"Brendt came to bid on a small patch repair job in my sidewalk. It was about 3ft x 2.5ft. He said the area surrounding that damaged area was hollow and thus would have to be removed. So he bided for 30x2.5 ft area. It was much more extensive than I wanted it but I agreed to it because I did not know much about concrete repair.
The job he did seems to be reasonable and I would have given him a much higher score but he called me after he had taken out the sidewalk to tell me that it would cost extra $200. He insisted that it was for the material not the labor. I do not understand how that made me any difference and how he underestimated on the material if he has been doing this for 20+ years like he claimed. Increase in the cost was not a reflection of increase in work it was just underestimation.
I reluctantly okayed it. Then after he finished I asked if he fixed the small crack which I had asked him to fix at the time of the estimate. He said no and gave me many reasons why he did not want to. I reminded him that he had assured me several times that he would take care of it. At that point he said "though it is not in the bid I will still fix it for you". It it then I realized that this guy lacked integrity. After increasing the project cost by $200 he wanted to get by without doing what was agreed upon prior to the start of the job and make it sound as though he was doing me a great favor by finishing.
Unfortunately, I also had a ticked off neighbor during this project. When I questioned Brendt about this he said that his son offered my neighbor to pour mortar mix into her meticulously kept flagstone walkway. She found that to be a rude as she walked away. I can understand her annoyance toward this unsolicited offer.
Overall, I regret having hired this contractor and will not hire him again or recommend him."

"Same as the first project they did. They are there on the day they say they will be. Even though weather was terrible they did everything possible and accomplished job on time. They added double crew on non raining days to stay on time! Owner, , also has very good artistic landscape vision and suggestions and created a beautiful within the woods with view of pond. Honesty and intelligence in dealing with owner are a rare and wonderful quality. Crew is always respectful, clean cut, and high quality."

"He was very honest and he recommended that we wait to fix it because it wasn?t necessary yet. He told us that we ought to put in some drainage and all these different things. His price was very good and it was considerably better than another quote we got. He was just so honest and told me how to save money."

"They were very nice, it's just that the resurfacing is more than the cost of replacing. Our bids for making an all new patio for less. They were very nice, but it just doesn't make financial sense to resurface. Their bid was pretty expensive. I am sure their product is fine, but it didn't make sense to do it. Our project would also involve mudjacking so it's better for us to tear it all out. They were very nice, very professional and got back to us right away. They did a very nice job. They were willing to give us all kinds of projects that they had done. "

"First, the quote by for this job was significantly less that the other quote I received. I requested a third quote from another company, but they never showed up.
(owner) was very nice and professional, and did not try to sell more than what I wanted. The first company to give me a quote acted like they didn't really want to repair the deck; but they were interested in replacing it for $30,000 !
and his partner ( ) both showed up when they said they would and performed excellent quality work. Both were very nice and honest. During the project, I requested more work (expanded scope). gave me a quick quote on the additonal work, which I accepted.
Each day, they cleaned up the yard and our driveway, where they did some sawing. At the end of the job, they left the site clean and neat. explained everything they were doing and why, as the project progressed. One of my major concerns was to have both decks level. Since they were replacing all the vertical support beams, and putting them on new footers, that was a real challenge; not to mention that each beam supported BOTH the upper and lower deck horizontal beam (which they also replaced). The work was excellent and the decks are perfectlly level.
We were extremely pleased with their professionalism and the quality of their work. We will definitly be calling on again for future projects."

"I would personally like to thank for being so kind and thougthful with our first visit. We bought a older condo that needed updating and repair. He was very fair and nice to deal with. He had ideas on how to save some money. We had more problems then expected and he fixed those also. All in all our experience with was very good. My husband and I have had repair men take advantage of us before and we felt was up front and honest with his quotes and his abilities to get the job done. We did have to wait for supplies to come in because of special ordering so it did take longer then expected, but was fast putting things together for us once the supplies arrived. We will be calling HandyJack again soon. "

"They did a good job. I got other bids and they were competitive. It's a small company. The first job had to be completed by a certain time because of a city inspection and they completed it on time. This project has been delayed because of the weather. They are top-notch. "

"We purchased a hot tub/spa and were told it would take approximately 3 weeks for delivery. Initially we called several concrete contractors and none would even come out to give a quote for at least a week. We called Mr. and he came out the same day, gave a reasonable estimate (my wife had received estimates of more than twice his quote over the phone), and said he could start work the next day. He came out and set up forms on a Saturday, and at that time he changed some things (he could not pour right up to the sidewalk, one or two other minor things). We let that go and allowed the work to continue. On the next Friday, he arrived on time with two laborers to finish preparations and pour the concrete. He finished preparations and had to wait for the ready mix truck. He had a telephone conversation with them and seemed to believe they would arrive earlier than originally scheduled, but they did not. It was August 1st, likely the hottest day of the year. Mr. did not order inhibitor in the concrete batch. He started pouring using two wheelbarrows from the . The concrete started to set very quickly and he was unable to properly draw the concrete and finish it properly. He had to pull back some of the concrete and we soon discovered that he had not ordered enough. In this case that mistake saved the project. He filled the remaining area partially with the hot, quickly setting concrete then ordered 2 more yards (originally asking for 5.5 for the whole project). The second load (actually 2.5 yards sent by the supplier since they wanted to be sure this time) came and the pour went smoothly from then on. He used all of the second order, so he used a total of 8 yards when he originally ordered 5.5 yards. The end result was a pad with part that is poorly finished (luckily the spa sits on this part) and the other part fairly well done. However the scalloping we asked for was not as designed - the form bent under the weight of the concrete and produced a different pattern. We allowed that to pass since it still looked OK. Mr. attempted to blame the concrete supplier for the hot concrete that set too quickly. In fact, the driver did forget the rebar and the supplier claimed that he turned around after only 10-15 minutes of the trip so he was only 30 minutes later than expected. Due to the conflict, Mr. refused to pay for the concrete at the time of the job, saying he would negotiate a lower price. After a few weeks of negotiations between the supplier, Mr. and me, the supplier send a letter threatening a mechanic's on our house unless we paid for the concrete. After several attempts by my wife and myself to get Mr. to pay, I eventually paid the supplier to avoid the . I have been unable to recover the portion of the money given to Mr. that was intended to cover the materials ($708.66). I have a receipt that states "materials included"."

"I had been putting off this job because I knew it would be a big mess. They came exactly when they said they would to do the job. They removed and poured the concrete the same day. This surprised me very much because this was a very big job. They had to tear up some of the yard to remove the concrete. While their trucks were parked on the street a neighbor drove their car into another neighbors yard and left some deep ruts. Concrete replacement phoned me and told me not to worry that they would make everything look like it did before. I was a little skeptical. They came the next day and cut in sod at the neighbors house and mine also. In my opinion they went above and beyond to satisfy everyone. Guy, who is the owner, personally looked after everything."

"Arrived early for estimate. Gave us several options, dropped off example of one type of finish a few days later. Estimate arrived when they said it would. Checked with us to see how our bidding process was going, never a pest. Did have to delay start due to weather, I'm glad they didn't start then have to wait a few days to finish. Did an outstanding job. On time, cleaned up. Exactly what we wanted and what they said it would be. I highly recommend them for concrete work."
