is a scam and

is a crook. The Fl. Dept. of Insurance has revoked his license (he" actually didn't have all of the required licenses in the first place) but that is all they could do. So he is free to do whatever he wants provided he doesn't sell insurance anymore. I know of at least one venture that he is starting which means
will likely be scamming again. I have successfully contacted him numerous times but as soon as he hears I'm calling about the money he owes he hangs up and disconnects his phone. We can't let him get away with this. We all need to report him to the Florida Attorney General at www.myfloridalegal.com. I contacted them and they told me that they received many complaints but not enough to prosecute.

"On December 20th, 2012, I called
to dispatch a heater repair service, as the blower of my heater was failing, and giving signs of slow starts. It took 3 weeks" to get the service call completed, at the height of the cold season. The heater blower ended up failing on 12-21-12, and the house was cold, about 55 degrees F, during those three weeks. The failures of the service were: - no call back within the promised one business day deadline from the original call - scheduling of the service call 10 days after the work order was opened (despite its website and online claims of 24/7 service, the dispatched vendor, EcoSystem, did not schedule a visit until 1-2-13) - the vendor dispatched, EcoSystems, was a no show on the 1-2-13 scheduled appointment; they did not proactively call to reschedule, I had to do that myself - the vendor repairman was barely speaking English; he did not check or test the system, and basically just took out the blower engine, with no to little explanations - the vendor dispatched by
did not keep me posted daily, as I had asked them to, for the estimated time of the repair -
home warranty online representatives would take 2 to 3 days to respond to online messages, which would be useless and not timely - the repair was finally done on 1-11-13, a full three weeks after the original claim - I reached out in writing to the CEO of
, to ask for two years of service free, representing a 20% discount for such poor service; such a request was a
demand for a gesture showing that continued business is valued by
- I was sent a form letter by the claims department, denying my request - the next day, I received the warranty renewal invoice for next year - it goes without saying that I won't renew: home warranties are a sad excuse of a product, and will not get you the service and attention of the vendors they employ

7 components of a good home warranty

Home warranty companies are the number one most complained about category on Angie’s List. If you decide to purchase a warranty, look for the components of a good home warranty before signing the contract.

Home warranties

Year after year home warranty companies have topped the Angie's List most complained about category list, with nearly half of member reports in this category rating these companies unfavorably. The key behind this appears to be an expectations gap between the companies and their clients regarding what is covered and whether service calls on covered items are entirely free.

A home warranty, or home service contract, provides service, repair or replacement on a home’s major systems and appliances for a usual term of one year. They've also topped our list of most-complained about categories for three years running.

First, call your insurance company and tell them you do not want any proceeds paid to the contractor under your policy as you are not going with them.  This way they can not collect money on your behalf.  Insurance will typically have you sign a form for release of funds anyway but this is a good extra step to make sure your signature isn't forged.  Second, call the contractor and tell them you will not be needing their services afterall.  Did your husband pay a deposit?  If so it may be non-refundable.  Then follow up with a certified letter.

An email as well doesn't hurt but some states don't yet recognize email as a form of communication for legally binding documentation.  This may have changed and I'm sure more states do recognize them as I haven't followed that topic elsewhere as much as I used to.  The contractor's office should be local.  A sure fire way to ensure they got the message is to deliver the letter to the office of the contractor and have someone at the office sign a duplicate stating it has been recieved and read.  There's no arguing whether they received it or not by doing that.

Hopefully you've learned your lesson about high pressure sales techniques and storm chasers looking for a quick buck.  Some people find out a much harder way.  While these guys may be legitimate you should always do your homework on a contractor before signing the contract.  Unless you have water running out of the house and the work has to be done on the spot it's not so much of an emergency that it can't wait until the next day.
