor or the coil. Could just be the fan switch on the door.

The 1st call in Feb. took 3 visits and over a 10 days and they did not repair it. This was during our coldest days. We called and told the company that it still wasn't repaired and they never returned the call. Had to call another firm and it took him about 5 minutes.
2nd call was a dishwasher and that took 2 calls and all it needed was ...More to be unplugged and restarted as it was a computer problem.
The 3rd call was our 2 year old air conditioning unit. When we ask the home warranty people NOT to send out they did anyway. Many calls and visits including one with the main tech it still would not cool. When my husband called the company they hung up on him. Another company came out and repaired a valve and it has been fine.
We are not happy with Choice Home Warranty and certainly not with .

I called to set up an appointment to install a new garbage disposal. He happened to be close by and just finishing up another job so he was at our house 45 minutes later. He was friendly, fast and efficent. He even disposed of our old unit and fixed the sprayer on the sink. We plan to call for any future ...More plumbing needs.

I contacted by e-mail after buying Angie's List Deal. I had a response within the hour, and they were able to schedule an appointment for me the next day. I was told to expect the repairman between 8 and 11 am. The repairman called me around 11 to say that he would be late. He arrived before 12. He was very friendly and ...More professional. He fixed the problem with my garbage disposal in 2 minutes. I had paid for 2 hours of labor so it didn't turn out to be a great deal, but the problem was fixed! My overall feeling about the transaction is very good.

I called the Tucson office and told I'd like my garbage disposer and bathroom sink replaced next week. He asked which day specifically and afternoon or morning. I said Tuesday or Wednesday next week would be fine and he took down my address and said someone would call be Tuesday to specify the hour. At the conclusion ...More of the call I told him I was using an Angie's List deal. I was then placed on hold, then promptly told all plumbers were in on a big job and he won't have anyone for AT LEAST another month. He apologized and said I should call back in six weeks, there was nothing more he could do... One minute ago he was nailing down the exact time, took down my address and phone, asked questions about the disposer being replaced, and now they had no serviceman available for 6 weeks after learning I was using a prepaid Angie's deal?
Wow, that deserves an F. Contact me , I'd like you to right this wrong. Bad practices like this is why Angie's List exists.

Update: did come after this posting and installed a garbage disposer and bath faucet in three hours. I felt they could have done it a bit faster, or given me additional credit for the above trouble, but they billed me for all of their time at full cost above the Angies deal. Not appreciated, but both installs were done well.
- Nathan W.

When my disposer broke I called after selecting him from Angie's list, as it appeared that he was an individual and not a large company. I had purchased a new disposer and needed to have it installed as soon as possible. I was struck by the fact that asked me when it would be convenient for me, ...More instead of telling me when he could do the job. He arrived at the agreed upon time, went to work, finished the job promptly, and cleaned up. He also offered to haul away the old unit, which saved me a trip to the dump. If only all other service providers were as pleasant, courteous, prompt, and fairly priced!

In the midst of my family Christmas baking my 7 year old KitchenAid Pro mixer started to make a grinding sound and I picked up the smell of a hot motor. The closest factory authorized repair service is in and the other option was to ship the mixer to the factory. We called a number of small appliance repair services listed ...More in the Yellow Pages but none service mixers. Went to Angie and found this listing. Mr was at my door within an hour and took the mixer to his shop. He determined that the motor is going, contacted KitchenAid and arranged for a warranty replacement mixer. It is anticipated that it will be a few more weeks before the replacement will arrive so Mr serviced the motor so that I could continue baking for the holiday. The mixer was back in my kitchen first thing the next morning. Mr is very professional and a pleasure to work with. I put his contact information in my address book and will call him with any future small appliance problems as well as a need for other services his company provides. I highly recommend this business.

Everything about our service call was excellent. , who answers the phone and schedules calls, is always friendly and very helpful. Our service technician, , was awesome. He was punctual, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He took extra time to explain everything to us and to provide us with better ...More explanations for running our dishwasher in order to avoid future problems. Our dishwasher, which was barely out of warranty, had quit working. explained that it is imperative we use the Finish tabs, rather than Cascade, because the excess detergent had caused the problem. needs only a tiny amount of detergent and absolutely not more, which is not explained in their manual or website.
After he left, I noticed a small amount of water leaking under the dishwasher. came right back out and replaced a gasket (or something) and included it in the original service. It was probably related to what he was doing the first time, but regardless, there was no hassle or argument about additional costs that I've gotten from other service companies.
also helped us solve an easy problem with our fridge filter as we chatted, and he even gave me tips on buying our new appliances. He worked carefully and didn't rush--takes pride in his work. He is full of information and happy to share!
This is a locally-owned family business, and I am happy to recommend their work to anyone needing appliance repairs.
