After cutting copper to make room for his wrench to remove the di-electric fitting for the cold-water feed at the top of the tank, he persisted putting all his weight into it until it finally came free. Remnants of the old dip tube were extracted, less than 3" left, and the new tube was cut to length and inserted in its place. A new di-electric fitting was installed. The copper was cut back in and all couplings sweated. The unit was then flushed several times--and the faucet cartridge for hot water to the bathroom sink that was clogged, was blown clear of bits of plastic--with aerator cleared and reattached. The job took about an hour, with minimum materials since I had ordered the dip tube myself. And though I offered to pay with a check, I signed for the work and was e-mailed an invoice the next day.
