"The person that came was very efficient, and they came on short notice, because it was the holidays and I had family coming. He was able to come right out and do" both estimates, and he was very clean. Once he left, you couldn't even tell he'd been there.

-Ossie B.

"They came out to look at my ceiling fan. They didn't consider a fan an appliance but took at it anyway and found the blade hitting the wire. They moved it and" it worked just fine. They are excellent.

Small Appliances and Kitchen Gadgets

Small appliances play a big role in our daily lives. When shopping for microwave ovens, vacuums, toasters, mixers and more, choose appliances that fit your need and budget. When it comes to repairs, compare the cost of fixing to the cost of replacing the item.

Few kitchen appliances get as much use as the garbage disposal. And over the years, common issues such as jamming and leaking can occur. However, a disposal not operating properly or maintained can break down and cause plumbing issues - leading to costly repairs.

Electrical kitchen appliances aren't always easy to repair (or replace) and the work can be costly.

Is it worth it to fix your small kitchen appliances?

If your disposal is about 5 to 10 years old and troubled, it may make more sense to replace and not repair it.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

Since you asked this question over a year ago, I'm pretty sure you've already made your decision but I'd like to offer you some advice.  You mentioned your husband vacuumed the coils and it worked for a couple more weeks.  Chances are the condenser coils were very dirty when he did this.  When refrigerator condenser coils are dirty, the compressor overheats and heat will cause a compressor to fail prematurely.  You should vacuum or blow out your condenser coils regularly.  Today's refrigerator compressors are not made to last like they were in the past.  I remember when it wasn't unusual for a compressor to last 30 years.  You won't see that happen with the way refrigerator compressors are made today.  Regular cleaning of your condenser coils is crucial in preventing premature failure of your compressor.  For more tips, check out my article here on Angie's list titled "How To Avoid Appliance Repairs"

-Bob Meadows/B&D Appliance Repair Service/Palmdale, CA

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

It's worth having a qualified appliance tech take a look to find out the cost to repair it. Since the refrigerator side works, it's not likely the compressor or the coil. Could just be the fan switch on the door.

The service I received from at A&T was great. I phoned him and he picked up immediately. He asked if I was free that day and within 2 hours he was at my home and fixing the issue. I was amazed at his punctuality and his eagerness to complete the job so quickly. The supplier for oven parts had recommended him to me and ...More didn't disappoint. I am uncertain whether this was a -competitive price to pay for the work or not but the oven is fixed in record-time and with little effort on my part so I am happy. I'd highly recommend trying A&T.

I can't repeat this enough, DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT use this company!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly I don't even know where to begin.... 2/24- called about my dishwasher getting repaired and they said on 2/26 someone would be able to take a look (ok cool) 2/26- technician comes out and diagnoses with needing a new pump. Oh and ...More a side note: the tech manages to drain the water from the dishwasher all over my floor so I got the pleasure of giving him 6 clean towels since I cleaned them the day before. Nothing like walking up the stairs with soaking wet towels to do a load of laundry. Checks his truck for the part and the warehouse only to find out they have to order the part (cool still no problem). Keep in mind they said they would have the part as early as the next day. 2/27- problems start rolling...they call me to let me know the part is delayed and will get there by noon on Friday (ok still no problem, stuff happens). They inform me we can schedule it to be put in on Saturday anywhere between 10-2. This is my fault because I forgot I had to attend a child's birthday party so I called to cancel and asked if Monday morning would be ok and they said yes no problem. 3//3-So Monday rolls around and I get a call saying they still don't have the part (hmmm so I'm thinking it was a good thing I cancelled on Saturday). Alright so when is this part coming in??? They assure me it will be in Wednesday. I'm trying hard to give them the benefit of the doubt but ok. I've already given them money for the diagnosis and that amount is going toward the pump and labor so if I call someone else I will and least in my head thought I would time and money.... 3/6- Now it's Thursday and they have the pump and they are going to fix this problem (or so I thought). Replaces the pump and ends up telling me they have to also replace this switch now. Alright I'm dealing with it but hey everyone makes mistakes and he didn't catch it. What's another day, right?!? 3/7- gets the switch and comes back on Friday and I'm thinking no big deal. He came back real fast and hopefully problem solved. He leaves and tells me it's good to go (or so we all thought)! That night I started loading it up to finally use my dishwasher... 3/10- well we were pretty busy that weekend and not at the house much so I never ran the dishwasher because it wasn't full. It's Monday and it's full so time to put this thing to use. Hmmm, there is no water anywhere. Turns on but no water so it just shuts off. Of course I call my " friends" at appliance repair and they said ok we'll send out tomorrow and see what happened. In the meantime we notice our garbage disposal leaking like it has a crack. Hmmm, that's strange because it was 100% fine. 3/11-I get a call saying the tech got into a car wreck and won't be able to come by. They'll call me tomorrow with his status to reschedule...ok.... 3/12- ok he's going to make it out between 4-8. He's shows up and tells my husband (I'm at work) that the switch slipped and it happens but all is good. My husband mentions the leak and he shines a flashlight on it and told my husband everything is good to go.... That night I text my husband to make sure everything was good and this mysterious leak was fixed only to find out after he put our baby to bed and went to do dishes that the leak wasn't fixed. He turned on the dishwasher which then had another leak that was pooling outside of the dishwasher on our hardwood floors. ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW?!?!?!?!? 3/13- ring ring again to talk to my friends. I explained the leaks and so they agreed to send someone new out since didn't understand how to fix the problem. 3/14- Another Friday night waiting on the lovely repair people...here comes . Seems like a nice guy. Took a look and was floored at what an awful job did. He informed me this is his 3rd repair he has had to repair from 's work. He said the disposal had a crack and didn't even understand how and why that would have happened but that it was a fresh crack and clearly it was caused by . He then tells me the pump may have issues and probably will need a whole new one because he messed that up as well as some new tubing. WOW- I'm now in a worst situation than I started with. I have a bowl under my sink catching dirty disposal water and water pooling outside of the dishwasher when all I do is hand wash dishes. Ok so the part thing again... They claimed to have ordered them on the spot and should be there Monday/Tuesday and install on Wednesday.... 3/17- I called them myself to find out if they have these parts and what the status is. Looking good to install on Wednesday. Call me tomorrow to schedule a time... 3/18- still no call....I call them and they say we will call you tomorrow and schedule a time but most likely going to be the 4-8 time slot.... 3/19- hmmm still no call...not looking good. To no surprise I call them just to be told tomorrow tomorrow. 3/20-yep it's 3:00 and still nothing. I call them (shocker) and I blow up. I'm done being nice and understanding. I'm soooo beyond mad at this point I it rightfully! He assures me tomorrow and puts in the time 10-2. I tell him it better be on the 10 side!!! 3/21- well today is the day or so they say....it's 11 am and still nothing. I wanted to go to the gym and my husband was at home with my toddler. They wanted to run to the park so my husband calls before I leave to make sure they give a courtesy call and they can run back to the house so we don't miss the tech. Well, well, well my husband gets off the phone to find out the new tech seems to be MIA. Who are these people?!?!?!? He apparently has all the parts with him. Are you kidding me?!?!! I wish!!! I demand my money back, and my disposal to be fixed since they are the ones that messed it up. The best part. the one who has been speaking to me about the situation and owner acts like they are being so nice to replace the mess up they made-UNBELIEVABLE!!! I'm so irate he puts me on hold to ignore me. Could anyone blame me?!? He says there are no other techs except the incompetent idiot who failed to fix my dishwasher and destroy my garbage disposal and that he's the only option to at least fix the disposal. I didn't want him 10 ft from my house. I told them they need to call another company and pay them to do this job. At this point I just want their mess up fix and to call someone else about the dishwasher. I for whatever reason agreed to let that tech back into my house and supposedly fix the damage he caused to begin with. So he came over to only fix that and return my check. I'm praying there are no issues with the garbage disposal so now I have to start from square 1 and find another repair person to fix the original problem which who even know if it's was diagnosed correctly or he didn't damage other existing parts. I have a bad feeling this isn't the last of my phone calls to them. Needless to say DO NOT USE THIS "COMPANY"!!!!!!!!!!!
- Tiffany G.

I emailed. Was given a phone number for an individual. A business answered. They took my info and called back. They promised a telephone quote the following day. They never called back. I emailed and left a voice mail and still haven't heard from them in over two weeks.

I can’t recommend enough to anyone smart enough to listen. This summer, completed an exterior deck remodel and a kitchen remodel on my house. From the start of the project (the concept phase) to the completion of my punch list, and did a fantastic ...More job through and through. They were on time, UNDER budget and kept in contact with me on a daily basis. Honestly, at the end of the project, I got a little emotional that it was finished as they had become family to me.

is an EXCELLENT project manager. She worked diligently to get me the best pricing on tile, granite, glass railing, shower doors… you name it. Any “large ticket” item, thoroughly researched, made several calls, “hounded” manufacturers, all in the name of Project Management and all so I could get the best price. Her invoices were line item detailed like I have never experienced before thus enabling me to discuss the minutia of each item of my project. I was able to say “ actually didn’t paint that board on my upstairs deck so we need to take of $XX from this invoice…” and she did. Best of all, is an excellent interior designer and her ideas were fantastic. She sketched out a model of where she thought things should go and I never looked back. She has even gone out of her way and communicated to me the best vendors she knows for the large pots I want to plant my flowers in next summer (not part of the scope of my project).

And and his crew—I can not even express how professional they are, what wonderful craftsmen they are, and moreover, what plain nice people they are. It was a pleasure each and every day to see ’s white van in my driveway as I drove up from work. I trusted him 100% and from the beginning had no issues giving him full access to my house while I was away. He is a miracle worker. Period. I had some very detailed millwork that I wanted matched and did that seamlessly. Any minor punch list items I had were completed with no questions asked. even took it upon him upon himself to point out things he thought could be done better and redid them (and these were not easy items—he removed by decking a second time to certain areas that squeaked that he was certain had not squeaked before—as issue I had not even noticed). There was no project that was too small for him to help me with (in the middle of the job, I mentioned how dirty my gutters were and the next thing I knew, showed up with a pressure washer to take care of it).

From a business perspective, prices can’t be beat. My project was roughly 20% under what I had budgeted and much less than any estimates I received from their competitors. Moreover, I got so much more in terms of customer services for my money than I had anticipated. In short, I am beyond happy with and want to shout to the world that really there ARE good, honest, nice contractors out there. All they wanted to do was please me which they did ten times over. Yes, I highly recommend and and Remolding (including , their wonderful black lab)!

Thank you again and !

- Kelly B.

Two visits to fix a high end washing machine. He charges the going rate but fixed it properly. As a property manager with a lot of appliance issues at multliple locations, I will use him again ( ,the business owner/technician).

Very pleasant guy. The ambiance in shop is really nice; parking available in rear but I found street parking OK! I love this place and trust "my baby" with him. that is saying a lot here in Seattle where we must have our coffee! My only gripe is that he can't fix it immediately while I am in store. I hate to be without my machine!

We really could not ask for a better plumbing company to work with. I had to cancel my first appointment with them due to illness, and they were lovely about rescheduling. All around really good vibes from this company - and great work. sat with us when he was finished and went over the report in detail. He educated us about ...More a few things we need to look at in the future, but gave us a "clean Bill" of plumbing health!
Hire them! I will again. Thank you DrainAway!
- Christine B.

Called the plumber...leaking disposal...He said he would come Friday afternoon or Saturday morning at 9AM because I have an appointment at 11. He quoted me a price.
I noticed I was expecting him to arrive late or not at all. When I noticed that, I decided to expect him to be on time. He showed up on time, was a very nice man, did the job quickly ...More and in a professional manner and THEN he lowered the price because my plumbing was updated, the area was clean and ready for him to work and it was an easy job for him. Now HE is a plumber I can recommend!
Anyone need a plumber?
