Seattle Door Installers Reviews

"I sought multiple bids for the project and gave Ethos a shot because of Angie's List reviews. Bill came to do the assessment and bid. I did not have to wait very long for an appointment date. He was on time and was by far the most knowledgeable of the bidders and provided the most in-depth comments, ideas, and options. (For example, I assumed we'd have to replace both the front door and the front storm door. He thought they might be able to do some adjustments and get the front door working correctly. (The storm door was definitely a deteriorating mess...) He could have immediately sold me a front door without offering to try fixing it first.
I'd done some homework and learned things like you need to make sure the bid gets written up with the exact manufacturer name/model numbers so you get what you thought you were paying for. Bill's bid already had all the features of a proper bid. The biggest cost is the doors/related hardware, by the way. We were able to use all our hardware again which saved quite a bit of money plus we didn't have to re-key. I felt comfortable with the labor costs and confident in the company's skill so we made a partial payment. It takes a few weeks (sometimes more) for the doors to actually arrive after being ordered (and a bit longer if you want them to be pre-painted a particular color.) We were able to schedule door installations within a week or so after they arrived at Ethos.
I feel bad for Ethos because the extent of crumbling/rotting cedar siding and door sills may have been a lot more than even they anticipated. Nonetheless, they stuck with the bid. The installation processes went smoothly from my perspective. The first day they finished the shop door install as well as a door and a storm door leading to the deck. The installer called me over to point out issues, ask for my preferences, etc. Housekeeping was good. He was pleasant and professional. They needed to return to do the storm door on the front of house and try to get the front door working without replacing it. (Note: we have less daylight in the winter.)
Unfortunately, the front door problems didn't respond properly to repair efforts even after a couple of hours of working at it. They gave it a really good try. We needed to order a new one after all. Also, there was a lot more rot affecting the areas to which we needed to attach and caulk things. We interrupted the project to order the new front door. The project resumed 4-6 weeks later.
I lack the language to describe everything done, but I can tell great attention to detail was paid to make sure everything was done correctly. For example, despite having had our prior good quality doors "professionally" installed, you could see daylight on some of the sides from the get go. I thought it wasn't possible to get tight on the sides, only the bottom of the door if you used weather stripping. From the get go the front door would stick on the side that had the handle, sometimes you'd have to actually pull up on the knob to lift the door a bit and be able to get it open. The door installed by Ethos fits perfectly.....
One of the days
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
, the office manager, came on-site because she was curious and the company owner wanted her to be able to see what it really takes to get the job done out in the field. She has always been pleasant and responsive (by email and phone) so it was nice to meet her. I also thought it was great for the owner to care enough about the customers and his staff to invest in hands on education.
We love all 5 new doors and how smoothly they operate. Ethos has been very easy to deal with, responsive, flexible, never cut corners, and I ended up confident that they are successful because they put the best interests of the customer ahead of looking at profit margins.
We have some windows we will want replace in the next year or two and Ethos will get the work, no question about it. Also, I've since learned they do general construction work. I just scheduled an appointment for them to take a look at a kitchen/bath remodel we are ready to undertake. I'll keep y'all posted on how that goes.

"I opened the only door to my townhouse at 6:30 AM. I heard a loud cracking sound. A lower hinge had pulled away from the door frame. The door would still close but would not lock. I was stuck in my house until someone could repair it. I checked three options but this was an emergency and fortunately this was my day off.

of
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
was fantastic. I called when his business opened (9AM) and in about an hour (my home is far from his business) he was at my door. In 15 minutes the door was repaired, realigned, and the lock was fully functional. In 5 more minutes he explained why the damage occurred, what he did to repair it, and gave good advice on caring for my door from the problems of wind and water. I was amazed at his excellent service and is in my permanent list of contractors that I will hire in the future.

"I'm extremely pleased with the final product. The shower door and the install are gorgeous. I also appreciate Bill's professionalism and courtesy. The initial door we ordered was entirely too short for our bathtub. Bill handled the return, ordered a new door, and did both with a smile.
What I wish would have gone differently: 1. Clearly there was confusion as to the height of the door. Hence the reorder 2. I had an issue with the billing department and caught a mistake prior to final payment. Bill adjusted the tab on the fly, but would have been a pain if I wasn't paying attention.
In short, really pleased with the work and really enjoyed working with Bill & team.

is the man. Quoted the work, then jumped in to do it. Easy to schedule via email. It took him longer than he anticipated, but he honored the quote like a pro.

disassembled our really awful front door and worked his magic. It now closes with the touch a finger and the locking mechanism (which feels like from 1938) works beautifully for the first time since we moved in.
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
worked his magic tuning my son's room door so it closes like butter. Finally, he shaved down a closet sliding door that was dragging on the carpet.
I don't know how he does his magic, but I do know the doors work like new. Based on his work, I'm getting

to do more locks and doors around the house. You should too.

"It went very well.
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
and
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
were very responsive (responding quickly to phone calls, texts and emails), friendly, helpful and professional.
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
came and gave us a quote for the tear down and framing before the project and stuck exactly to the price he gave. Installation of the floors plus doors and trim was negotiated during the project and ther price for that work was very fair.
Throughout the project they were friendly and very helpful. They offered to build us a walk in wardrobe (and did not charge us for this in the end) informing us that the new room would not count as a bedroom if we did not do this. This was extra work for them, for no extra money.
They always cleaned up after themselves very well. They also cleaned up after our other contractors (plumber/electrician) who left a mess and did not care to clean up.
They were way more helpful than they needed to be - offering to pick up materials that we had agreed to provide (doors etc). Again - this cost them extra work and we did not pay extra.
They also did more than we expected when doing the trim work, going as far as caulking everything in.
Any little details that were not as they liked them, they took care of, returning as many times as it took to get the work up to their own standards of quality, which were high. This effort I really appreciated. We did not have to raise any issues with them as anything we might have thought to comment on, they already took care of on their own initiative before we had a
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
to comment on it. They also took care of a few things we would not have noticed.
All in all a pleasure to work with and very good value for money.

"As an architect, I have worked with many small contractors and have had a variety of experieinces.
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
did, by far, the best quality work, in a reasonable time frame and kept the house clean which working in all rooms. I have had the opportunity to refer them to others which I do unequivocally. My husband and I don't look for the cheapest price but rather for the best value--which we received in both service and product. Our contact was

Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
was exceptional in keeping us informed of the status of the project every step of the way. The house was well protected from the dust and dirt. The cost of the project was very reasonable for the quality of the work that was done.

The service was excellent and the job and space were complicated taking a lot of skill and experience. The job extended over a 6-8 month period.

"The quality of work was excellent. After it was completed the only call back was one of the chimney caps came loose and tipped over during the wind storm. They quickly came out and repaired.
The job was complex and it was performed completely to my satisfaction. The interior drywall work was done by

Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
as he is the best I have ever seen.
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
is a master carpenter and his interior trim work was the best. He did all the inside and outside carpentry work and did a great job. The painter
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
also did superb work. All the people did excellent and quality work. The roofing crew were top-notch and the gutter installers were the best.
There were some delays in the project that had to do with Oasis scheduling which should not be my problem. These delays were not due to a window that needed to be re-ordered. I felt my interior work should have been worked on and completed right after the new windows were installed (except the re-ordered window). I waited over 2 1/2 weeks to get my interior completed and the new hardware on my doors. They used the old hardware on the new doors temporarily during that time. That was not acceptable and was expressed so.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the work. I have heard many nightmare stories from folks who did major remodels and I did not have one with Oasis - albeit the delays. I would recommend them, but spell out the timing and scheduling details to prevent delays not due to supply vendors.

"Instead of the 3.4 weeks they estimated, it took 7 weeks to get most of the work done. We had a previously-scheduled trip out of town at that point, so when we got back it took them another four days to install the remaining doors. In terms of price, they wound up charging us about twice what was in the contract. After much hand-wringing about whether we should hold them to the contract, we compromised at half of the labor overage (and full materials, as agreed).
The quality was disappointing. In spite of their assurances, they did not know the
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
style so we had to constantly be checking and guiding their work. Often we would have to tell them specs multiple times because they would forget. They did not have good attention to detail: there were several instances where the quality of the work was shoddy and we had to insist that they redo it...and of course that was on the clock. Even now that it’s “finished,” we still have nail holes that are too obvious in the finish work.
The management of the project was also disappointing, in matters small and large: * They did not think to erect a dust shield when they started, so the first several days there was much dust even in areas of the house not being worked on. * They used our furniture as work benches and tables. * They did not believe the stain recipe we gave them that we had used in an earlier phase of our remodel, so they tried to make their own but when that didn’t match, they wound up using ours, wasting time. * They tried to stain most of the pieces at the shop, which was a good idea, but as the project wore on it was obvious they had stacked the still-wet pieces on top of each other, so the stains had
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
and had to be redone. * We got a salvaged door for one of the doorways we were replacing. Since it took them a few days to tell us it wouldn’t work, we couldn’t return it and got store credit instead. We found another salvaged door, and it took them a couple of weeks to tell us that that one wouldn’t work either, at which point we couldn’t even get store credit, were forced to order a new door from
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
, and thus had the final completion delayed. * When the final set of doors came, they initially forgot the hinges, so they had to come back another day (pretty surprising for a door company!). * Most surprisingly, the front door that we had them make for us was too short (they wanted to lower our existing transom above the door, even though we had agreed not to), and as we were running out of time, we chose to simply have them extend the door on the bottom rather than creating a new door. I regret that choice since the proportions of the door details are now off and it is obvious where the door was extended. Had the rest of the project gone closer to plan, I would have asked them to make a new door to the previously-agreed specs, but as it was, we were tired of the time, money, and stress we were spending to compensate for their deficiencies.
In summary:
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
is fine for ordering and installing windows, but save yourself the heartburn and the money and
Seattle Door Installers Provider Name Locked
’t be tempted to hire them for anything else.

was timely for an appointment to assess our need and provide an estimate. He returned at an agreed upon time several days later. He was very professional and detail oriented while working on the project. He completed the work quickly and cleaned up the area thoroughly after finishing. We have had several rains since then and no more leaks. His quality of work was very good at an affordable price.
