D
"I purchased brand new appliances, the latest models from Kitchen Aid. Purchase included range, hood and refrigerator. Since the model was so new, some items were" not in stock. I did not have the opportunity to actually see the refrigerator in person, and spoke with the sales rep at length about my kitchen remodel and my goals. I wanted all stainless, and bigger and better than my current setup. I am also getting new cabinets so I am flexible about sizes, etc. I was torn between the counter depth and regular size refrigerator, and wound up ordering the counter depth. When the appliances arrived several weeks later, the refrigerator was not only ridiculously small (I should have been prepared better for this), it has smudges in the stainless that will not come out. I requested to exchange the appliance and was told that I would incur a restocking fee of over $600!!! I was not made aware of this in advance, otherwise I would NOT have placed the order as I did. I felt pressured into making a decision, was told more than once that the supplier was getting irritated I was taking so long while researching my best options. I would like to exchange the refrigerator, but I do not feel that I should be penalized with this exorbitant fee. is taking the position that they won't exchange due to the size, and are completely ignoring the fact that the finish is damaged. And by the way, I had a dinner party last weekend for 5 people, 2 people were having drinks with ice. We ran out of ice within an hour. Another defect in the refrigerator? Secondly, from a service perspective, I replaced a counter top with a slide in range. This means I cut through my countertop and removed the cabinet below to make space for the new range. My new range has an option to attach trim pieces to hide the cutout in the countertop, which I told the sales rep I would probably purchase. However, once the range was delivered, I found paperwork IN THE TRASH from the installers that indicated if I needed to make a modification, Kitchen Aid would supply those pieces for me! Why, again from a service standpoint, would not share that with me? They clearly don't care about the client. This is a relatively small item compared to the total purchase, but making the offer to me would have been appreciated. The "FIT" guarantee. I WOULD NOT recommend this retailer and am very, very unhappy. I can't get over the fact that I made such a large purchase with them, and plan to purchase more pieces, and they seem to care not one bit. I have been told for weeks that someone will contact me, but am still waiting. I was very excited about my new kitchen, as I'm sure anyone can understand, instead I am frustrated and very disappointed.

"That was about it. I do not recommend going to Famous on for ANY appliance purchase, unless it is for a high end," or built in item, and even then I wouldn't recommend it, since I don't have experience with that, but basically they told me that is really what they do. The Salesman had basic knowledge about the two sizes of regular refrigerator, 33 inches and 35 inches wide, and why the smaller ones tend to be more expensive, but his value ends there. He showed them to me, and helped me measure them, but he has no information on any features of the items, to show me, or any advice to give me about what made one refrigerator different from another. Such as -- for the price, which one would be more quiet, or is a better quality, etc, more storage, for the money. No pros and cons whatsoever. Like -- this one has adjustable shelves, this one doesn't; lighting features, etc. How they perform. He said this -- if I wanted to know anything about these refrigerators, I could GOOGLE it. ??? I know that. Told me they do mainly high end built ins and don't have too many of the others. He only gave me specification sheets WHEN ASKED. They did not even have any basic square cubic feet posted on the refrigerators for easy viewing. Just price and model #. So if I am supposed to google it, why is he there? My repair person suggested . When I asked if they had more inventory at the Waters store, the salesman said no, that is mainly a warehouse, with scratch and dents, but I was welcome to go look. They do have good prices, but based on prior experience, I am afraid to buy from them. The salesman was condescending and unhelpful. I have no idea why my repair person would tell me to go there. I bought a dishwasher from them previously. It was a total lemon, and they were no help at all. In fact, they REFUSED to give me a number to contact the company, even. Am not stopping by here again. I didn't feel welcome, helped, or wanted as a customer.

Personal opinion but I will not buy another front load washing machine again.  They simply do not clean clothes as well as the old agitator style washers do.  In the summer when I am hot and sweaty I have to wash shirts at least twice, sometimes up to four times to get the stink out.  Also, while they may save water per load washed, they run a lot longer.  My old washing machine took about 20 minutes to wash a load of clothes.  The front loader takes about an hour.  What it saves on water it more than makes up for in electricity I'm sure running three times as long.  Our front loader has not leaked but it doesn't do the job for my clothes.  Maybe someone sitting in an office all day has fewer problems having to rewash clothes.

As for appliance brand recommendations I have no particular favorites.  They all seem to be disposable these days, often costing as much to repair as to replace.  Samsung has made some good appliances as of late I've heard a lot of good reviews about from customers.  I've got a customer who bought a Kenmore refrigerator when they built the house.  The ice maker has gone out and the replacement part isn't any better since it's a known defect according to the appliance repairman they had look at it.  It was just past the warranty so they didn't pay for another part to be installed that was going to fail again.  Since Kenmore is made by other companies I'm sure they aren't the only one with this problem.  We live in a disposable society.  I look at how well it works, the warranty and cost and weigh the last two of those after kicking out the ones with bad reviews on that model.

Depends a lot on your current configuration. Rough numbers, $4-7,000 for the generator including autostart and automatic load transfer circuit box and master breakers (usually all come on the generator).

Installation (with pad already inplace and gas hookup - about $500-1000.

Electrical about $800 minimum, to maybe $2500. The $800 will get you a simple transfer switch installation but if you want some household circuits to run on the generator but others not, depending on how your current wiring is run, can run to $2000 to pull existing circuits to a new panel.

The problem is that all circuits that are going to be on the generator, unless you are planning to carry the entire household load, have to go to a separate circuit breaker panel which is fed off the automatic transfer switch, so they get power from either the power company or the generator, depending on which is providing power at the moment. That means the circuits running off either source have to be disconnected from your current breaker box, extended (commonly) over to the new box, and hooked up. All other circuits stay on your current breaker box, to run only off the public power when it is on. If the generator is large enough capactiy for your entire house load of course it costs more, but this circuit termination point moving is not needed, so electrical work drops way off to basically a connection box with the transfer switch.

A couple of words of advice - pay attention to weather protection, fire barrier between the unit and the house (including issues of overhead decks that can catch fire), automatic fire shutoff/suppression, and trickle charging from house power to generator battery. Also read CAREFULLY your power comopany rules on generator installation (commonly requires their signoff), any code restrictions on generators and noise in your area, and if your insurance rate will go up. (It definitely does if you have a fuel tank, I don't know if it does with natural gas-fired generators.)

Welcome to the world of Google ! Google this search phrase - dual fuel downdraft convection oven range

You will find a number of brands that make dual-fuel ranges with convection oven - Jenn-air of course, and GE, Bosch, Kitchenaid, Maytag, LG, Samsung, Wolf, Frigidaire, Thermador, Viking all sellin the US. Almost all major brands make this a dual-fuel convection oven range - find model(s) you like, then start checking with local vendors to see who sells them locally - the big home improvement box stores and Sears, Best Buy for starts.

However, the bad news - according to an article I found, only Jenn-Air still makes downdraft stovetops, although I did find one blog notation about a person buying a European Viking with downdraft. Basically the fan capability in downdraft ranges is just not enough to capture the odors and grease and steam coming off a cooktop, so the other brands all dripped it and recommend an over-stove powered vent hood. Most downdraft units had about a 1/10HP fan that pulled about 300 cfm - the same as a modern bathroom fan,, when to actually cause a reverse (downward) airflow over a range requires more like 1000 cfm or more causing a downward airflow of about 10-20 mph - which would make for a little private windstorm around your stove. People also found they did not like the reduced oven size to accomodate the fan unit.

Thermador and Dacor and probably others make behind the range vent units that stick up a foot or two and pull some of the fumes from the rangetop, though reviews say their performance is iffy and basically only affects the rear burners.

My recommendation - go with an overhead vent hood and eliminate the greasy buildup and high humidity in the kitchen that go with downdraft ranges - you will also pay about half a much as for a Jenn-Air downdraft unit.

Good prices but the push particular brands. You need to do your own research on what to kind to buy. For example, they were pushing GE refrigerators which are known to be very noisy. Amazon reviews are a good place to look.
There service contracts are inferior and more expensive. We bought our refrigerator from Lowes when ...More would not match the price. The rest of the kitchen we bought from them.

We needed a new washer and dryer but had dimension issues from the start. The dryer needed to stack on top of the washer but not be too tall for me to reach the dryer controls. They also needed to be narrow enough to fit through the laundry room door and not too deep or they would block part of a window . I was also looking for the largest capacity ...More possible so I wouldn't be doing laundry constantly. I also wanted machines with a good reputation for reliability. After a great deal of research on-line and with , I thought we would have to settle for a washer/dryer with a very small capacity. However, managed to find us a matching set that perfectly fit all our needs! Right size, respected brand, good-size capacity. He never gave up looking for us. To top it off both pieces were "scratch and " so it was nearly half-price!! I always check "scratch and " but I've never, ever found anything. When told us he had this washer & dryer he wanted us to see I tried not to get my hopes up. I expected it to look like it fell off the back of a truck but when we saw it in the showroom there was only one tiny, superficial scratch! Plus we still received the full warranty. Needless to say, we are delighted with the whole purchase.

I was referred to by Mr. Appliances. Apparently they are sister companies. has a clean showroom. They had a fridge of the right dimensions. It was clean and it worked. Delivery was casually scheduled. I could not get a confirmed time, just a day. Calling their office yielded ...More a secretary or relative who spoke broken English; communication suffered. But the fridge was eventually delivered on the designated day. My dead fridge was removed, the new one installed. A basic level of service.

salesmen far exceeded the big box stores personnel regarding their expertise of appliances they were selling and were not high pressure which validated my decision to purchase my dishwasher from them. Salesmen at both locations, fair price, prompt delivery and installation confirmed I will continue to shop at ...More . Customer service is the key and meets that criteria as well as fair pricing and large inventory.

Horrible. Contract signed in . Contractor had us sign duplicate contract in September and still, despite our weekly calls to prompt installation the well wasn't installed until the first week of December. The electric wasn't connected and well was not fully functioning until mid-February. The owners were pushy about ...More final payment before the entire project was complete, acted snubbed when collateral services were declined, and failed to respond to questions and equipment problems immediately after full payment was received.
