"I went into the office on 8/5/13 to get VOIP phone service for my business. The charge would be $25/mo. However, the next day I met with the office manager of where I was renting an office 3 nights per week, and learned that my rent would be much higher than I had expected. Thus, to save money, I decided to use my existing cell phone for this part-time business. After returning home I called the sales rep,

me to believe that he wasn't going to cancel it, so later I sent him an email cancelling the installation, and he replied that he would do this. But on 8/14/13 I received an email from AT&T that the installation was still scheduled. I tried to cancel the order on-line, but their system couldn't find the order. Next, I went through a series of calls until I finally reached someone who would cancel it. But my cell phone's battery died half-way through the call. The next day I called AT&T back and learned that the order had been cancelled. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE!

"I have contacted 17 different people over a week's time and I have been given the run around, transferred to others, been told by supervisors that they would check into it and call me back.. Each time I have phoned, I have been told something different. My phone line was even disconnected mid conversation with a rep., therefore, supposedly not allowing her to put in my request, but leaving me without a landline for 4 days. I was even told that my phone number of 20 yrs. was actually a different number, and it has to be disconnected! I have been told that systems are down, that it's not my area, that it takes 48 hrs to reconnect with the last rep or super I was speaking with, and to call back (giving or leaving no contact info!) it's been more of a mess than I can explain, and countless hours. They say they value me as a customer, but it is clear that they do not! I am still waiting for that promised "phone call" back to inform me as to what is going on. If I call again, it will be the 18th time, and each time requires starting all over again with what is happening. They apologize and tell you to not text and drive, but they do not solve the problem. The linesman said it was an easy fix. How many AT nT workers does it take to reactivate a landline? 17. It's not funny is it? Exactly.

"'ve had ATT for home phone and DSL for a decde now. The DSL crashes sometimes, though not often, and when I have called customer service to see whether it's the whole area, or just my house or PC/modem, they have no clue...then later I learn it was the whole area...or the other way around...Often it's wind and rain on the outside wiring, and I have to wait it out.
The outsourced "help" is not knowldegeable enough to handle anything I can't handle on my own, and that's not saying much. They put you through the usual steps you've already done, such as reset the modem, etc....and when you've repeated it all, they offer you paid technical assit...which I almost bought, before I called a neighbor up the block w/ ATT who reported hers was down, too!
The cost of that unneeded technical help was a large up-front sum, can't remember exactly but something like $50!
They have installed U-verse in my neighborhood, and I use DSL since I do not have time to watch TV, only own one TV. I don't need TV service. But can't buy broadband by itself. Only DSL is available w/o U-Verse entire package. DSL and basic phone are about 80.00/month.
The serviceman they once sent to repair an inside wiring problem did fix it, and was pleasant and professional. He shared that ATT is aggressively pushing U-verse and have decided to simply cut off service to DSL customers one by one. The next time th stubborn DSL hold-outs need an outside wiring repair, they'll force conversion by saying it can't be fixed, and U-Verse is now their only option. They aren't telling customers in advance, though. I don't know if this is true, but...he works for ATT, or did at the time!
Furthermore, a salesman alleging he was from ATT showed up last summer pushing U-verse yet again. and told me that it was, "sign up now at the discount rate, or be forced to switch in the 6 months or so at the regular rates", as ATT was closing out DSL in my area sometime this year. Yet there have been no formal announcements nor letters saying so. I'm trying to imagine any reason someone wuld pretend to be from ATT, as he was no asking to come in nor anything that would seem like a scam to scope out my home for a burglary, etc. He had the badge and clipboard, too.
I get those aggressive U-verse "offers" almost weekly, and the intro rate is wayyy less than the true rate, not to mention the massive installation cost in installments. The teaser rate is just low enouth that it might be do-able--but soon after it ends, the "real rate" kicks in.
