Nevertheless, it was with some trepidation that I brought the beloved, high quality, hand-woven silk and wool Persian carpet I had inherited from my grandfather for cleaning. I was greatly reassured by the knowledge which my service person displayed while we were examining my rug. We discussed several different cleaning possibilities before settling on the one we thought ran the least risk of damaging my carpet, given that we did not know exactly what dyes had been used. I left nervous (this carpet is not only valuable but has important sentimental value to me) but satisfied. I received email a week later, as discussed, and came in to pick up my rug. However, my timing was unfortunate and I arrived just as several other customers were collecting *their* rugs. A different service person (

) came to help me. He took my ticket number--and, somewhat to my dismay, I found myself bustled efficiently out to my car and my rug stowed in the back seat before I could say anything about opening the rug or examining it to personally inspect how the cleaning had gone. I did not feel right about this, but assumed all would be well. It is difficult therefore to describe my feelings when I opened up the rug the next morning and discovered that the fringe on one end had been extensively ripped out and damaged--a u-shaped chunk about two feet long was simply missing. I immediately contacted

who answered the phone) and described the rug. His response was completely calm, and focused from the beginning on resolving my complaint. He wanted to look at the carpet as soon as possible, and gave me the choice of having someone come to my house, or me bringing the rug back to their store, for examination. I opted to bring the rug to them. Before bringing the rug in, despite

's reassurances, I was nervous and upset--and of course felt rather silly, having failed to have taken a photo of my rug in the condition in which I had brought it to them when I first arrived at their company (how difficult would it have been to take a snap or two with my cellphone?). Wanting to have proof that the fringe, when I had brought it in to them, was in good condition, I combed through my photo archive, and of course there was no clear recent picture of the rug in its undamaged state--though I did find one or two where it was possible to see that the rug at least HAD fringe in the area where it was now bare. I printed several of these photos out to bring with me to

. I was fully prepared to pay for the damage myself, but I wanted it to be clear that THIS WAS SOMETHING THEY HAD DONE, and, of course, that I was very upset that they had sent the rug home to me in a damaged condition without giving me forewarning that damage had occurred. When I arrived,

"It was just like the commercial. I called them on Monday, they came out Tuesday night, and we had an install setup for Friday (could have done it Thursday, but Friday worked better for us). When the installer came out, he noticed we had drain tile in the room and suggested that we glue the tack strips instead of pounding them in. Since he had no glue, he came out Saturday, set the strips and came back Monday to get the carpet in. The crew was very professional and friendly. "We removed old carpet ourselves. The installer did a good job with the installation itself, but clean up was disappointing. He put away his own tools and rolled unused carpet. He bagged the extra scraps of carpet and pad but left the bags on our driveway for us to dispose of and did not vacuum once carpet was installed. I spent an additional two hours cleaning up before returning the furniture. Maybe this is normal but I was not aware of this policy."
