Delayed roofing repairs frustrates Minneapolis homeowner

COMPLAINT: Barbara Moffett, Minneapolis

"I hired Seal Guard Systems Inc. to install a new roof, fascia and gutters. Two months later, a big elm fell onto my roof during a storm.

"Seal Guard was supposed to return within two to four weeks to do the repairs. I've since called more than 20 times, and my calls are often ignored. They finally completed the repairs three months later.

"The work seemed shoddy to me. They didn't repair the lowest rows of roofing with new panels. They covered the damage by tacking on a short piece of edging.

"None of the damaged panels or edging on the west side were replaced. The original wood is exposed."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want the job completed properly on a schedule I can count on. I want one person as a contact."

"We apologize in not getting the repair completed in a timely manner on the member's roof. She stated in her complaint that Seal Guard's work had been completed, but only the roof had been worked on.

"Separate subcontractors will complete the fascia and gutter work. Seal Guard has been extremely busy repairing hail and wind damaged properties, and we work on the most urgent repairs first, such as leaking roofs, and her roof was not leaking.

"All the service issues at the home have been addressed. Seal Guard will provide the member with a contact person, and the other subcontractors will repair the fascia and gutters."
