Woodworking reviews in Saint Paul

Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
was very professional and handled all the small change requests that needed to be made throughout the project. They informed us of the costs of the changes as the project went along. They were easy to work with, very reasonable, patient and flexible with unexpected delays and with requests for additional work to be performed. We plan to use them again.

I can't say enough good things about these guys. we've had them out for 2 jobs- the first was a fairly
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
repair of a water-damaged threshold -- I asked several contractors come look at it and they all proposed to replace my custom triple french doors with a sliding door. I can only assume that seemed to them to be the most failsafe approach but that's not what I wanted-- the other contractors really tried to steer me toward a new installation and away from repairing the existing door. I went with
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
because they said they would repair what I already have, and they did! It cost far less than a new installation and keeps the style I prefer.
The second job was to rip out carpeted stairs and install new railings/balusters in a completely different style. The final product looks amazing- we get lots of compliments on the gorgeous stairs and craftsman-style spindles and railings. This was no "kit" project that simply involved picking up factory pieces from a big box store and putting them together. Rather it was a custom design and beautifully executed. The design inspiration was our

'prairie' bed which has great lines, proportions, etc--
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
was able to successfully replicate the design elements and translate them appropriately (scalewise) into stair railings and balusters. He milled the wood and I was grateful that they paid close attention to the grain of the wood pieces, because I had requested that the risers, spindles, and skirtboard (?) be quartersawn oak while the rest is standard-cut oak (to help balance out costs, since large solid quartersawn pieces are outrageously expensive). They took great pains to match the stain to our other wood floors and trim, which was already an odd mix of light and dark. Also, the placement of the most beautiful woodgrain patterns came out really nicely. I think he has photos of the project on his website. I am very pleased with the result and found their company and conversation extremely pleasant- great people and very easy to communicate with. I cannot say the same about every contractor I've worked with, esp when they send in crews that don't speak English.
There were some nail pops in the sheetrock but that's a risk with any renovation project-- and they were easily repaired. If getting your job done quickly is a priority, you should be very clear about that when you get bids and expect to have some tradeoffs for speed-- With the stair project, we had some delays that couldn't be helped due the winter weather, illness, structural surprises that pop up in a 1939 home, etc but it was well worth the wait. (The structural surprise was that our stairs turned out to be missing a stringer under the treads, so that was a slight cost increase above the original bid, but a very reasonable one.) We could have gone a cheaper, quicker route by having a bigger company send in a whirlwind crew to simply install a premade stair kit but then we would have average humdrum stairs that look like everyone else's. My dad is an old-school carpenter and he was impressed with their work, too. I would enthusiastically recommend them for any project where your top priority is quality of design and execution.

did everything from putting a bed together, building a door to a pantry, quarter rounds and face boards installation. He was timely, professional and worked the entire 6 hours.

It's not surprising that the provider requested to be removed from Angie's List, which is essentially the only only independent, impartial referee that assesses the quality of service provided--and that provides some form of accountability. That action sends a warning signal.
While merchant, to be fair, provided excellent assistance in designing the Ikea kitchen and accompanied us there to help shop and order, and did a good job with an on schedule installation, problems arose in terms of his standing behind his work and following through on commitments that he had made. He had actually volunteered to come back to help us replace two drawer fronts that were defective, once we purchased the necessary replacements. That was back in November 2013. Despite multiple phone calls + emails, and promises "to come when I get a
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
"--it never happened. Nor did he say simply at any point, I will be glad to come on {date X} but need to ask that you cover my expenses to the tune of $75.00. He delayed through December, January, February, and March, despite multiple calls. Only in April when we called again, was he prepared to come--at that point too late for us to be able to receive the necessary reimbursement credit from Ikea. Only when we offered to pay him to come did things began to change--and when we offered to split the difference with him for his fee--he refused any attempt to compromise. He also said he would come (just a couple of days ago) some time within a window of Monday through Friday, 8 am through 3:30 pm--hardly a meaningful window that would allow anyone to plan.
We would have been very happy to pay his fee if the work would have been provided in a timely way. We were also uncomfortable that he threw some items in our dumpster that he knew where not supposed to be placed there according to the contract with the dumpster provider (and covered them). That is not professional.

We were SO pleased with Plumtree. It's rare to find a remodeling company who will take on small jobs, so I was immediately happy to find that Plumtree was happy to do it. They were extremely flexible (our closing date got moved three times, and they were ready to go as soon as we were) and the floors look amazing. The minor repairs consisted of replacing a non-functioning outdoor light, a non-functioning indoor light, a broken window, and repairing and repainting window sills that had been chewed up by our dogs. The odd jobs got done all in one morning, and the floor got done in the weekend before Christmas. The experience was so much better than others I've had with contractors. Couldn't be happier.

Tremendous. This company is extreemly professional. Everything was done in a timely manner and was finished exactly when he said it would be. When he did the addition, he matched the new part perfectly with the old part...doesn't look like you are stepping into an addition. They made an interesting roof line so that it wouldn't look like everyone else's addition.
Used great quality materials and helped me to pick things that went well with everything else. Chose some very interesting woods for the cupboards in the kitchen...and had the cupboards custom made.
When they built the garage, again, it all came together just as he said it would. They worked on it until it was done and worked very hard to make sure water issues would be addressed.
I highly recommend this builder. The owner really has an eye for construction and knows how to do things right the first time.
If you want quality work, this is the contractor for you.

It went very well. It was nice to work with a smaller company who was interested in my business and responsive to my questions/timeline.
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
was very courteous/responsive and listened to what I wanted. His finishing work was impeccable. My wife and I are very picky on things we pay a lot of money for and were very happy with the finished product. I would hire
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
again without hesitation. As I hired sub-contractors myself on this project, I ran into some that were not very interested in my business. This was not the case with
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
. I got
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
's information through a referral from my drywall contractor In hindsight, if I knew then what I know now, I would've just hired
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
to take care of the entire project.

I had the pleasure of working with
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
after moving into a historical home that sorely needed some targeted updates. From the first encounter with
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
, i was sure this was the contractor who could best help me with the transformation I was seeking. I initially heard about
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
from a subcontractor who highly recommended the company, and it seems
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
has a well-deserved reputation in St.
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
for thoughtfully restoring and remodeling historical homes.

and Jade, the company's designer, listened carefully to what I was hoping to achieve (renovate the second-floor bathroom, convert a small second-floor bedroom into a laundry room, and tackle some major issues in the basement to prep for eventual finishing). One of my favorite parts of the initial process was reviewing the design options. Jade drafted three to four layouts for each area under consideration. Each design addressed my "must-haves" in unique ways. Envisioning the spaces via these carefully conceived blueprints was the perfect way to launch the project.
Once the designs were set,
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
and Jade did a fantastic job guiding me through the selection process. They offered parameters and input when requested, but I felt ownership over the materials I selected.
The carpenters who work for
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
are truly wonderful. Of everyone who came and went over the several-month renovation, I came to know the carpenters best because of the sheet amount of time they spent here. Creative, talented, thorough, kind...just a few words to describe them. I always felt at home with them in my living space. They went the extra mile time and time again. And after seeing just what a large role the carpenters had in every facet of this renovation, I am so thankful for their expert skills.
I also had good experiences with all of
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
' subcontractors (plumbers, HVAC, electricians, painter, etc). Everyone was friendly, efficient, and mindful of being in someone's living space.
I was impressed with the transparency of the contract and the meticulous documentation of modifications to the project's scope as we went along. I had access to the precise cost of each component of the renovation. This was a refreshing contrast to a past experience with another contractor (different house), where costs seemed
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
and lumped together.
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
undertakes the design and renovation process with candor, enthusiasm, and the promise to do the job right. I felt that
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
was truly an advocate for me, always trying to ensure that I received the advantage in any situation. I highly recommend this company and its team of subcontractors for any home renovation projects you may be considering.

We used
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
to paint our two story, 80 + year old colonial home. They were expensive but the crew members did a tremendous job with so much attention to detail.
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
(the carpenter) did an excellent job replacing multiple rotted pieced of siding, a few windowsills, and the headers and jambs (sp?) of all our outside windows. They look new.
Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
was the crew leader on the prep, scraping, priming and painting of the house and he and the other two members,

Saint Paul Carpenters Provider Name Locked
did a phenomenal job. They heat treated a number of areas on our house (windowsills, and decorative piece) to remove 80+ years of paint that was cracked and ratty looking. They scrapped and cleaned the house before priming it and painting it (following specific procedures as we had lead paint on our home). They showed up everyday exactly at 7:30 AM and went through what they would be doing that day so we always knew exactly where we were on the timeline. They were great about answering any questions, and daily asked if there was anything we had concerns about. They did not take any shortcuts and they treated our home like it was their own. The house looks terrific and we are thrilled with the outcome. I would highly recommend their work.
