So, they worked around the changed pickup location and dates, I didn't hear anything until the workbench arrived on the West Coast and then had a slight delay - the delivery service on this end didn't call back for a week and a half - so I emailed
That was it - this is a workbench that my great-grandfather had built. Again, nothing fragile, but I was really happy that they took such good care of it and treated my very small account as important. I would highly recommend them again and again!
As to the quality, excellent. Staff on both the pick-up as well as the delivery were very professional and did an excellent job. All of the stuff arrived in good shape and they even reassembled the King Size Bed for us. This was my greatest fear that the goods would be delivered with major damages. The fears were groundless. I would use them again and recommend them to others.
I move a lot and have the luxury to be able to have a few days of leeway. However, I imagine most people do not.
This last move was an absolute nightmare. They were over a day late, I had to sleep on my hardwood floors. Moreover, they broke over $300 worth of furniture. On top of that, they broke my dresser right in front of me and said, because its Ikea they don't cover it. I said, it was fine 30 seconds ago and you literally just broke this in my front of my face. "Ya but we don't cover certain brands of furniture. Especially Ikea."
Mind you have moved across the country several times with Ikea furniture and know that it is easy to break but if you break a clients furniture right in front of them, one would think that you would offer a discounted rate or at least say sorry. Nothing.
I will never use them again!!! If you want something cheap and have the luxury to have your furniture show up late and broken...please feel free to use them. All I could say is...I warned you.
They made the process
We were in storage for almost three months and when they delievered our stuff not one thing was scratched, broken or damaged. Everyone including the office girls, sales staff, drivers and movers were very professional, friendly and accommodating. Well worth the price! We will tell everyone about
However, I have one caveat. When they delivered our furniture, the young man who asked me to sign off seemed in a rush, and I tried to accomodate him. I signed off on all the boxes but did not open them all until several months later, when I discovered that at least one and possibly two were missing. They contained items that I know were packed when we filled boxes. At that point, it was too late to call AMC and complain, because clearly they would have been on the truck if they were in the storage. I have no idea what might have happened, but the loss is in part because I allowed myself to be rushed. Take your time when labeling boxes (Some of ours were labeled by helpful friends.) and again when your are checking the moving company storage list in your new residence. At this point, I cannot be sure who was responsible.
After we chatted, (and he confirmed on Monday)
2 areas I think could be improved:
- Measure for actual box sizes needed for expensive paintings. The boxes they brought were not big enough, but they made a box out of 2 and wrapped appropriately. Not for storage but was good enough for me to take with me
- I'm glad I marked several items as "front of storage" b/c I really only have access to those boxes and don't have an inventory of box #'s with contents. I would have liked that, but since I can't really get to those boxes, it would only help when I finally move from storage to my new location. And yes, would I use them again? I would. In fact, when I find my new place I'll be making that call to
